Matthew 15:1 | Then came to him from Jerusalem scribes and Pharisees, saying: | Then come unto Jesus do they from Jerusalem scribes and Pharisees saying, | Then Pharisees and scribes come to Jesus from Jerusalem, saying, |
Matthew 15:2 | Why do thy disciples trangress the tradition of the ancients? For they wash not their hands when they eat bread. | `Wherefore do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they do not wash their hands when they may eat bread.` | "Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don't wash their hands when they eat bread." |
Matthew 15:3 | But he answering, said to them: Why do you also transgress the commandment of God for your tradition? For God said: | And he answering said to them, `Wherefore also do ye transgress the command of God because of your tradition? | He answered them, "Why do you also disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition? |
Matthew 15:4 | Honour thy father and mother: And: He that shall curse father or mother, let him die the death. | for God did command, saying, Honour thy father and mother; and, He who is speaking evil of father or mother let him die the death; | For God commanded, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.' |
Matthew 15:5 | But you say: Whosoever shall say to father or mother, The gift whatsoever proceedeth from me, shall profit thee. | but ye say, Whoever may say to father or mother, An offering [is] whatever thou mayest be profited by me; | But you say, 'Whoever will tell his father or his mother, "Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God," |
Matthew 15:6 | And he shall not honour his father or his mother: and you have made void the commandment of God for your tradition. | and he may not honour his father or his mother, and ye did set aside the command of God because of your tradition. | he will not honor his father or mother.' Matthew 15:8 | This people honoureth me with their lips: but their heart is far from me. | This people doth draw nigh to Me with their mouth, and with the lips it doth honour Me, but their heart is far off from Me; | 'These people draw near to me with their mouth, And honor me with their lips; But their heart is far from me. |
Matthew 15:9 | And in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines and commandments of men. | and in vain do they worship Me, teaching teachings commands of men.` | But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as doctrine rules made by men.'" |
Matthew 15:10 | And having called together the multitudes unto him, he said to them: Hear ye and understand. | And having called near the multitude, he said to them, `Hear and understand: | He called the multitude to himself, and said to them, "Hear, and understand. |
Matthew 15:11 | Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man: but what cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. | not that which is coming into the mouth doth defile the man, but that which is coming forth from the mouth, this defileth the man.` | That which enters into the mouth doesn't defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man." |
Matthew 15:12 | Then came his disciples, and said to him: Dost thou know that the Pharisees, when they heard this word, were scandalized? | Then his disciples having come near, said to him, `Hast thou known that the Pharisees, having heard the word, were stumbled?` | Then the disciples came, and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended, when they heard this saying?" |
Matthew 15:13 | But he answering them, said: Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. | And he answering said, `Every plant that my heavenly Father did not plant shall be rooted up; | But he answered, "Every plant which my heavenly Father didn't plant will be uprooted. |
Matthew 15:14 | Let them alone: they are blind, and leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the pit. | let them alone, guides they are blind of blind; and if blind may guide blind, both into a ditch shall fall.` | Let them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit." |
Matthew 15:15 | And Peter answering, said to him: Expound to us this parable. | And Peter answering said to him, `Explain to us this simile.` | Peter answered him, "Explain the parable to us." |
Matthew 15:16 | But he said: Are you also yet without understanding? | And Jesus said, `Are ye also yet without understanding? | So Jesus said, "Do you also still not understand? |
Matthew 15:17 | Do you not understand, that whatsoever entereth into the mouth, goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the privy? | do ye not understand that all that is going into the mouth doth pass into the belly, and into the drain is cast forth? | Don't you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and then out of the body? |
Matthew 15:18 | But the things which proceed out of the mouth, come forth from the heart, and those things defile a man. | but the things coming forth from the mouth from the heart do come forth, and these defile the man; | But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart, and they defile the man. |
Matthew 15:19 | For from the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimonies, blasphemies. | for out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, whoredoms, thefts, false witnessings, evil speakings: | For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies. |
Matthew 15:20 | These are the things that defile a man. But to eat with unwashed hands doth not defile a man. | these are the things defiling the man; but to eat with unwashen hands doth not defile the man.` | These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn't defile the man." |
Matthew 15:21 | And Jesus went from thence, and retired into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. | And Jesus having come forth thence, withdrew to the parts of Tyre and Sidon, | Jesus went out from there, and withdrew into the parts of Tyre and Sidon. |
Matthew 15:22 | And behold a woman of Canaan who came out of those coasts, crying out, said to him: Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David: my daughter is grieviously troubled by the devil. | and lo, a woman, a Canaanitess, from those borders having come forth, did call to him, saying, `Deal kindly with me, Sir Son of David; my daughter is miserably demonized.` | Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David. My daughter is grievously vexed with a demon." |
Matthew 15:23 | Who answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying: Send her away, for she crieth after us: | And he did not answer her a word; and his disciples having come to him, were asking him, saying `Let her away, because she crieth after us;` | But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, "Send her away; for she cries after us." |
Matthew 15:24 | And he answering, said: I was not sent but to the sheep that are lost of the house of Israel. | and he answering said, `I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.` | But he answered, "I wasn't sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel." |
Matthew 15:25 | But she came and adored him, saying: Lord, help me. | And having come, she was bowing to him, saying, `Sir, help me;` | But she came and worshipped him, saying, "Lord, help me." |
Matthew 15:26 | Who answering, said: It is not good to take the bread of the children, and to cast it to the dogs. | and he answering said, `It is not good to take the children`s bread, and to cast to the little dogs.` | But he answered, "It is not appropriate to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." |
Matthew 15:27 | But she said: Yea, Lord; for the whelps also eat of the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters. | And she said, `Yes, sir, for even the little dogs do eat of the crumbs that are falling from their lords` table;` | But she said, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table." |
Matthew 15:28 | Then Jesus answering, said to her: O woman, great is thy faith: be it done to thee as thou wilt: and her daughter was cured from that hour. | then answering, Jesus said to her, `O woman, great [is] thy faith, let it be to thee as thou wilt;` and her daughter was healed from that hour. | Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that hour. |
Matthew 15:29 | And when Jesus had passed away from thence, he came nigh the sea of Galilee.
