Acts 15:1 | And certain men who came down from Judea, taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. | Now certain men came down from Judaea, teaching the brothers and saying that without circumcision, after the rule of Moses, there is no salvation. | But certain persons who had come down from Judaea tried to convince the brethren, saying, "Unless you are circumcised in accordance with the Mosaic custom, you cannot be saved." |
Acts 15:2 | When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain others of them, should go to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question. | And after Paul and Barnabas had had no little argument and discussion with them, the brothers made a decision to send Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them to the Apostles and the rulers of the church at Jerusalem about this question. | Between these new comers and Paul and Barnabas there was no little disagreement and controversy, until at last it was decided that Paul and Barnabas and some other brethren should go up to consult the Apostles and Elders in Jerusalem on this matter. |
Acts 15:3 | And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice, and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy to all the brethren. | So they, being sent on their way by the church, went through Phoenicia and Samaria, giving news of the salvation of the Gentiles, to the great joy of all the brothers. | So they set out, being accompanied for a short distance by some other members of the Church; and as they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told the whole story of the conversion of the Gentiles and inspired all the brethren with great joy. |
Acts 15:4 | And when they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the church, and by the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them. | And when they came to Jerusalem, they had a meeting with the church and the Apostles and the rulers, and they gave an account of all the things which God had done through them. | Upon their arrival in Jerusalem they were cordially received by the Church, the Apostles, and the Elders; and they reported in detail all that God, working with them, had done. |
Acts 15:5 | But there rose certain of the sect of the Pharisees, who believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. | But some of the Pharisees, who were of the faith, got up and said, It is necessary for these to have circumcision and to keep the law of Moses. | But certain men who had belonged to the sect of the Pharisees but were now believers, stood up in the assembly, and said, "Yes, Gentile believers ought to be circumcised and be ordered to keep the Law of Moses." |
Acts 15:6 | And the apostles and elders came together to consider of this matter. | And the Apostles and the rulers of the church came together and gave thought to the question. | Then the Apostles and Elders met to consider the matter; |
Acts 15:7 | And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose and said to them, Men, brethren, ye know that a good while ago, God made choice among us, that the Gentiles, by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. | And when there had been much discussion, Peter got up and said to them, My brothers, you have knowledge that some time back it was God's pleasure that by my mouth the good news might be given to the Gentiles so that they might have faith. | and after there had been a long discussion Peter rose to his feet. "It is within your own knowledge," he said, "that God originally made choice among you that from my lips the Gentiles were to hear the Message of the Good News, and believe. |
Acts 15:8 | And God, who knoweth the hearts, bore them witness, giving to them the Holy Spirit, even as he did to us: | And God, the searcher of hearts, was a witness to them, giving them the Holy Spirit even as he did to us; | And God, who knows all hearts, gave His testimony in their favour by bestowing the Holy Spirit on them just as He did on us; |
Acts 15:9 | And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. | Making no division between them and us, but making clean their hearts by faith. | and He made no difference between us and them, in that He cleansed their hearts by their faith. |
Acts 15:10 | Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? | Why then are you testing God, by putting on the neck of the disciples a yoke so hard that not even our fathers or we were strong enough for it? | Now, therefore, why try an experiment upon God, by laying on the necks of these disciples a yoke which neither our forefathers nor we have been able to bear? |
Acts 15:11 | But we believe, that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we shall be saved even as they. | But we have faith that we will get salvation through the grace of the Lord Jesus in the same way as they. | On the contrary, we believe that it is by the grace of the Lord Jesus that we, as well as they, shall be saved." |
Acts 15:12 | Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought by them among the Gentiles. | And all the people were quiet while Barnabas and Paul gave an account of the signs and wonders which God had done among the Gentiles by them. | Then the whole assembly remained silent while they listened to the statement made by Paul and Barnabas as to all the signs and marvels that God had done among the Gentiles through their instrumentality. |
Acts 15:13 | And after they held their peace, James answered, saying, Men, brethren, hearken to me. | And when they had come to an end, James, answering, said, My brothers, give ear to me: | When they had finished speaking, James said, "Brethren, listen to me. |
Acts 15:14 | Simeon hath declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles to take from among them a people for his name. | Symeon has given an account of how God was first pleased to take from among the Gentiles a people for himself. | Symeon has related how God first looked graciously on the Gentiles to take from among them a People to be called by His name. |
Acts 15:15 | And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, | And this is in agreement with the words of the prophets, as it is said, | And this is in harmony with the language of the Prophets, which says: |
Acts 15:16 | After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins of it; and I will set it up: | After these things I will come back, and will put up the tent of David which has been broken down, building up again its broken parts and making it complete: | "`"Afterwards I will return, and will rebuild David's fallen tent. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will set it up again; |
Acts 15:17 | That the residue of men may seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. | So that the rest of men may make search for the Lord, and all the Gentiles on whom my name is named, | In order that the rest of mankind may earnestly seek the Lord even all the nations which are called by My name," |
Acts 15:18 | Known to God are all his works from the beginning of the world. | Says the Lord, who has made these things clear from the earliest times. | Says the Lord, who has been making these things known from ages long past.' |
Acts 15:19 | Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, who from among the Gentiles are turned to God: | For this reason my decision is, that we do not put trouble in the way of those who from among the Gentiles are turned to God; | "My judgement, therefore, is against inflicting unexpected annoyance on those of the Gentiles who are turning to God. |
