John 9:1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. As He passed by, He saw a man who had been blind from his birth. And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.
John 9:2And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? So His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned this man or his parents that he was born blind?"And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?
John 9:3Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. "Neither he nor his parents sinned," answered Jesus, "but he was born blind in order that God's mercy might be openly shown in him.Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
John 9:4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. We must do the works of Him who sent me while there is daylight. Night is coming on, when no one can work.We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
John 9:5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When I am in the world, I am the Light of the world."When I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
John 9:6When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, After thus speaking, He spat on the ground, and then, kneading the dust and spittle into clay, He smeared the clay over the man's eyes and said to him,When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay,
John 9:7And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. "Go and wash in the pool of Siloam" the name means `Sent.' So he went and washed his eyes, and returned able to see.and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
John 9:8The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? His neighbours, therefore, and the other people to whom he had been a familiar object because he was a beggar, began asking, "Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?"The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
John 9:9Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he. "Yes it is," replied some of them. "No it is not," said others, "but he is like him." His own statement was, "I am the man."Others said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am [he].
John 9:10Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened? "How then were your eyes opened?" they asked. They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened?
John 9:11He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. "He whose name is Jesus," he answered, "made clay and smeared my eyes with it, and then told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed and obtained sight."He answered, The man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: so I went away and washed, and I received sight.
John 9:12Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not. "Where is he?" they inquired, but the man did not know. And they said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not.
John 9:13They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind. They brought him to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. They bring to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
John 9:14And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. Now the day on which Jesus made the clay and opened the man's eyes was the Sabbath. Now it was the sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
John 9:15Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see. So the Pharisees renewed their questioning as to how he had obtained his sight. "He put clay on my eyes," he replied, "and I washed, and now I can see."Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. And he said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see.
John 9:16Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. This led some of the Pharisees to say, "That man has not come from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." "How is it possible for a bad man to do such miracles?" argued others. Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was division among them.
John 9:17They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet. And there was a division among them. So again they asked the once blind man, "What is your account of him? for he opened your eyes." "He is a Prophet," he replied. They say therefore unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.
John 9:18But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. The Jews, however, did not believe the statement concerning him that he had been blind and had obtained his sight until they called his parents and asked them,The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,
John 9:19And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see? "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How is it then that he can now see?"and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? How then doth he now see?
John 9:20His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: "We know," replied the parents, "that this is our son and that he was born blind; His parents answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
John 9:21But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself. but how it is that he can now see or who has opened his eyes we do not know. Ask him himself; he is of full age; he himself will give his own account of it."but how he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not: ask him; he is of age; he shall speak for himself.
John 9:22These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. Such was their answer, because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already settled among themselves that if any one should acknowledge Jesus as the Christ, he should be excluded from the synagogue. These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him [to be] Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
John 9:23Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him. That was why his parents said, "He is of full age: ask him himself."Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
John 9:24Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. A second time therefore they called the man who had been blind, and said, "Give God the praise: we know that that man is a sinner."So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner.
John 9:25He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. "Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know," he replied; "one thing I know that I was once blind and that now I can see."He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
John 9:26Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? "What did he do to you?" they asked; "how did he open your eyes?"They said therefore unto him, What did he to thee? How opened he thine eyes?
John 9:27He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? "I have told you already," he replied, "and you did not listen to me. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also mean to be disciples of his?"He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples?
John 9:28Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples. Then they railed at him, and said, "You are that man's disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. And they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses.
John 9:29We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is. We know that God spoke to Moses; but as for this fellow we do not know where he comes from."We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is.
John 9:30The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. "Why, this is marvellous!" the man replied; "you do not know where he comes from, and yet he has opened my eyes! The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and [yet] he opened mine eyes.
John 9:31Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. We know that God does not listen to bad people, but that if any one is a God-fearing man and obeys Him, to him He listens. We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth.
John 9:32Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. From the beginning of the world such a thing was never heard of as that any one should open the eyes of a man blind from his birth.Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind.
John 9:33If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. Had that man not come from God, he could have done nothing."If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.
John 9:34They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. "You," they replied, "were wholly begotten and born in sin, and do *you* teach *us*?" And they put him out of the synagogue. They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
John 9:35Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? Jesus heard that they had done this. So having found him, He asked him, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
John 9:36He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? "Who is He, Sir?" replied the man. "Tell me, so that I may believe in Him."He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?
John 9:37And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. "You have seen Him," said Jesus; "and not only so: He is now speaking to you."Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee.
John 9:38And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. "I believe, Sir," he said. And he threw himself at His feet. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
John 9:39And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind. "I came into this world," said Jesus, "to judge men, that those who do not see may see, and that those who do see may become blind."And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see; and that they that see may become blind.
John 9:40And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also? These words were heard by those of the Pharisees who were present, and they asked Him, "Are *we* also blind?"Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said unto him, Are we also blind?
John 9:41Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth. "If you were blind," answered Jesus, "you would have no sin; but as a matter of fact you boast that you see. So your sin remains!"Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see: your sin remaineth.
