Luke 2:1And it came to pass, that in those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that the whole world should be enrolled.And it came to pass in those days, there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world be enrolledNow it happened in those days, that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.
Luke 2:2This enrolling was first made by Cyrinus, the governor of Syria.this enrollment first came to pass when Cyrenius was governor of SyriaThis was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
Luke 2:3And all went to be enrolled, every one into his own city.and all were going to be enrolled, each to his proper city,All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city.
Luke 2:4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and family of David,and Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, that is called Bethlehem, because of his being of the house and family of David,Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;
Luke 2:5To be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child.to enroll himself with Mary his betrothed wife, being with child.to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being great with child.
Luke 2:6And it came to pass, that when they were there, her days were accomplished, that she should be delivered.And it came to pass, in their being there, the days were fulfilled for her bringing forth,It happened, while they were there, that the day had come that she should give birth.
Luke 2:7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.and she brought forth her son the first-born, and wrapped him up, and laid him down in the manger, because there was not for them a place in the guest-chamber.She brought forth her firstborn son, and she wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:8And there were in the same country shepherds watching, and keeping the night watches over their flock.And there were shepherds in the same region, lodging in the field, and keeping the night-watches over their flock,There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.
Luke 2:9And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shone round about them; and they feared with a great fear.and lo, a messenger of the Lord stood over them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they feared a great fear.Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
Luke 2:10And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people:And the messenger said to them, `Fear not, for lo, I bring you good news of great joy, that shall be to all the peopleThe angel said to them, "Don't be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.
Luke 2:11For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David.because there was born to you to-day a Saviour who is Christ the Lord in the city of David,For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:12And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger.and this [is] to you the sign: Ye shall find a babe wrapped up, lying in the manger.`This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough."
Luke 2:13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying:And suddenly there came with the messenger a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying,Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Luke 2:14Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.`Glory in the highest to God, and upon earth peace, among men good will.`"Glory to God in the highest, On earth peace, good will toward men."
Luke 2:15And it came to pass, after the angels departed from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us go over to Bethlehem, and let us see this word that is come to pass, which the Lord hath shewed to us.And it came to pass, when the messengers were gone away from them to the heavens, that the men, the shepherds, said unto one another, `We may go over indeed unto Bethlehem, and see this thing that hath come to pass, that the Lord did make known to us.`It happened, when the angels went away from them into the sky, that the shepherds said one to another, "Let's go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us."
Luke 2:16And they came with haste; and they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.And they came, having hasted, and found both Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger,They came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the feeding trough.
Luke 2:17And seeing, they understood of the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child.and having seen, they made known abroad concerning the saying spoken to them concerning the child.When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child.
Luke 2:18And all that heard, wondered; and at those things that were told them by the shepherds.And all who heard, did wonder concerning the things spoken by the shepherds unto them;All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds.
Luke 2:19But Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart.and Mary was preserving all these things, pondering in her heart;But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
Luke 2:20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.and the shepherds turned back, glorifying and praising God, for all those things they heard and saw, as it was spoken unto them.The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, even as it was spoken to them.
Luke 2:21And after eight days were accomplished, that the child should be circumcised, his name was called JESUS, which was called by the angel, before he was conceived in the womb.And when eight days were fulfilled to circumcise the child, then was his name called Jesus, having been so called by the messenger before his being conceived in the womb.When eight days were fulfilled for the circumcision of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
Luke 2:22And after the days of her purification, according to the law of Moses, were accomplished, they carried him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord:And when the days of their purification were fulfilled, according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present to the Lord,When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord
Luke 2:23As it is written in the law of the Lord: Every male opening the womb shall be called holy to the Lord:as it hath been written in the Law of the Lord, `Every male opening a womb shall be called holy to the Lord,`(as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord"),
Luke 2:24And to offer a sacrifice, according as it is written in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons:and to give a sacrifice, according to that said in the Law of the Lord, `A pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons.`and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, "A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons."
Luke 2:25And behold there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was in him.And lo, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name [is] Simeon, and this man is righteous and devout, looking for the comforting of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him,Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.
