Luke 19:1And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. So He entered Jericho and was passing through the town.And he went into Jericho, and when he was going through it,
Luke 19:2And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. There was a man there called Zacchaeus, who was the local surveyor of taxes, and was wealthy.A man, named Zacchaeus, who was the chief tax-farmer, and a man of wealth,
Luke 19:3And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. He was anxious to see what sort of man Jesus was; but he could not because of the crowd, for he was short in stature.Made an attempt to get a view of Jesus, and was not able to do so, because of the people, for he was a small man.
Luke 19:4And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. So he ran on in front and climbed up a mulberry tree to see Him; for He was about to pass that way.And he went quickly in front of them and got up into a tree to see him, for he was going that way.
Luke 19:5And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. As soon as Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for I must stay at your house to-day."And when Jesus came to the place, looking up, he said to him, Zacchaeus, be quick and come down, for I am coming to your house today.
Luke 19:6And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. So he came down in haste, and welcomed Him joyfully.And he came down quickly, and took him into his house with joy.
Luke 19:7And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. When they all saw this, they began to complain with indignation. "He has gone in to be the guest of a notorious sinner!" they said.And when they saw it, they were all angry, saying, He has gone into the house of a sinner.
Luke 19:8And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. Zacchaeus however stood up, and addressing the Lord said, "Here and now, Master, I give half my property to the poor, and if I have unjustly exacted money from any man, I pledge myself to repay to him four times the amount."And Zacchaeus, waiting before him, said to the Lord, See, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from anyone wrongly, I give him back four times as much.
Luke 19:9And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. Turning towards him, Jesus replied, "To-day salvation has come to this house, seeing that he too is a son of Abraham.And Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, for even he is a son of Abraham.
Luke 19:10For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."For the Son of man came to make search for those who are wandering from the way, and to be their Saviour.
Luke 19:11And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. As they were listening to His words, He went on to teach them by a parable, because He was near to Jerusalem and they supposed that the Kingdom of God was going to appear immediately.And while they were giving ear to these words, he made another story for them, because he was near Jerusalem, and because they were of the opinion that the kingdom of God was coming straight away.
Luke 19:12He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. So He said to them, "A man of noble family travelled to a distant country to obtain the rank of king, and to return.So he said, A certain man of high birth went into a far-away country to get a kingdom for himself, and to come back.
Luke 19:13And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. And he called ten of his servants and gave each of them a pound, instructing them to trade with the money during his absence.And he sent for ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds and said to them, Do business with this till I come.
Luke 19:14But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. "Now his countrymen hated him, and sent a deputation after him to say, `We are not willing that he should become our king.'But his people had no love for him, and sent representatives after him, saying, We will not have this man for our ruler.
Luke 19:15And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. And upon his return, after he had obtained the sovereignty, he ordered those servants to whom he had given the money to be summoned before him, that he might learn their success in trading.And when he came back again, having got his kingdom, he gave orders for those servants to whom he had given the money to come to him, so that he might have an account of what business they had done.
Luke 19:16Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. "So the first came and said, "`Sir, your pound has produced ten pounds more.'And the first came before him, saying, Lord, your pound has made ten pounds.
Luke 19:17And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. "`Well done, good servant,' he replied; `because you have been faithful in a very small matter, be in authority over ten towns.'And he said to him, You have done well, O good servant: because you have done well in a small thing you will have authority over ten towns.
Luke 19:18And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. "The second came, and said, "`Your pound, Sir, has produced five pounds.'And another came, saying, Your pound has made five pounds.
Luke 19:19And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. "So he said to this one also, "`And you, be the governor of five towns.'And he said, You will be ruler over five towns.
Luke 19:20And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: "The next came. "`Sir,' he said, `here is your pound, which I have kept wrapt up in a cloth.And another came, saying, Lord, here is your pound, which I put away in a cloth;
Luke 19:21For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. For I was afraid of you, because you are a severe man: you take up what you did not lay down, and you reap what you did not sow.'Because I was in fear of you, for you are a hard man: you take up what you have not put down, and get in grain where you have not put seed.
Luke 19:22And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: "`By your own words,' he replied, `I will judge you, you bad servant. You knew me to be a severe man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow:He said to him, By the words of your mouth you will be judged, you bad servant. You had knowledge that I am a hard man, taking up what I have not put down and getting in grain where I have not put seed;
Luke 19:23Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? why then did you not put my money into a bank, that when I came I might have received it back with interest?Why then did you not put my money in a bank, so that when I came I would get it back with interest?
Luke 19:24And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. "And he said to those who stood by, "`Take the pound from him and give it to him who has the ten pounds.'And he said to the others who were near, Take the pound away from him, and give it to the man who has ten.
