Matthew 22:1 | And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, | And Jesus, talking to them again in stories, said: | And Jesus answering, again spake to them in similes, saying, |
Matthew 22:2 | The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, | The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who made a feast when his son was married, | `The reign of the heavens was likened to a man, a king, who made marriage-feasts for his son, |
Matthew 22:3 | And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. | And sent out his servants to get in the guests to the feast: and they would not come. | and he sent forth his servants to call those having been called to the marriage-feasts, and they were not willing to come. |
Matthew 22:4 | Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. | Again he sent out other servants, with orders to say to the guests, See, I have made ready my feast: my oxen and my fat beasts have been put to death, and all things are ready: come to the feast. | `Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Say to those who have been called: Lo, my dinner I prepared, my oxen and the fatlings have been killed, and all things [are] ready, come ye to the marriage-feasts; |
Matthew 22:5 | But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: | But they gave no attention, and went about their business, one to his farm, another to his trade: | and they, having disregarded [it], went away, the one to his own field, and the other to his merchandise; |
Matthew 22:6 | And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. | And the rest put violent hands on his servants, and did evil to them, and put them to death. | and the rest, having laid hold on his servants, did insult and slay [them]. |
Matthew 22:7 | But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. | But the king was angry; and he sent his armies, and those who had put his servants to death he gave to destruction, burning down their town with fire. | `And the king having heard, was wroth, and having sent forth his soldiers, he destroyed those murderers, and their city he set on fire; |
Matthew 22:8 | Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. | Then he said to his servants, The feast is ready but the guests were not good enough. | then saith he to his servants, The marriage-feast indeed is ready, and those called were not worthy, |
Matthew 22:9 | Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. | Go then to the cross-roads, and get all those whom you see to come to the bride-feast. | be going, then, on to the cross-ways, and as many as ye may find, call ye to the marriage-feasts. |
Matthew 22:10 | So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. | And those servants went out into the streets, and got together all those whom they came across, bad and good: and the feast was full of guests. | `And those servants, having gone forth to the ways, did gather all, as many as they found, both bad and good, and the marriage-feast apartment was filled with those reclining. |
Matthew 22:11 | And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: | But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a guest's robe; | `And the king having come in to view those reclining, saw there a man not clothed with clothing of the marriage-feast, |
Matthew 22:12 | And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. | And he says to him, Friend, how came you in here not having a guest's robe? And he had nothing to say. | and he saith to him, Comrade, how didst thou come in hither, not having clothing of the marriage-feast? and he was speechless. |
Matthew 22:13 | Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. | Then the king said to the servants, Put cords round his hands and feet and put him out into the dark; there will be weeping and cries of sorrow. | `Then said the king to the ministrants, Having bound his feet and hands, take him up and cast forth to the outer darkness, there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth; |
Matthew 22:14 | For many are called, but few are chosen. | For out of all to whom the good news has come, only a small number will get salvation. | for many are called, and few chosen.` |
Matthew 22:15 | Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. | Then the Pharisees went and had a meeting to see how they might make use of his words to take him. | Then the Pharisees having gone, took counsel how they might ensnare him in words, |
Matthew 22:16 | And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. | And they sent to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Master, we see that you are true, and that you are teaching the true way of God, and have no fear of anyone, because you have no respect for a man's position. | and they send to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, `Teacher, we have known that thou art true, and the way of God in truth thou dost teach, and thou art not caring for any one, for thou dost not look to the face of men; |
Matthew 22:17 | Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? | Give us, then, your opinion of this: Is it right to give tax to Caesar, or not? | tell us, therefore, what dost thou think? is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?` |
Matthew 22:18 | But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? | But Jesus saw their trick and said, Oh false ones, why are you attempting to put me in the wrong? | And Jesus having known their wickedness, said, `Why me do ye tempt, hypocrites? |
Matthew 22:19 | Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. | Let me see the tax money. And they gave him a penny. | show me the tribute-coin?` and they brought to him a denary; |
