Philemon 1:1Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer, Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother: To Philemon our dearly-loved fellow labourerPaul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timotheus the brother, to Philemon our beloved and fellow-worker,
Philemon 1:2And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house: and to our sister Apphia and our comrade Archippus as well as to the Church in your house.and Apphia the beloved, and Archippus our fellow-soldier, and the assembly in thy house:
Philemon 1:3Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. May grace be granted to you all, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ!
Philemon 1:4I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, I give continual thanks to my God while making mention of you, my brother, in my prayers,I give thanks to my God, always making mention of thee in my prayers,
Philemon 1:5Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have towards the Lord Jesus and which you manifest towards all God's people;hearing of thy love and faith that thou hast unto the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints,
Philemon 1:6That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. praying as I do, that their participation in your faith may result in others fully recognizing all the right affection that is in us toward Christ.that the fellowship of thy faith may become working in the full knowledge of every good thing that [is] in you toward Christ Jesus;
Philemon 1:7For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother. For I have found great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of God's people have been, and are, refreshed through you, my brother.for we have much joy and comfort in thy love, because the bowels of the saints have been refreshed through thee, brother.
Philemon 1:8Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient, Therefore, though I might with Christ's authority speak very freely and order you to do what is fitting,Wherefore, having in Christ much boldness to command thee that which is fit
Philemon 1:9Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. it is for love's sake that instead of that although I am none other than Paul the aged, and am now also a prisoner for Christ Jesus,because of the love I rather entreat, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ;
Philemon 1:10I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: I entreat you on behalf of my own child whose father I have become while in my chains I mean Onesimus.I entreat thee concerning my child whom I did beget in my bonds Onesimus,
Philemon 1:11Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me: Formerly he was useless to you, but now true to his name he is of great use to you and to me.who once was to thee unprofitable, and now is profitable to me and to thee,
Philemon 1:12Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels: I am sending him back to you, though in so doing I send part of myself.whom I did send again, and thou him (that is, my own bowels) receive,
Philemon 1:13Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel: It was my wish to keep him at my side for him to attend to my wants, as your representative, during my imprisonment for the Good News.whom I did wish to retain to myself, that in thy behalf he might minister to me in the bonds of the good news,
Philemon 1:14But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly. Only I wished to do nothing without your consent, so that his kind action of yours might not be done under pressure, but might be a voluntary one.and apart from thy mind I willed to do nothing, that as of necessity thy good deed may not be, but of willingness,
Philemon 1:15For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever; For perhaps it was for this reason he was parted from you for a time, that you might receive him back wholly and for ever yours;for perhaps because of this he did depart for an hour, that age-duringly thou mayest have him,
Philemon 1:16Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord? no longer as a slave, but as something better than a slave a brother peculiarly dear to me, and even dearer to you, both as a servant and as a fellow Christian.no more as a servant, but above a servant a brother beloved, especially to me, and how much more to thee, both in the flesh and in the Lord!
Philemon 1:17If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself. If therefore you regard me as a comrade, receive him as if he were I myself.If, then, with me thou hast fellowship, receive him as me,
Philemon 1:18If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account; And if he was ever dishonest or is in your debt, debit me with the amount.and if he did hurt to thee, or doth owe anything, this to me be reckoning;
Philemon 1:19I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides. I Paul write this with my own hand I will pay you in full. (I say nothing of the fact that you owe me even your own self.)I, Paul did write with my hand, I I will repay; that I may not say that also thyself, besides, to me thou dost owe.
Philemon 1:20Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord. Yes, brother, do me this favour for the Lord's sake. Refresh my heart in Christ.Yes, brother, may I have profit of thee in the Lord; refresh my bowels in the Lord;
Philemon 1:21Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say. I write to you in the full confidence that you will meet my wishes, for I know you will do even more than I say.having been confident in thy obedience I did write to thee, having known that also above what I may say thou wilt do;
Philemon 1:22But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you. And at the same time provide accommodation for me; for I hope that through your prayers I shall be permitted to come to you.and at the same time also prepare for me a lodging, for I hope that through your prayers I shall be granted to you.
Philemon 1:23There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus; Greetings to you, my brother, from Epaphras my fellow prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus;Salute thee doth Epaphras, (my fellow-captive in Christ Jesus,)
Philemon 1:24Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers. and from Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.Markus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lukas, my fellow-workmen!
Philemon 1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with the spirit of every one of you.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [is] with your spirit! Amen.