Luke 19:25(And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) ("They said to him, "`Sir, he already has ten pounds.')And they say to him, Lord, he has ten pounds.
Luke 19:26For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. "`I tell you that to every one who has anything, more shall be given; and from him who has not anything, even what he has shall be taken away.And I say to you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
Luke 19:27But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. But as for those enemies of mine who were unwilling that I should become their king, bring them here, and cut them to pieces in my presence.'"And as for those who were against me, who would not have me for their ruler, let them come here, and be put to death before me.
Luke 19:28And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem. After thus speaking, He journeyed onward, proceeding up to Jerusalem.And when he had said this, he went on in front of them, going up to Jerusalem.
Luke 19:29And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, And when he was come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount called the Oliveyard, He sent two of the disciples on in front,And it came about that when he got near Beth-phage and Bethany by the mountain which is named the Mountain of Olives, he sent two of the disciples,
Luke 19:30Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. saying to them, "Go into the village facing you. On entering it you will find an ass's foal tied up which no one has ever yet ridden: untie it, and bring it here.Saying, Go into the little town in front of you, and on going in you will see a young ass fixed with a cord, on which no man has ever been seated; let him loose and take him.
Luke 19:31And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him. And if any one asks you, `Why are you untying the colt?' simply say, `The Master needs it.'"And if anyone says to you, Why are you taking him? say, The Lord has need of him.
Luke 19:32And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them. So those who were sent went and found things as He had told them.And those whom he sent went away, and it was as he said.
Luke 19:33And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? And while they were untying the colt the owners called out, "Why are you untying the colt?"And when they were getting the young ass, the owners of it said to them, Why are you taking the young ass?
Luke 19:34And they said, The Lord hath need of him. and they replied, "The Master needs it."And they said, The Lord has need of him.
Luke 19:35And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon. Then they brought it to Jesus, and after throwing their outer garments on the colt they placed Jesus on it.And they took him to Jesus, and they put their clothing on the ass, and Jesus got on to him.
Luke 19:36And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. So He rode on, while they carpeted the road with their garments.And while he went on his way they put their clothing down on the road in front of him.
Luke 19:37And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; And when He was now getting near Jerusalem, and descending the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began in their joy to praise God in loud voices for all the mighty deeds they had witnessed.And when he came near the foot of the Mountain of Olives, all the disciples with loud voices gave praise to God with joy, because of all the great works which they had seen;
Luke 19:38Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. "Blessed is the King," they cried, "who comes in the name of the Lord: in Heaven peace, and glory in the highest realms."Saying, A blessing on the King who comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven and glory in the highest.
Luke 19:39And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. Thereupon some of the Pharisees in the crowd appealed to Him, saying, "Rabbi, reprove your disciples."And some of the Pharisees among the people said to him, Master, make your disciples be quiet.
Luke 19:40And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. "I tell you," He replied, "that if *they* became silent, the very stones would cry out."And he said in answer, I say to you, if these men keep quiet, the very stones will be crying out.
Luke 19:41And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, When He came into full view of the city, He wept aloud over it, and exclaimed,And when he got near and saw the town, he was overcome with weeping for it,
Luke 19:42Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. "O that at this time thou hadst known yes even thou what makes peace possible! But now it is hid from thine eyes.Saying, If you, even you, had knowledge today, of the things which give peace! but you are not able to see them.
Luke 19:43For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, For the time is coming upon thee when thy foes will throw up around thee earthworks and a wall, investing thee and hemming thee in on every side.For the time will come when your attackers will put a wall round you, and come all round you and keep you in on every side,
Luke 19:44And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. And they will dash thee to the ground and thy children within thee, and will not leave one stone upon another within thee; because thou hast not recognized the time of thy visitation."And will make you level with the earth, and your children with you; and there will not be one stone resting on another in you, because you did not see that it was your day of mercy.
Luke 19:45And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; Then Jesus entered the Temple and proceeded to drive out the dealers.And he went into the Temple and put out those who were trading there,
Luke 19:46Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves. "It is written," He said, "`And My house shall be the House of Prayer,' but you have made it a robbers' cave."Saying to them, It has been said, My house is to be a house of prayer, but you have made it a hole of thieves.
Luke 19:47And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, And day after day He taught in the Temple, while the High Priests and the Scribes were devising some means of destroying Him, as were also the leading men of the people.And every day he was teaching in the Temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the rulers of the people were attempting to put him to death;
Luke 19:48And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him. But they could not find any way of doing it, for the people all hung upon His lips.But they were not able to do anything, because the people all kept near him, being greatly interested in his words.