Luke 2:26And he had received an answer from the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.and it hath been divinely told him by the Holy Spirit not to see death before he may see the Christ of the Lord.It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
Luke 2:27And he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when his parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,And he came in the Spirit to the temple, and in the parents bringing in the child Jesus, for their doing according to the custom of the law regarding him,He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,
Luke 2:28He also took him into his arms, and blessed God, and said:then he took him in his arms, and blessed God, and he said,then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
Luke 2:29Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord, according to thy word in peace;`Now Thou dost send away Thy servant, Lord, according to Thy word, in peace,"Now let you your servant depart, Lord, According to your word, in peace;
Luke 2:30Because my eyes have seen thy salvation,because mine eyes did see Thy salvation,For my eyes have seen your salvation,
Luke 2:31Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples:which Thou didst prepare before the face of all the peoples,Which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;
Luke 2:32A light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.a light to the uncovering of nations, and the glory of Thy people Israel.`A light for revelation to the Gentiles, The glory of your people Israel."
Luke 2:33And his father and mother were wondering at those things which were spoken concerning him.And Joseph and his mother were wondering at the things spoken concerning him,Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him,
Luke 2:34And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted;and Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, `Lo, this [one] is set for the falling and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken againstand Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, "Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.
Luke 2:35And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed.(and also thine own soul shall a sword pass through) that the reasonings of many hearts may be revealed.`Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed."
Luke 2:36And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser; she was far advanced in years, and had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity.And there was Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, she was much advanced in days, having lived with an husband seven years from her virginity,There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
Luke 2:37And she was a widow until fourscore and four years; who departed not from the temple, by fastings and prayers serving night and day.and she [is] a widow of about eighty-four years, who did depart not from the temple, with fasts and supplications serving, night and day,and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn't depart from the temple, worshipping with fastings and petitions night and day.
Luke 2:38Now she, at the same hour, coming in, confessed to the Lord; and spoke of him to all that looked for the redemption of Israel.and she, at that hour, having come in, was confessing, likewise, to the Lord, and was speaking concerning him, to all those looking for redemption in Jerusalem.Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
Luke 2:39And after they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their city Nazareth.And when they finished all things, according to the Law of the Lord, they turned back to Galilee, to their city Nazareth;When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.
Luke 2:40And the child grew, and waxed strong, full of wisdom; and the grace of God was in him.and the child grew and was strengthened in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.The child grew, and grew strong in spirit, filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.
Luke 2:41And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the solemn day of the pasch,And his parents were going yearly to Jerusalem, at the feast of the passover,His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.
Luke 2:42And when he was twelve years old, they going up into Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast,and when he became twelve years old, they having gone up to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast,When he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast,
Luke 2:43And having fulfilled the days, when they returned, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not.and having finished the days, in their returning the child Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and Joseph and his mother did not know,and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy, Jesus, stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn't know it,
Luke 2:44And thinking that he was in the company, they came a day's journey, and sought him among their kinsfolks and acquaintance.and, having supposed him to be in the company, they went a day`s journey, and were seeking him among the kindred and among the acquaintances,but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day's journey, and they looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances.
Luke 2:45And not finding him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking him.and not having found him, they turned back to Jerusalem seeking him.When they didn't find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him.
Luke 2:46And it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing them, and asking them questions.And it came to pass, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them and questioning them,It happened, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them, and asking them questions.
Luke 2:47And all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers.and all those hearing him were astonished at his understanding and answers.All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
Luke 2:48And seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.And, having seen him, they were amazed, and his mother said unto him, `Child, why didst thou thus to us? lo, thy father and I, sorrowing, were seeking thee.`When they saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I were anxiously looking for you."
Luke 2:49And he said to them: How is it that you sought me? did you not know, that I must be about my father's business?And he said unto them, `Why [is it] that ye were seeking me? did ye not know that in the things of my Father it behoveth me to be?`He said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Didn't you know that I must be in my Father's house?"
Luke 2:50And they understood not the word that he spoke unto them.and they did not understand the saying that he spake to them,They didn't understand the saying which he spoke to them.
Luke 2:51And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart.and he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and he was subject to them, and his mother was keeping all these sayings in her heart,He went down with them, and came to Nazareth. Luke 2:52And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and age, and grace with God and men.and Jesus was advancing in wisdom, and in stature, and in favour with God and men.Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
