Revelation 9:2 | And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. | And he made the great deep open and a smoke went up from it, like the smoke of a great oven; and the sun and the air were made dark because of the smoke. | and he opened the depths of the bottomless pit. And smoke came up out of the pit resembling the smoke of a vast furnace, so that the sun was darkened, and the air also, by reason of the smoke of the pit. |
Revelation 9:3 | And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. | And from the smoke locusts came out on the earth; and power was given them, like the power of scorpions. | And from the midst of the smoke there came locusts on to the earth, and power was given to them resembling the power which earthly scorpions possess. |
Revelation 9:4 | And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men who have not the seal of God in their foreheads. | And they were ordered to do no damage to the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only to such men as have not the mark of God on their brows. | And they were forbidden to injure the herbage of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree. They were only to injure human beings those who have not the seal of God on their foreheads. |
Revelation 9:5 | And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. | And orders were given them not to put them to death, but to give them great pain for five months: and their pain was as the pain from the wound of a scorpion. | Their mission was not to kill, but to cause awful agony for five months; and this agony was like that which a scorpion inflicts when it stings a man. |
Revelation 9:6 | And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. | And in those days men will be hoping for death, and it will not come to them; and they will have a great desire for death, and death will go in flight from them. | And at that time people will seek death, but will by no possibility find it, and will long to die, but death evades them. |
Revelation 9:7 | And the shapes of the locusts were like to horses prepared for battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. | And the forms of the locusts were like horses made ready for war; and on their heads they had crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. | The appearance of the locusts was like that of horses equipped for war. On their heads they had wreaths which looked like gold. |
Revelation 9:8 | And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. | And they had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. | Their faces seemed human and they had hair like women's hair, but their teeth resembled those of lions. |
Revelation 9:9 | And they had breast-plates, as it were breast-plates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. | And they had breastplates like iron, and the sound of their wings was as the sound of carriages, like an army of horses rushing to the fight. | They had breast-plates which seemed to be made of steel; and the noise caused by their wings was like that of a vast number of horses and chariots hurrying into battle. |
Revelation 9:10 | And they had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. | And they have pointed tails like scorpions; and in their tails is their power to give men wounds for five months. | They had tails like those of scorpions, and also stings; and in their tails lay their power of injuring mankind for five months. |
Revelation 9:11 | And they had a king over them, who is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew language is Abaddon, but in the Greek language he hath his name Apollyon. | They have over them as king the angel of the great deep: his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek language Apollyon. | The locusts had a king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is `Abaddon,' while in the Greek he is called `Apollyon.' |

Revelation 9:14 | Saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, Loose the four angels who are bound in the great river Euphrates. | Saying to the sixth angel who had the horn, Make free the four angels who are chained at the great river Euphrates. | It said to the sixth angel the angel who had the trumpet, "Set at liberty the four angels who are prisoners near the great river Euphrates." |

Revelation 9:16 | And the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them. | And the number of the armies of the horsemen was twice ten thousand times ten thousand: the number of them came to my ears. | The number of the cavalry was two hundred millions; I heard their number. |
Revelation 9:17 | And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breast-plates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions: and out of their mouths issued fire, and smoke, and brimstone. | And so I saw the horses in the vision, and those who were seated on them, having breastplates of fire and glass and of burning stone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire and smoke and a smell of burning. | And this was the appearance of the horses which I saw in my vision and of their riders. The body-armour of the riders was red, blue and yellow; and the horses' heads were shaped like the heads of lions, while from their mouths there came fire and smoke and sulphur. |
Revelation 9:18 | By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. | By these evils a third part of men was put to death, by the fire, and the smoke, and the burning smell which came out of their mouths. | By these three plagues a third part of mankind were destroyed by the fire and the smoke, and by the sulphur which came from their mouths. |
Revelation 9:19 | For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like to serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt. | For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails: because their tails are like snakes, and have heads, and with them they give wounds. | For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails; their tails being like serpents, and having heads, and it is with them that they inflict injury. |
Revelation 9:20 | And the rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: | And the rest of the people, who were not put to death by these evils, were not turned from the works of their hands, but went on giving worship to evil spirits, and images of gold and silver and brass and stone and wood which have no power of seeing or hearing or walking: | But the rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues, did not even then repent and leave the things they had made, so as to cease worshipping the demons, and the idols of gold and silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear, nor move. |
Revelation 9:21 | Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their lewdness, nor of their thefts. | And they had no regret for putting men to death, or for their use of secret arts, or for the evil desires of the flesh, or for taking the property of others. | Nor did they repent of their murders, their practice of magic, their fornication, or their thefts. |