Acts 15:20 | But that we write to them that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from lewdness, and from things strangled, and from blood. | But that we give them orders to keep themselves from things offered to false gods, and from the evil desires of the body, and from the flesh of animals put to death in ways against the law, and from blood. | Yet let us send them written instructions to abstain from things polluted by connexion with idolatry, from fornication, from meat killed by strangling, and from blood. |
Acts 15:21 | For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath. | For Moses, from times long past, has his preachers in every town, reading his law in the Synagogues every Sabbath. | For Moses from the earliest times has had his preachers in every town, being read, as he is, Sabbath after Sabbath, in the various synagogues." |
Acts 15:22 | Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch, with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren: | Then it seemed good to the Apostles and the rulers and all the church, to send men from among them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; Judas, named Barsabbas, and Silas, chief men among the brothers: | Thereupon it was decided by the Apostles and Elders, with the approval of the whole Church, to choose suitable persons from among themselves and send them to Antioch, with Paul and Barnabas. Acts 15:23 | And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles, and elders, and brethren, send greeting to the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, and Syria, and Cilicia. | And they sent a letter by them, saying, The Apostles and the older brothers, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, may joy be with you: | and they took with them the following letter: "The Apostles and the elder brethren send greeting to the Gentile brethren throughout Antioch, Syria and Cilicia. |
Acts 15:24 | Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain who went out from us, have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law; to whom we gave no such commandment: | Because we have knowledge that some who went from us have been troubling you with their words, putting your souls in doubt; to whom we gave no such order; | As we have been informed that certain persons who have gone out from among us have disturbed you by their teaching and have unsettled your minds, without having received any such instructions from us; |
Acts 15:25 | It seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you, with our beloved Barnabas and Paul: | It seemed good to us, having come to an agreement together, to send these men to you, with our well loved Barnabas and Paul, | we have unanimously decided to select certain men and send them to you in company with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul, |
Acts 15:26 | Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. | Men who have given up their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. | who have endangered their very lives for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
Acts 15:27 | We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who will also tell you the same things by mouth. | And so we have sent Judas and Silas, who will say the same things to you themselves, by word of mouth. | We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who are themselves bringing you the same message by word of mouth. |

Acts 15:29 | That ye abstain from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from lewdness: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye will do well. Fare ye well. | To keep from things offered to false gods, and from blood, and from things put to death in ways which are against the law, and from the evil desires of the body; if you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. May you be happy. | You must abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from fornication. Keep yourselves clear of these things, and it will be well with you. Farewell." |
Acts 15:30 | So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had convened the multitude, they delivered the epistle. | So they, being sent away, came down to Antioch, and having got the people together, they gave them the letter. | They, therefore, having been solemnly sent, came down to Antioch, where they called together the whole assembly and delivered the letter. |
Acts 15:31 | Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation. | And after reading it, they were glad of its comfort. | The people read it, and were delighted with the comfort it brought them. |
Acts 15:32 | And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them. | And Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, gave teaching to the brothers and made them strong in the faith. | And Judas and Silas, being themselves also Prophets, gave them a long and encouraging talk, and strengthened them in the faith. |
Acts 15:33 | And after they had tarried there a time, they were dismissed in peace from the brethren to the apostles. | And when they had been there for some time, they were sent back in peace by the brothers to those who had sent them. | After spending some time there they received an affectionate farewell from the brethren to return to those who had sent them. |

Acts 15:36 | And some days after, Paul said to Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren, in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do. | And after some days, Paul said to Barnabas, Let us go back and see the brothers in every town where we have given the word of God, and see how they are. | After a while Paul said to Barnabas, "Suppose we now revisit the brethren in the various towns in which we have made known the Lord's Message to see whether they are prospering!" |
Acts 15:37 | And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark. | And Barnabas had a desire to take with them John, named Mark. | Barnabas, however, was bent on taking with them John, whose other name was Mark, |
Acts 15:38 | But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work. | But Paul was of the opinion that it was not right to take with them one who had gone away from them in Pamphylia, and had not gone on with the work. | while Paul deemed it undesirable to have as their companion one who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone on with them to the work. |
Acts 15:39 | And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed, separating one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed to Cyprus. | And there was a sharp argument between them, so that they were parted from one another, and Barnabas took Mark with him and went by ship to Cyprus; | So there arose a serious disagreement between them, which resulted in their parting from one another, Barnabas taking Mark and setting sail for Cyprus. |
Acts 15:40 | And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of God. | But Paul took Silas and went away with the blessing of the brothers. | But Paul chose Silas as his travelling companion; and set out, after being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord; |
Acts 15:41 | And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches. | And he went through Syria and Cilicia, making the churches stronger in the faith. | and he passed through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the Churches. |
