Genesis 37:1And Jacob dwelt in the land of Chanaan wherein his father sojourned.And Jacob dwelleth in the land of his father`s sojournings in the land of Canaan.And Jacob dwelt in the land where his father sojourned in the land of Canaan.
Genesis 37:2And these are his generations: Joseph, when he was sixteen years old, was feeding the dock with his brethren, being but a boy: and he was with the sons of and of Zelpha his father's wives : and he accused his brethren to his father of a most wicked crime.These [are] births of Jacob: Joseph, a son of seventeen years, hath been enjoying himself with his brethren among the flock, (and he [is] a youth,) with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father`s wives, and Joseph bringeth in an account of their evil unto their father.These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, fed the flock with his brethren; and he was doing service with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives. And Joseph brought to his father an evil report of them.
Genesis 37:3Now Israel loved Joseph above all his sons, because he had him in his old age: and he made him a coat of divers colours.And Israel hath loved Joseph more than any of his sons, for he [is] a son of his old age, and hath made for him a long coat;And Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was son of his old age; and he made him a vest of many colours.
Genesis 37:4And his brethren seeing that he was loved by his father, more than all his sons, hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.and his brethren see that their father hath loved him more than any of his brethren, and they hate him, and have not been able to speak [to] him peaceably.And his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, and they hated him, and could not greet him with friendliness.
Genesis 37:5Now it fell out also that he told his brethren a dream, that he had dreamed: which occasioned them to hate him the more.And Joseph dreameth a dream, and declareth to his brethren, and they add still more to hate him.And Joseph dreamed a dream, and told [it] to his brethren, and they hated him yet the more.
Genesis 37:6And he said to them: Hear my dream which I dreamed.And he saith unto them, `Hear ye, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:And he said to them, Hear, I pray you, this dream, which I have dreamt:
Genesis 37:7I thought we were binding sheaves in the field: and my sheaf arose as it were, end stood, and your sheaves standing about, bowed down before my sheaf.that, lo, we are binding bundles in the midst of the field, and lo, my bundle hath arisen, and hath also stood up, and lo, your bundles are round about, and bow themselves to my bundle.`Behold, we were binding sheaves in the fields, and lo, my sheaf rose up, and remained standing; and behold, your sheaves came round about and bowed down to my sheaf.
Genesis 37:8His brethren answered : Shalt thou be our king? or shall we be subject to thy dominion? Therefore this matter of his dreams and words ministered nourishment to their envy and hatred.And his brethren say to him, `Dost thou certainly reign over us? dost thou certainly rule over us?` and they add still more to hate him, for his dreams, and for his words.And his brethren said to him, Wilt thou indeed be a king over us? wilt thou indeed rule over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams and for his words.
Genesis 37:9He dreamed also another dream, which he told his brethren, saying: I saw in a dream, as it were the sun, and the moon, and eleven stars worshipping me.And he dreameth yet another dream, and recounteth it to his brethren, and saith, `Lo, I have dreamed a dream again, and lo, the sun and the moon, and eleven stars, are bowing themselves to me.`And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it to his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamt another dream, and behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars bowed down to me.
Genesis 37:10And when he had told this to his father and brethren, his father rebuked him, and said: What meaneth this dream that thou hast dreamed? shall I and thy mother, and thy brethren worship thee upon the earth?And he recounteth unto his father, and unto his brethren; and his father pusheth against him, and saith to him, `What [is] this dream which thou hast dreamt? do we certainly come I, and thy mother, and thy brethren to bow ourselves to thee, to the earth?`And he told [it] to his father and to his brethren. And his father rebuked him, and said to him, What is this dream which thou hast dreamt? Shall we indeed come, I and thy mother and thy brethren, to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
Genesis 37:11His brethren therefore envied him: but his father considered the thing with himself.and his brethren are zealous against him, and his father hath watched the matter.And his brethren envied him; but his father kept the saying.
Genesis 37:12And when his brethren abode in Sichem feeding their father's docks,And his brethren go to feed the flock of their father in Shechem,And his brethren went to feed their father's flock at Shechem.
Genesis 37:13Israel said to him : Thy brethren feed the sheep in Sichem: come, I will send thee to them. And when he answered:and Israel saith unto Joseph, `Are not thy brethren feeding in Shechem? come, and I send thee unto them;` and he saith to him, `Here [am] I;`And Israel said to Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed [the flock] at Shechem? Come, that I may send thee to them. And he said to him, Here am I.
Genesis 37:14I am ready: he said to him: Go, and see if all things be well with thy brethren, and the cattle: and bring me word again what is doing. So being sent from the vale of Hebron, he came to Sichem:and he saith to him, `Go, I pray thee, see the peace of thy brethren, and the peace of the flock, and bring me back word;` and he sendeth him from the valley of Hebron, and he cometh to Shechem.And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see after the welfare of thy brethren, and after the welfare of the flock; and bring me word again. And he sent him out of the vale of Hebron; and he came towards Shechem.
Genesis 37:15And a man found him there wandering in the field, and asked what he sought.And a man findeth him, and lo, he is wandering in the field, and the man asketh him, saying, `What seekest thou?`And a man found him, and behold, he was wandering in the country; and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?
