Philemon 1:1Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer, Paul, prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timotheus the brother, to Philemon the beloved and our fellow-workman,Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our dear helper in the faith,
Philemon 1:2And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house: and to the sister Apphia and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the assembly which [is] in thine house.And to Apphia, our sister, and to Archippus, our brother in God's army, and to the church in your house:
Philemon 1:3Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and [the] Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:4I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, I thank my God, always making mention of thee at my prayers,I give praise to God at all times and make prayer for you,
Philemon 1:5Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; hearing of thy love and the faith which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints,Hearing of the love and the faith which you have to the Lord Jesus and to all the saints;
Philemon 1:6That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. in such sort that thy participation in the faith should become operative in the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in us towards Christ [Jesus].That the faith which you have in common with them may be working with power, in the knowledge of every good thing in you, for Christ.
Philemon 1:7For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother. For we have great thankfulness and encouragement through thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother.
Philemon 1:8Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient, Wherefore having much boldness in Christ to enjoin thee what is fitting,And so, though I might, in the name of Christ, give you orders to do what is right,
Philemon 1:9Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. for love's sake I rather exhort, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also prisoner of Jesus Christ.Still, because of love, in place of an order, I make a request to you, I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner of Christ Jesus:
Philemon 1:10I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: I exhort thee for *my* child, whom I have begotten in [my] bonds, Onesimus,My request is for my child Onesimus, the child of my chains,
Philemon 1:11Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me: once unserviceable to thee, but now serviceable to thee and to me:Who in the past was of no profit to you, but now is of profit to you and to me:
Philemon 1:12Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels: whom I have sent back to thee: [but do *thou* receive] him, that is, *my* bowels:Whom I have sent back to you, him who is my very heart:
Philemon 1:13Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel: whom *I* was desirous of keeping with myself, that for thee he might minister to me in the bonds of the glad tidings;Though my desire was to keep him with me, to be my servant in the chains of the good news, in your place:
Philemon 1:14But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly. but I have wished to do nothing without thy mind, that thy good might not be as of necessity but of willingness:But without your approval I would do nothing; so that your good works might not be forced, but done freely from your heart.
Philemon 1:15For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever; for perhaps for this reason he has been separated [from thee] for a time, that thou mightest possess him fully for ever;For it is possible that for this reason he was parted from you for a time, so that you might have him for ever;
Philemon 1:16Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord? not any longer as a bondman, but above a bondman, a beloved brother, specially to me, and how much rather to thee, both in [the] flesh and in [the] Lord?No longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother, very dear to me specially, but much more to you, in the flesh as well as in the Lord.
Philemon 1:17If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself. If therefore thou holdest me to be a partner [with thee], receive him as me;If then you take me to be your friend and brother, take him in as myself.
Philemon 1:18If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account; but if he have wronged thee anything or owe anything [to thee], put this to my account.If he has done you any wrong or is in debt to you for anything, put it to my account.
Philemon 1:19I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides. *I* Paul have written [it] with mine own hand; *I* will repay [it]: that I say not to thee that thou owest even thine own self also to me.I, Paul, writing this myself, say, I will make payment to you: and I do not say to you that you are in debt to me even for your life.
Philemon 1:20Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord. Yea, brother, *I* would have profit of *thee* in [the] Lord: refresh my bowels in Christ.So brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: give new life to my heart in Christ.
Philemon 1:21Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say. Being confident of thine obedience, I have written to thee, knowing that thou wilt do even more than I say.Being certain that you will do my desire, I am writing to you, in the knowledge that you will do even more than I say.
Philemon 1:22But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you. But withal prepare me also a lodging; for I hope that I shall be granted to you through your prayers.And make a room ready for me; for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be given to you.
Philemon 1:23There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus; Epaphras salutes thee, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;Epaphras, my brother-prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his love;
Philemon 1:24Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers. Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workmen.And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my brother-workers.
Philemon 1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with your spirit.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. So be it.
