Acts 24:1And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul. And after five days came down the high priest Ananias, with the elders, and a certain orator called Tertullus, and laid their informations against Paul before the governor.And after five days the high priest Ananias came down, with some of the ancients, and one Tertullus an orator, who went to the governor against Paul.
Acts 24:2And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence, And he having been called, Tertullus began to accuse, saying, Seeing we enjoy great peace through thee, and that excellent measures are executed for this nation by thy forethought,And Paul being called for, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying: Whereas through thee we live in much peace, and many things are rectified by thy providence,
Acts 24:3We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness. we receive [it] always and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.We accept it always and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thanksgiving.
Acts 24:4Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words. But that I may not too much intrude on thy time, I beseech thee to hear us briefly in thy kindness.But that I be no further tedious to thee, I desire thee of thy clemency to hear us in few words.
Acts 24:5For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes: For finding this man a pest, and moving sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a leader of the sect of the Nazaraeans;We have found this to be a pestilent man, and raising seditions among all the Jews throughout the world, and author of the sedition of the sect of the Nazarenes.
Acts 24:6Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law. who also attempted to profane the temple; whom we also had seized, [and would have judged according to our law;Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom, we having apprehended, would also have judged according to our law.
Acts 24:7But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands, but Lysias, the chiliarch, coming up, took [him] away with great force out of our hands,But Lysias the tribune coming upon us, with great violence took him away out of our hands;
Acts 24:8Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him. having commanded his accusers to come to thee;] of whom thou canst thyself, in examining [him], know the certainty of all these things of which we accuse him.Commanding his accusers to come to thee: of whom thou mayest thyself, by examination, have knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
Acts 24:9And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so. And the Jews also joined in pressing the matter against [Paul], saying that these things were so.And the Jews also added, and said that these things were so.
Acts 24:10Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself: But Paul, the governor having beckoned to him to speak, answered, Knowing that for many years thou hast been judge to this nation, I answer readily as to the things which concern myself.Then Paul answered, (the governor making a sign to him to speak:) Knowing that for many years thou hast been judge over this nation, I will with good courage answer for myself.
Acts 24:11Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship. As thou mayest know that there are not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem,For thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days, since I went up to adore in Jerusalem:
Acts 24:12And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city: and neither in the temple did they find me discoursing to any one, or making any tumultuous gathering together of the crowd, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city;And neither in the temple did they find me disputing with any man, or causing any concourse of the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
Acts 24:13Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me. neither can they make good the things of which they now accuse me.Neither can they prove unto thee the things whereof they now accuse me.
Acts 24:14But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: But this I avow to thee, that in the way which they call sect, so I serve my fathers' God, believing all things which are written throughout the law, and in the prophets;But this I confess to thee, that according to the way, which they call a heresy, so do I serve the Father and my God, believing all things which are written in the law and the prophets:
Acts 24:15And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust. having hope towards God, which they themselves also receive, that there is to be a resurrection both of just and unjust.Having hope in God, which these also themselves look for, that there shall be a resurrection of the just and unjust.
Acts 24:16And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men. For this cause I also exercise [myself] to have in everything a conscience without offence towards God and men.And herein do I endeavour to have always a conscience without offence toward God, and towards men.
Acts 24:17Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings. And after a lapse of many years I arrived, bringing alms to my nation, and offerings.Now after many years, I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings, and vows.
Acts 24:18Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult. Whereupon they found me purified in the temple, with neither crowd nor tumult. But it was certain Jews from Asia,In which I was found purified in the temple: neither with multitude, nor with tumult.
Acts 24:19Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me. who ought to appear before thee and accuse, if they have anything against me;But certain Jews of Asia, who ought to be present before thee, and to accuse, if they had any thing against me:
Acts 24:20Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council, or let these themselves say what wrong they found in me when I stood before the council,Or let these men themselves say, if they found in me any iniquity, when standing before the council,
Acts 24:21Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day. [other] than concerning this one voice which I cried standing amongst them: I am judged this day by you touching [the] resurrection of [the] dead.Except it be for this one voice only that I cried, standing among them, Concerning the resurrection of the dead am I judged this day by you.
Acts 24:22And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter. And Felix, knowing accurately the things concerning the way, adjourned them, saying, When Lysias the chiliarch is come down I will determine your affair;And Felix put them off, having most certain knowledge of this way, saying: When Lysias the tribune shall come down, I will hear you.
Acts 24:23And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him. ordering the centurion to keep him, and that he should have freedom, and to hinder none of his friends to minister to him.And he commanded a centurion to keep him, and that he should be easy, and that he should not prohibit any of his friends to minister unto him.
Acts 24:24And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. And after certain days, Felix having arrived with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jewess, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.And after some days, Felix, coming with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jew, sent for Paul, and heard of him the faith, that is in Christ Jesus.
Acts 24:25And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee. And as he reasoned concerning righteousness, and temperance, and the judgment about to come, Felix, being filled with fear, answered, Go for the present, and when I get an opportunity I will send for thee;And as he treated of justice, and chastity, and of the judgment to come, Felix being terrified, answered: For this time, go thy way: but when I have a convenient time, I will send for thee.
Acts 24:26He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him. hoping at the same time that money would be given him by Paul: wherefore also he sent for him the oftener and communed with him.Hoping also withal, that money should be given him by Paul; for which cause also oftentimes sending for him, he spoke with him.
Acts 24:27But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound. But when two years were completed, Felix was relieved by Porcius Festus as his successor; and Felix, desirous to oblige the Jews, to acquire their favour, left Paul bound.But when two years were ended, Felix had for successor Portius Festus. And Felix being willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
