James 4:1 | From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? | Whence [come] wars and whence [come] fightings among you? [come they] not hence, [even] of your pleasures that war in your members? | Whence [come] wars and whence fightings among you? [Is it] not thence, from your pleasures, which war in your members? |
James 4:2 | Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. | Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and covet, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war; ye have not, because ye ask not. | Ye lust and have not: ye kill and are full of envy, and cannot obtain; ye fight and war; ye have not because ye ask not. |
James 4:3 | Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. | Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend [it] in your pleasures. | Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask evilly, that ye may consume [it] in your pleasures. |
James 4:4 | Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. | Ye adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world maketh himself an enemy of God. | Adulteresses, know ye not that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore is minded to be [the] friend of the world is constituted enemy of God. |
James 4:5 | Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? | Or think ye that the scripture speaketh in vain? Doth the spirit which he made to dwell in us long unto envying? | Think ye that the scripture speaks in vain? Does the Spirit which has taken his abode in us desire enviously? |
James 4:6 | But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. | But he giveth more grace. Wherefore [the scripture] saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. | But he gives more grace. Wherefore he says, God sets himself against [the] proud, but gives grace to [the] lowly. |
James 4:7 | Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. | Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you. | Subject yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. |
James 4:8 | Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. | Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded. | Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse [your] hands, sinners, and purify [your] hearts, ye double-minded. |
James 4:9 | Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. | Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. | Be wretched, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and [your] joy to heaviness. |
James 4:10 | Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. | Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall exalt you. | Humble yourselves before [the] Lord, and he shall exalt you. |
James 4:11 | Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. | Speak not one against another, brethren. He that speaketh against a brother, or judgeth his brother, speaketh against the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judgest the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. | Speak not against one another, brethren. He that speaks against [his] brother, or judges his brother, speaks against [the] law and judges [the] law. But if thou judgest [the] law, thou art not doer of [the] law, but judge. |
James 4:12 | There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? | One [only] is the lawgiver and judge, [even] he who is able to save and to destroy: but who art thou that judgest thy neighbor? | One is the lawgiver and judge, who is able to save and to destroy: but who art *thou* who judgest thy neighbour? |
James 4:13 | Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: | Come now, ye that say, To-day or to-morrow we will go into this city, and spend a year there, and trade, and get gain: | Go to now, ye who say, To-day or to-morrow will we go into such a city and spend a year there, and traffic and make gain, |
James 4:14 | Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. | whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. What is your life? For ye are a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. | ye who do not know what will be on the morrow, ([for] what [is] your life? It is even a vapour, appearing for a little while, and then disappearing,) |
James 4:15 | For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. | For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that. | instead of your saying, If the Lord should [so] will and we should live, we will also do this or that. |
James 4:16 | But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. | But now ye glory in your vauntings: all such glorying is evil. | But now ye glory in your vauntings: all such glorying is evil. |
James 4:17 | Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. | To him therefore that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. | To him therefore who knows how to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin. |