Genesis 37:16But he answered: I seek my brethren; tell me where they feed the docks.and he saith, `My brethren I am seeking, declare to me, I pray thee, where they are feeding?`And he said, I am seeking my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed [their flocks].
Genesis 37:17And the man said to him: They are departed from this place: for I heard them say: Let us go to Dothain. And Joseph went forward after his brethren, and found them in Dothain.And the man saith, `They have journeyed from this, for I have heard some saying, Let us go to Dothan,` and Joseph goeth after his brethren, and findeth them in Dothan.And the man said, They have removed from this; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them at Dothan.
Genesis 37:18And when they saw him afar off, be- fore he came nigh them, they thought to kill him.And they see him from afar, even before he draweth near unto them, and they conspire against him to put him to death.And when they saw him from afar, and before he came near to them, they conspired against him to put him to death.
Genesis 37:19And said one to another: Behold the dreamer cometh.And they say one unto another, `Lo, this man of the dreams cometh;And they said one to another, Behold, there comes that dreamer!
Genesis 37:20Come, let us kill him, and cast him into some old pit : and we will say : Some evil beast hath devoured him: and then it shall appear what his dreams avail him :and now, come, and we slay him, and cast him into one of the pits, and have said, An evil beast hath devoured him; and we see what his dreams are.`And now come and let us kill him, and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say, An evil beast has devoured him; and we will see what becomes of his dreams.
Genesis 37:21And Ruben hearing this, endeavoured to deliver him out of their hands, end said:And Reuben heareth, and delivereth him out of their hand, and saith, `Let us not smite the life;`And Reuben heard [it], and delivered him out of their hand, and said, Let us not take his life.
Genesis 37:22Do not take away his life, nor shed his blood: but cast him into this pit, that is in the wilderness, and keep your hands harmless: now he said this, being desirous to deliver him out of their hands and to restore him to his father.and Reuben saith unto them, `Shed no blood; cast him into this pit which [is] in the wilderness, and put not forth a hand upon him,` in order to deliver him out of their hand, to bring him back unto his father.And Reuben said to them, Shed no blood: cast him into this pit which is in the wilderness; but lay no hand upon him in order that he might deliver him out of their hand, to bring him to his father again.
Genesis 37:23And as soon as he came to his brethren, they forthwith stript him of his outside coat, that was of divers colours:And it cometh to pass, when Joseph hath come unto his brethren, that they strip Joseph of his coat, the long coat which [is] upon him,And it came to pass when Joseph came to his brethren, that they stripped Joseph of his vest, the vest of many colours, which he had on;
Genesis 37:24And cast him into an old pit, where there was no water.and take him and cast him into the pit, and the pit [is] empty, there is no water in it.and they took him and cast him into the pit; now the pit was empty there was no water in it.

Genesis 37:26And Juda said to his brethren: What will it profit us to kill our brother, and conceal his blood?And Judah saith unto his brethren, `What gain when we slay our brother, and have concealed his blood?And Judah said to his brethren, What profit is it that we kill our brother and secrete his blood?
Genesis 37:27It is better that he be sold to the Ismaelites, and that our hands be not defiled: for he is our brother and our flesh. His brethren agreed to his words.Come, and we sell him to the Ishmaelites, and our hands are not on him, for he [is] our brother our flesh;` and his brethren hearken.Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites; but let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother, our flesh. And his brethren hearkened [to him].
Genesis 37:28And when the Madianite merchants passed by, they drew him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ismaelites, for twenty pieces of silver: and they led him into Egypt.And Midianite merchantmen pass by and they draw out and bring up Joseph out of the pit, and sell Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty silverlings, and they bring Joseph into Egypt.And Midianitish men, merchants, passed by; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty silver-pieces; and they brought Joseph to Egypt.
Genesis 37:29And Ruben, returning to the pit, found not the boy:And Reuben returneth unto the pit, and lo, Joseph is not in the pit, and he rendeth his garments,And Reuben returned to the pit, and behold, Joseph [was] not in the pit; and he rent his garments,
Genesis 37:30And rending his garments he went to his brethren, and said: The boy doth not appear and whither shall I go?and he returneth unto his brethren, and saith, `The lad is not, and I whither am I going?`and returned to his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, where shall I go?
Genesis 37:31And they took his coat, and dipped it in the blood of a kid, which they had killed :And they take the coat of Joseph, and slaughter a kid of the goats, and dip the coat in the blood,And they took Joseph's vest, and slaughtered a buck of the goats, and dipped the vest in the blood;
Genesis 37:32Sending some to carry it to their father, and to say: This we have found: see whether it be thy son's coat, or not.and send the long coat, and they bring [it] in unto their father, and say, `This have we found; discern, we pray thee, whether it [is] thy son`s coat or not?`and they sent the vest of many colours and had it carried to their father, and said, This have we found: discern now whether it is thy son's vest or not.
Genesis 37:33And the father acknowledging it, said: It is my son's coat, an evil wild beast hath eaten him, a beast hath devoured Joseph.And he discerneth it, and saith, `My son`s coat! an evil beast hath devoured him; torn torn is Joseph!`And he discerned it, and said, [It is] my son's vest! an evil beast has devoured him: Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces!

Thus his father wept for him.
