Matthew 17:1And after six days Jesus taketh unto him Peter and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart:And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, and James, and John his brother, and doth bring them up to a high mount by themselves,And after six days, Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them upon a high mountain apart.
Matthew 17:2And he was transfigured before them. And his face did shine as the sun: and his garments became white as snow.and he was transfigured before them, and his face shone as the sun, and his garments did become white as the light,And he was transfigured before them: and his face shone as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
Matthew 17:3And behold there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking with him.and lo, appear to them did Moses and Elijah, talking together with him.And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking with him.
Matthew 17:4And Peter answering, said to Jesus: Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.And Peter answering said to Jesus, `Sir, it is good to us to be here; if thou wilt, we may make here three booths for thee one, and for Moses one, and one for Elijah.`Then answered Peter, and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
Matthew 17:5And as he was yet speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them. And lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him.While he is yet speaking, lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying, `This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I did delight; hear him.`While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him.
Matthew 17:6And the disciples hearing, fell upon their face, and were very much afraid.And the disciples having heard, did fall upon their face, and were exceedingly afraid,And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were in great fear.
Matthew 17:7And Jesus came and touched them: and said to them, Arise, and fear not.and Jesus having come near, touched them, and said, `Rise, be not afraid,`And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
Matthew 17:8And they lifting up their eyes saw no one but only Jesus.and having lifted up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus only.And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
Matthew 17:9And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying: Tell the vision to no man, till the Son of man be risen from the dead.And as they are coming down from the mount, Jesus charged them, saying, `Say to no one the vision, till the Son of Man out of the dead may rise.`And as they were descending the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be raised again from the dead.
Matthew 17:10And his disciples asked him, saying: Why then do the scribes say that Elias must come first?And his disciples questioned him, saying, `Why then do the scribes say that Elijah it behoveth to come first?`And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes, that Elijah must first come?
Matthew 17:11But he answering, said to them: Elias indeed shall come, and restore all things.And Jesus answering said to them, `Elijah doth indeed come first, and shall restore all things,And Jesus answered and said to them, Elijah truly will first come, and restore all things:
Matthew 17:12But I say to you, that Elias is already come, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they had a mind. So also the Son of man shall suffer from them.and I say to you Elijah did already come, and they did not know him, but did with him whatever they would, so also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them.`But I say to you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done to him whatever they pleased: likewise will also the Son of man suffer by them.
Matthew 17:13Then the disciples understood, that he had spoken to them of John the Baptist.Then understood the disciples that concerning John the Baptist he spake to them.Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them concerning John the Baptist.
Matthew 17:14And when he was come to the multitude, there came to him a man falling down on his knees before him, saying: Lord, have pity on my son, for he is a lunatic, and suffereth much: for he falleth often into the fire, and often into the water.And when they came unto the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling down to him,And when they had come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man kneeling down to him, and saying,
Matthew 17:15And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.and saying, `Sir, deal kindly with my son, for he is lunatic, and doth suffer miserably, for often he doth fall into the fire, and often into the water,Lord, have mercy on my son; for he is lunatic, and grievously distressed; for often he falleth into the fire, and often into the water.
Matthew 17:16Then Jesus answered and said: O unbelieving and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.and I brought him near to thy disciples, and they were not able to heal him.`And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
Matthew 17:17And Jesus rebuked him, and the devil went out of him, and the child was cured from that hour.And Jesus answering said, `O generation, unstedfast and perverse, till when shall I be with you? till when shall I bear you? bring him to me hither;`Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
Matthew 17:18Then came the disciples to Jesus secretly, and said: Why could not we cast him out?and Jesus rebuked him, and the demon went out of him, and the lad was healed from that hour.And Jesus rebuked the demon, and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
Matthew 17:19Jesus said to them: Because of your unbelief. For, amen I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, Remove from hence hither, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.Then the disciples having come to Jesus by himself, said, `Wherefore were we not able to cast him out?`Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
Matthew 17:20But this kind is not cast out but by prayer and fasting.And Jesus said to them, `Through your want of faith; for verily I say to you, if ye may have faith as a grain of mustard, ye shall say to this mount, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible to you,And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say to you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard-seed, ye shall say to this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.
Matthew 17:21And when they abode together in Galilee, Jesus said to them: The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:and this kind doth not go forth except in prayer and fasting.`However, this kind goeth not out, but by prayer and fasting.
Matthew 17:22And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall rise again. And they were troubled exceedingly.And while they are living in Galilee, Jesus said to them, `The Son of Man is about to be delivered up to the hands of men,And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man will be betrayed into the hands of men:
Matthew 17:23And when they were come to Capharnaum, they that recieved the didrachmas, came to Peter and said to him: Doth not your master pay the didrachmas?and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall rise,` and they were exceeding sorry.And they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised again: And they were exceedingly grieved.
Matthew 17:24He said: Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying: What is thy opinion, Simon? The kings of the earth, of whom do they receive tribute or custom? of their own children, or of strangers?And they having come to Capernaum, those receiving the didrachms came near to Peter, and said, `Your teacher doth he not pay the didrachms?` He saith, `Yes.`And when they had come to Capernaum, they that received tribute-money, came to Peter, and said, Doth not your Master pay tribute?
Matthew 17:25And he said: Of strangers. Jesus said to him: Then the children are free.And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, `What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth from whom do they receive custom or poll-tax? from their sons or from the strangers?`He saith, Yes. And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? from whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? from their own children, or from strangers?
Matthew 17:26But that we may not scandalize them, go to the sea, and cast in a hook: and that fish which shall first come up, take: and when thou hast opened its mouth, thou shalt find a stater: take that, and give it to them for me and thee.Peter saith to him, `From the strangers.` Jesus said to him, `Then are the sons free;Peter saith to him, From strangers. Jesus saith to him, Then are the children free.
