Matthew 11:1And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities. And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he passed from thence, to teach and preach in their cities.And it came about that when Jesus had come to the end of giving these orders to his twelve disciples, he went away from there, teaching and preaching in their towns.
Matthew 11:2Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, Now when John had heard in prison the works of Christ: sending two of his disciples he said to him:Now when John had news in prison of the works of the Christ, he sent his disciples
Matthew 11:3And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Art thou he that art to come, or look we for another?To say to him, Are you he who is to come, or are we waiting for another?
Matthew 11:4Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: And Jesus making answer said to them: Go and relate to John what you have heard and seen.And Jesus, answering, said to them, Go and give news to John of the things which you are seeing and hearing:
Matthew 11:5The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor have the gospel preached to them.The blind see; those who were not able to, are walking; lepers are made clean; those who were without hearing, now have their ears open; the dead come to life again, and the poor have the good news given to them.
Matthew 11:6And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. And blessed is he that shall not be scandalized in me.And a blessing will be on him who has no doubts about me.
Matthew 11:7And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? And when they went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: What went you out into the desert to see? a reed shaken with the wind?And when they were going away, Jesus, talking of John, said to all the people, What went you out into the waste land to see? a tall stem moving in the wind?
Matthew 11:8But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft garments? Behold they that are clothed in soft garments, are in the houses of kings.But what went you out to see? a man delicately clothed? Those who have fair robes are in kings' houses.
Matthew 11:9But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. But what went you out to see? a prophet? yea I tell you, and more than a prophet.But why did you go out? to see a prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.
Matthew 11:10For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. For this is he of whom it is written: Behold I send my angel before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.This is he of whom it has been said, See, I send my servant before your face, who will make ready your way before you.
Matthew 11:11Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Amen I say to you, there hath not risen among them that are born of women a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is the lesser in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.Truly I say to you, Among the sons of women there has not been a greater than John the Baptist: but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Matthew 11:12And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent bear it away.And from the days of John the Baptist till now, the kingdom of heaven is forcing its way in, and men of force take it.
Matthew 11:13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John:For all the prophets and the law were in force till John.
Matthew 11:14And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. And if you will receive it, he is Elias that is to come.And if you are able to see it, this is Elijah who was to come.
Matthew 11:15He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.He who has ears, let him give ear.
Matthew 11:16But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, But whereunto shall I esteem this generation to be like? It is like to children sitting in the market place.But what comparison may I make of this generation? It is like children seated in the market-places, crying out to one another,
Matthew 11:17And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented. Who crying to their companions say: We have piped to you, and you have not danced: we have lamented, and you have not mourned.We made music for you and you did not take part in the dance; we gave cries of sorrow and you made no signs of grief.
Matthew 11:18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. For John came neither eating nor drinking; and they say: He hath a devil.For John came, taking no food or drink, and they say, He has an evil spirit.
Matthew 11:19The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children. The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say: Behold a man that is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of publicans and sinners. And wisdom is justified by her children.The Son of man has come feasting, and they say, See, a lover of food and wine, a friend of tax-farmers and sinners! And wisdom is judged to be right by her works.
Matthew 11:20Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not: Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein were done the most of his miracles, for that they had not done penance.Then he went on to say hard things to the towns where most of his works of power were done, because they had not been turned from their sins.
Matthew 11:21Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Woe to thee, Corozain, woe to thee, Bethsaida: for if in Tyre and Sidon had been wrought the miracles that have been wrought in you, they had long ago done penance in sackcloth and ashes.Unhappy are you, Chorazin! Unhappy are you, Beth-saida! For if the works of power which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have been turned from their sins in days gone by, clothing themselves in haircloth and putting dust on their heads.
Matthew 11:22But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you.But I say to you, It will be better for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judging, than for you.
Matthew 11:23And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. And thou Capharnaum, shalt thou be exalted up to heaven? thou shalt go down even unto hell. For if in Sodom had been wrought the miracles that have been wrought in thee, perhaps it had remained unto this day.And you, Capernaum, were you not to be lifted up to heaven? you will go down into hell: for if the works of power which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been here to this day.
Matthew 11:24But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee. But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.But I say to you that it will be better for the land of Sodom in the day of judging, than for you.
Matthew 11:25At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones.At that time Jesus made answer and said, I give praise to you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have kept these things secret from the wise and the men of learning, and have made them clear to little children.
Matthew 11:26Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight. Yea, Father; for so hath it seemed good in thy sight.Yes, Father, for so it was pleasing in your eyes.
Matthew 11:27All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. All things are delivered to me by my Father. And no one knoweth the Son, but the Father: neither doth any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom it shall please the Son to reveal him.All things have been given to me by my Father; and no one has knowledge of the Son, but the Father; and no one has knowledge of the Father, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will make it clear.
Matthew 11:28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you.Come to me, all you who are troubled and weighted down with care, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.Take my yoke on you and become like me, for I am gentle and without pride, and you will have rest for your souls;
Matthew 11:30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. For my yoke is sweet and my burden light.For my yoke is good, and the weight I take up is not hard.
