Matthew 18:1At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? In that hour the disciples came to Jesus saying, Who then is greatest in the kingdom of the heavens?Just then the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who ranks higher than others in the Kingdom of the Heavens?"
Matthew 18:2And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And Jesus having called a little child to [him], set it in their midst,So He called a young child to Him, and, bidding him stand in the midst of them,
Matthew 18:3And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. and said, Verily I say to you, Unless ye are converted and become as little children, ye will not at all enter into the kingdom of the heavens.said, "In solemn truth I tell you that unless you turn and become like little children, you will in no case be admitted into the Kingdom of the Heavens.
Matthew 18:4Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, *he* is the greatest in the kingdom of the heavens;Whoever therefore shall humble himself as this young child, he it is who is superior to others in the Kingdom of the Heavens.
Matthew 18:5And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. and whosoever shall receive one such little child in my name, receives me.And whoever for my sake receives one young child such as this, receives me.
Matthew 18:6But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. But whosoever shall offend one of these little ones who believe in me, it were profitable for him that a great millstone had been hanged upon his neck and he be sunk in the depths of the sea.But whoever shall occasion the fall of one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for him to have a millstone hung round his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Matthew 18:7Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! Woe to the world because of offences! For it must needs be that offences come; yet woe to that man by whom the offence comes!"Alas for the world because of causes of falling! They cannot but come, but alas for each man through whom they come!
Matthew 18:8Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. And if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut it off and cast [it] from thee; it is good for thee to enter into life lame or maimed, [rather] than having two hands or two feet to be cast into eternal fire.If your hand or your foot is causing you to fall into sin, cut it off and away with it. It is better for you to enter into Life crippled in hand or foot than to remain in possession of two sound hands or feet but be thrown into the fire of the Ages.
Matthew 18:9And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out and cast [it] from thee; it is good for thee to enter into life one-eyed, [rather] than having two eyes to be cast into the hell of fire. And if your eye is causing you to fall into sin, tear it out and away with it; it is better for you to enter into Life with only one eye, than to remain in possession of two eyes but be thrown into the Gehenna of fire.
Matthew 18:10Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. See that ye do not despise one of these little ones; for I say unto you that their angels in [the] heavens continually behold the face of my Father who is in [the] heavens."Beware of ever despising one of these little ones, for I tell you that in Heaven their angels have continual access to my Father who is in Heaven.
Matthew 18:11For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. For the Son of man has come to save that which was lost.[]
Matthew 18:12How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? What think ye? If a certain man should have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, does he not, leaving the ninety and nine on the mountains, go and seek the one that has gone astray? What do you yourselves think? Suppose a man gets a hundred sheep and one of them strays away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go and look for the one that is straying?
Matthew 18:13And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. And if it should come to pass that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoices more because of it than because of the ninety and nine not gone astray. And if he succeeds in finding it, in solemn truth I tell you that he rejoices over it more than he does over the ninety-nine that have not gone astray.
Matthew 18:14Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. So it is not the will of your Father who is in [the] heavens that one of these little ones should perish.Just so it is not the will of your Father in Heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.
Matthew 18:15Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if thy brother sin against thee, go, reprove him between thee and him alone. If he hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother."If your brother acts wrongly towards you, go and point out his fault to him when only you and he are there. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
Matthew 18:16But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. But if he do not hear [thee], take with thee one or two besides, that every matter may stand upon the word of two witnesses or of three. But if he will not listen to you, go again, and ask one or two to go with you, that every word spoken may be attested by two or three witnesses.
Matthew 18:17And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. But if he will not listen to them, tell it to the assembly; and if also he will not listen to the assembly, let him be to thee as one of the nations and a tax-gatherer.If he refuses to hear them, appeal to the Church; and if he refuses to hear even the Church, regard him just as you regard a Gentile or a tax-gatherer.
Matthew 18:18Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Verily I say to you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on the earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever ye shall loose on the earth shall be loosed in heaven.I solemnly tell you that whatever you as a Church bind on earth will in Heaven be held as bound, and whatever you loose on earth will in Heaven be held to be loosed.
Matthew 18:19Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. Again I say to you, that if two of you shall agree on the earth concerning any matter, whatsoever it may be that they shall ask, it shall come to them from my Father who is in [the] heavens.I also solemnly tell you that if two of you here on earth agree together concerning anything whatever that they shall ask, the boon will come to them from my Father who is in Heaven.
Matthew 18:20For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. For where two or three are gathered together unto my name, there am I in the midst of them. For where there are two or three assembled in my name, there am I in the midst of them."
Matthew 18:21Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Then Peter came to him and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? until seven times? At this point Peter came to Him with the question, "Master, how often shall my brother act wrongly towards me and I forgive him? seven times?"
Matthew 18:22Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Jesus says to him, I say not to thee until seven times, but until seventy times seven."I do not say seven times," answered Jesus, "but seventy times seven times.
Matthew 18:23Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. For this cause the kingdom of the heavens has become like a king who would reckon with his bondmen."For this reason the Kingdom of the Heavens may be compared to a king who determined to have a settlement of accounts with his servants.
Matthew 18:24And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. And having begun to reckon, one debtor of ten thousand talents was brought to him.But as soon as he began the settlement, one was brought before him who owed 10,000 talents,
Matthew 18:25But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. But he not having anything to pay, [his] lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and his children, and everything that he had, and that payment should be made.and was unable to pay. So his master ordered that he and his wife and children and everything that he had should be sold, and payment be made.
Matthew 18:26The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. The bondman therefore falling down did him homage, saying, Lord, have patience with me and I will pay thee all.The servant therefore falling down, prostrated himself at his feet and entreated him. "`Only give me time,' he said, `and I will pay you the whole.'
Matthew 18:27Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. And the lord of that bondman, being moved with compassion, loosed him and forgave him the loan."Whereupon his master, touched with compassion, set him free and forgave him the debt.
Matthew 18:28But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. But that bondman having gone out, found one of his fellow-bondmen who owed him a hundred denarii. And having seized him, he throttled him, saying, Pay [me] if thou owest anything. But no sooner had that servant gone out, than he met with one of his fellow servants who owed him 100 shillings; and seizing him by the throat and nearly strangling him he exclaimed, "`Pay me all you owe.'
Matthew 18:29And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. His fellow-bondman therefore, having fallen down [at his feet], besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee."His fellow servant therefore fell at his feet and entreated him, "`Only give me time,' he said, `and I will pay you.'
Matthew 18:30And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. But he would not, but went away and cast him into prison, until he should pay what was owing."He would not, however, but went and threw him into prison until he should pay what was due.
Matthew 18:31So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. But his fellow-bondmen, having seen what had taken place, were greatly grieved, and went and recounted to their lord all that had taken place. His fellow servants, therefore, seeing what had happened, were exceedingly angry; and they came and told their master without reserve all that had happened.
Matthew 18:32Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Then his lord, having called him to [him], says to him, Wicked bondman! I forgave thee all that debt because thou besoughtest me;At once his master called him and said, "`Wicked servant, I forgave you all that debt, because you entreated me:
Matthew 18:33Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow-bondman, as *I* also had compassion on thee?ought not you also to have had pity on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?'
Matthew 18:34And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. And his lord being angry delivered him to the tormentors till he paid all that was owing to him."So his master, greatly incensed, handed him over to the jailers until he should pay all he owed him.
Matthew 18:35So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. Thus also my heavenly Father shall do to you if ye forgive not from your hearts every one his brother."In the same way my Heavenly Father will deal with you, if you do not all of you forgive one another from your hearts."
