1st-Peter 5:1 | The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: | Elders who [are] among you, I exhort, who [am] a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and of the glory about to be revealed a partaker, | So I exhort the Elders among you I who am their fellow Elder and have been an eye-witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and am also a sharer in the glory which is soon to be revealed. |
1st-Peter 5:2 | Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; | feed the flock of God that [is] among you, overseeing not constrainedly, but willingly, neither for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind, | Be shepherds of God's flock which is among you. Exercise the oversight not reluctantly but eagerly, in accordance with the will of God; not for base gain but with cheerful minds; |
1st-Peter 5:3 | Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. | neither as exercising lordship over the heritages, but patterns becoming of the flock, | not lording it over your Churches but proving yourselves patterns for the flock to imitate. |
1st-Peter 5:4 | And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. | and at the manifestation of the chief Shepherd, ye shall receive the unfading crown of glory. | And then, when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the never-withering wreath of glory. |
1st-Peter 5:5 | Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. | In like manner, ye younger, be subject to elders, and all to one another subjecting yourselves; with humble-mindedness clothe yourselves, because God the proud doth resist, but to the humble He doth give grace; | In the same way you younger men must submit to your elders; and all of you must gird yourselves with humility towards one another, for God sets Himself against the proud, but gives grace to the humble. |
1st-Peter 5:6 | Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: | be humbled, then, under the powerful hand of God, that you He may exalt in good time, | Humble yourselves therefore beneath the mighty hand of God, so that at the right time He may set you on high. |
1st-Peter 5:7 | Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. | all your care having cast upon Him, because He careth for you. | Throw the whole of your anxiety upon Him, because He Himself cares for you. |
1st-Peter 5:8 | Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: | Be sober, vigilant, because your opponent the devil, as a roaring lion, doth walk about, seeking whom he may swallow up, | Curb every passion, and be on the alert. Your great accuser, the Devil, is going about like a roaring lion to see whom he can devour. |
1st-Peter 5:9 | Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. | whom resist, stedfast in the faith, having known the same sufferings to your brotherhood in the world to be accomplished. | Withstand him, firm in your faith; knowing that your brethren in other parts of the world are passing through just the same experiences. |
1st-Peter 5:10 | But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. | And the God of all grace, who did call you to His age-during glory in Christ Jesus, having suffered a little, Himself make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle [you]; | And God, the giver of all grace, who has called you to share His eternal glory, through Christ, after you have suffered for a short time, will Himself make you perfect, firm, and strong. |
1st-Peter 5:11 | To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. | to Him [is] the glory, and the power to the ages and the ages! Amen. | To Him be all power unto the Ages of the Ages! Amen. |
1st-Peter 5:12 | By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand. | Through Silvanus, to you the faithful brother, as I reckon, through few [words] I did write, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which ye have stood. | I send this short letter by Silas, our faithful brother for such I regard him in order to encourage you, and to bear witness that what I have told you is the true grace of God. In it stand fast. |
1st-Peter 5:13 | The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son. | Salute you doth the [assembly] in Babylon jointly elected, and Markus my son. | The Church in Babylon, chosen like yourselves by God, sends greetings, and so does Mark my son. |
1st-Peter 5:14 | Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen. | Salute ye one another in a kiss of love; peace to you all who [are] in Christ Jesus! Amen. | Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be with all of you who are in Christ. |
