Matthew 7:1 | Judge not, that ye be not judged. | "Judge not, that you may not be judged; | Be not judges of others, and you will not be judged. |
Matthew 7:2 | For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. | for your own judgement will be dealt and your own measure meted to yourselves. | For as you have been judging, so you will be judged, and with your measure will it be measured to you. |
Matthew 7:3 | And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? | And why do you look at the splinter in your brother's eye, and not notice the beam which is in your own eye? | And why do you take note of the grain of dust in your brother's eye, but take no note of the bit of wood which is in your eye? |
Matthew 7:4 | Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? | Or how say to your brother, `Allow me to take the splinter out of your eye,' while the beam is in your own eye? | Or how will you say to your brother, Let me take out the grain of dust from your eye, when you yourself have a bit of wood in your eye? |
Matthew 7:5 | Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. | Hypocrite, first take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly how to remove the splinter from your brother's eye. | You false one, first take out the bit of wood from your eye, then will you see clearly to take out the grain of dust from your brother's eye. |
Matthew 7:6 | Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. | "Give not that which is holy to the dogs, nor throw your pearls to the swine; otherwise they will trample them under their feet and then turn and attack you. | Do not give that which is holy to the dogs, or put your jewels before pigs, for fear that they will be crushed under foot by the pigs whose attack will then be made against you. |
Matthew 7:7 | Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: | "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. | Make a request, and it will be answered; what you are searching for you will get; give the sign, and the door will be open to you: |
Matthew 7:8 | For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. | For it is always he who asks that receives, he who seeks that finds, and he who knocks that has the door opened to him. | Because to everyone who makes a request, it will be given; and he who is searching will get his desire, and to him who gives the sign, the door will be open. |
Matthew 7:9 | Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? | What man is there among you, who if his son shall ask him for bread will offer him a stone? | Or which of you, if his son makes a request for bread, will give him a stone? |
Matthew 7:10 | Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? | Or if the son shall ask him for a fish will offer him a snake? | Or if he makes a request for a fish, will give him a snake? |
Matthew 7:11 | If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? | If you then, imperfect as you are, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in Heaven give good things to those who ask Him! | If you, then, being evil, are able to give good things to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who make requests to him? |
Matthew 7:12 | Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. | Everything, therefore, be it what it may, that you would have men do to you, do you also the same to them; for in this the Law and the Prophets are summed up. | All those things, then, which you would have men do to you, even so do you to them: because this is the law and the prophets. |
Matthew 7:13 | Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: | "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad the road which leads to ruin, and many there are who enter by it; | Go in by the narrow door; for wide is the door and open is the way which goes to destruction, and great numbers go in by it. |
Matthew 7:14 | Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. | because narrow is the gate and contracted the road which leads to Life, and few are those who find it. | For narrow is the door and hard the road to life, and only a small number make discovery of it. |
Matthew 7:15 | Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. | "Beware of the false teachers men who come to you in sheep's fleeces, but beneath that disguise they are ravenous wolves. | Be on the watch for false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inside they are cruel wolves. |
Matthew 7:16 | Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? | By their fruits you will easily recognize them. Are grapes gathered from thorns or figs from brambles? | By their fruits you will get knowledge of them. Do men get grapes from thorns or figs from thistles? |
Matthew 7:17 | Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. | Just so every good tree produces good fruit, but a poisonous tree produces bad fruit. | Even so, every good tree gives good fruit; but the bad tree gives evil fruit. |
Matthew 7:18 | A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. | A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor a poisonous tree good fruit. | It is not possible for a good tree to give bad fruit, and a bad tree will not give good fruit. |
Matthew 7:19 | Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. | Every tree which does not yield good fruit is cut down and thrown aside for burning. | Every tree which does not give good fruit is cut down and put in the fire. |
Matthew 7:20 | Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. | So by their fruits at any rate, you will easily recognize them. | So by their fruits you will get knowledge of them. |
Matthew 7:21 | Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. | "Not every one who says to me, `Master, Master,' will enter the Kingdom of the Heavens, but only those who are obedient to my Father who is in Heaven. | Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will go into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the pleasure of my Father in heaven. |
Matthew 7:22 | Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? | Many will say to me on that day, "`Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Thy name, and in Thy name expelled demons, and in Thy name performed many mighty works?' | A great number will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, were we not prophets in your name, and did we not by your name send out evil spirits, and by your name do works of power? |
Matthew 7:23 | And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. | "And then I will tell them plainly, "`I never knew you: begone from me, you doers of wickedness.' | And then will I say to them, I never had knowledge of you: go from me, you workers of evil. |
Matthew 7:24 | Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: | "Every one who hears these my teachings and acts upon them will be found to resemble a wise man who builds his house upon rock; | Everyone, then, to whom my words come and who does them, will be like a wise man who made his house on a rock; |
Matthew 7:25 | And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. | and the heavy rain falls, the swollen torrents come, and the winds blow and beat against the house; yet it does not fall, for its foundation is on rock. | And the rain came down and there was a rush of waters and the winds were driving against that house, but it was not moved; because it was based on the rock. |
Matthew 7:26 | And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: | And every one who hears these my teachings and does not act upon them will be found to resemble a fool who builds his house upon sand. | And everyone to whom my words come and who does them not, will be like a foolish man who made his house on sand; |
Matthew 7:27 | And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. | The heavy rain descends, the swollen torrents come, and the winds blow and burst upon the house, and it falls; and disastrous is the fall." | And the rain came down and there was a rush of waters and the winds were driving against that house; and it came down and great was its fall. |
Matthew 7:28 | And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: | When Jesus had concluded this discourse, the crowds were filled with amazement at His teaching, | And it came about, when Jesus had come to the end of these words, that the people were surprised at his teaching, |
Matthew 7:29 | For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. | for He had been teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their Scribes taught. | for he was teaching as one having authority, and not as their scribes. |