Matthew 22:20 | And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? | And he said to them, Whose is this image and name on it? | and he saith to them, `Whose [is] this image and the inscription?` |
Matthew 22:21 | They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. | They say to him, Caesar's. Then he said to them, Give to Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to God the things which are God's. | they say to him, `Caesar`s;` then saith he to them, `Render therefore the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;` |
Matthew 22:22 | When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way. | And hearing it, they were full of wonder, and went away from him. | and having heard they wondered, and having left him they went away. |
Matthew 22:23 | The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, | On the same day there came to him the Sadducees, who say that there is no coming back from the dead: and they put a question to him, saying, | In that day there came near to him Sadducees, who are saying there is not a rising again, and they questioned him, saying, |
Matthew 22:24 | Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. | Master, Moses said, If a man, at the time of his death, has no children, let his brother take his wife, and get a family for his brother; | `Teacher, Moses said, If any one may die not having children, his brother shall marry his wife, and shall raise up seed to his brother. |
Matthew 22:25 | Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: | Now there were among us seven brothers; and the first was married and at his death, having no seed, gave his wife to his brother; | `And there were with us seven brothers, and the first having married did die, and not having seed, he left his wife to his brother; |
Matthew 22:26 | Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. | In the same way the second and the third, up to the seventh. | in like manner also the second, and the third, unto the seventh, |
Matthew 22:27 | And last of all the woman died also. | And last of all the woman came to her end. | and last of all died also the woman; |
Matthew 22:28 | Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. | When they come back from the dead, then, whose wife will she be of the seven? because they all had her. | therefore in the rising again, of which of the seven shall she be wife for all had her?` |
Matthew 22:29 | Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. | But Jesus said to them in answer, You are in error, not having knowledge of the Writings, or of the power of God. | And Jesus answering said to them, `Ye go astray, not knowing the Writings, nor the power of God; |
Matthew 22:30 | For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. | For when they come back from the dead there are no husbands and wives, but they are as the angels in heaven. | for in the rising again they do not marry, nor are they given in marriage, but are as messengers of God in heaven. |
Matthew 22:31 | But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, | But about the dead coming back to life, have you no knowledge of what was said to you by God in the Writings: | `And concerning the rising again of the dead, did ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, |
Matthew 22:32 | I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. | I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead but of the living. | I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not a God of dead men, but of living.` |
Matthew 22:33 | And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine. | And the people hearing it were surprised at his teaching. | And having heard, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching; |
Matthew 22:34 | But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. | But the Pharisees, hearing how the mouths of the Sadducees had been stopped, came together; | and the Pharisees, having heard that he did silence the Sadducees, were gathered together unto him; |
Matthew 22:35 | Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, | And one of them, a teacher of the law, put a question to him, testing him, and saying, | and one of them, a lawyer, did question, tempting him, and saying, |
Matthew 22:36 | Master, which is the great commandment in the law? | Master, which is the chief rule in the law? | `Teacher, which [is] the great command in the Law?` |
Matthew 22:37 | Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. | And he said to him, Have love for the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. | And Jesus said to him, `Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thine understanding |
Matthew 22:38 | This is the first and great commandment. | This is the first and greatest rule. | this is a first and great command; |
Matthew 22:39 | And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. | And a second like it is this, Have love for your neighbour as for yourself. | and the second [is] like to it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; |

Matthew 22:44 | The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? | The Lord said to my Lord, Be seated at my right hand, till I put under your feet all those who are against you? | The Lord said to my lord, Sit at my right hand, till I may make thine enemies thy footstool? |
Matthew 22:45 | If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? | If David then gives him the name of Lord, how is he his son? | If then David doth call him lord, how is he his son?` |
Matthew 22:46 | And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions. | And no one was able to give him an answer, and so great was their fear of him, that from that day no one put any more questions to him. | And no one was able to answer him a word, nor durst any from that day question him any more. |
