| John 16:1 | These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. | "These things have I spoken to you, so that you wouldn't be caused to stumble. | "These things I have spoken to you in order to clear stumbling-blocks out of your path. |
| John 16:2 | They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. | They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time comes that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God. | You will be excluded from the synagogues; nay more, the time is coming when any one who has murdered one of you will suppose he is offering service to God. |
| John 16:3 | And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. | They will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me. | And they will do these things because they have failed to recognize the Father and to discover who I am. |
| John 16:4 | But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. | But I have told you these things, so that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you about them. I didn't tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you. | But I have spoken these things to you in order that when the time for their accomplishment comes you may remember them, and may recollect that I told you. I did not, however, tell you all this at first, because I was still with you. |
| John 16:5 | But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? | But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' | But now I an returning to Him who sent me; and not one of you asks me where I am going. |
| John 16:6 | But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. | But because I have told you these things, sorrow has filled your heart. | But grief has filled your hearts because I have said all this to you. |
| John 16:7 | Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. | Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is to your advantage that I go away, for if I don't go away, the Counselor won't come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. | "Yet it is the truth that I am telling you it is to your advantage that I go away. For unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. |
