Luke 5:1And it came to pass, that as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret. Now it came about that while the people came pushing to be near him, and to have knowledge of the word of God, he was by a wide stretch of water named Gennesaret; Now it happened, while the multitude pressed on him and heard the word of God, that he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret.
Luke 5:2And saw two boats standing by the lake: but the fishermen had gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he saw two boats by the edge of the water, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.He saw two boats standing by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
Luke 5:3And he entered into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the boat. And he got into one of the boats, the property of Simon, and made a request to him to go a little way out from the land. And being seated he gave the people teaching from the boat.He entered into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. He sat down and taught the multitudes out of the boat.
Luke 5:4Now when he had left speaking, he said to Simon, Lanch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And when his talk was ended, he said to Simon, Go out into deep water, and let down your nets for fish. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch."
Luke 5:5And Simon answering said to him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing; nevertheless, at thy word I will let down the net.And Simon, answering, said, Master, we were working all night and we took nothing: but at your word I will let down the nets.Simon answered him, "Master, we worked all night, and took nothing; but at your word I will let down the net."
Luke 5:6And when they had done this, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net broke. And when they had done this, they got such a great number of fish that it seemed as if their nets would be broken; When they had done this, they caught a great multitude of fish, and their net was breaking.
Luke 5:7And they beckoned to their partners, who were in the other boat, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. And they made signs to their friends in the other boat to come to their help. And they came, and the two boats were so full that they were going down. They beckoned to their partners in the other boat, that they should come and help them. They came, and filled both boats, so that they began to sink.
Luke 5:8When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. But Simon, when he saw it, went down at the knees of Jesus and said, Go away from me, O Lord, for I am a sinner. But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, Lord."
Luke 5:9For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:For he was full of wonder and so were all those who were with him, at the number of fish which they had taken;For he was amazed, and all who were with him, at the catch of fish which they had caught;
Luke 5:10And so was also James and John the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Fear not: from henceforth thou shalt catch men.And so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were working with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Have no fear; from this time forward you will be a fisher of men.and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid. From now on you will catch men alive."
Luke 5:11And when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all, and followed him.And when they had got their boats to the land, they gave up everything and went after him. When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything, and followed him.
Luke 5:12And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold, a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus, fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And it came about that while he was in one of the towns, there was a leper there: and when he saw Jesus he went down on his face in prayer to him, saying, Lord, if it is your pleasure, you have power to make me clean. It happened, while he was in one of the cities, behold, there was a man full of leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell on his face, and begged him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean."
Luke 5:13And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: Be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.And he put out his hand to him and said, It is my pleasure; be clean. And straight away his disease went from him.He stretched forth his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be made clean." Immediately the leprosy departed from him.
Luke 5:14And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded for a testimony to them. And he gave him orders: Say nothing to any man, but let the priest see you and give an offering so that you may be made clean, as the law of Moses says, and for a witness to them.He charged him to tell no one, "But go your way, and show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing, according to what Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."
Luke 5:15But so much the more a fame of him went abroad: and great multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by him of their infirmities. But news of him went out all the more, in every direction, and great numbers of people came together to give hearing to his words and to be made well from their diseases. But the report concerning him spread much more, and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.
Luke 5:16And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed. But he went away by himself to a waste place for prayer. But he withdrew himself into the desert, and prayed.
Luke 5:17And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, and Judea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. And it came about that on one of these days he was teaching; and some Pharisees and teachers of the law were seated there, who had come from every town of Galilee and Judaea and from Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was with him, to make those who were ill free from their diseases. It happened on one of those days, that he was teaching; and there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every village of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. The power of the Lord was with him to heal them.
Luke 5:18And behold, men brought in a bed a man who was taken with the palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.And some men had with them, on a bed, a man who was ill, without power of moving; and they made attempts to get him in and put him before Jesus.Behold, men brought a paralyzed man on a cot, and they sought to bring him in to lay before him.
Luke 5:19And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in, because of the multitude, they went upon the house-top, and let him down through the tiling with his couch, into the midst before Jesus. And because of the mass of people, there was no way to get him in; so they went up on the top of the house and let him down through the roof, on his bed, into the middle in front of Jesus. Not finding a way to bring him in because of the multitude, they went up to the housetop, and let him down through the tiles with his cot into the midst before Jesus.
Luke 5:20And when he saw their faith, he said to him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. And seeing their faith he said, Man, you have forgiveness for your sins.Seeing their faith, he said to him, "Man, your sins are forgiven you."
Luke 5:21And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this who speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone? And the scribes and Pharisees were having an argument, saying, Who is this, who has no respect for God? who is able to give forgiveness for sins, but God only? The scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is this that speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?"
Luke 5:22But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering, said to them, What reason ye in your hearts? But Jesus, who had knowledge of their thoughts, said to them, Why are you reasoning in your hearts? But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, answered them, "Why are you reasoning so in your hearts?
Luke 5:23Which is easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Rise and walk?Which is the simpler: to say, You have forgiveness for your sins; or to say, Get up and go?Which is easier to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you;' or to say, 'Arise and walk?'
Luke 5:24But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, He said to the sick with the palsy, I say to thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thy house. But so that you may see that on earth the Son of man has authority for the forgiveness of sins, (he said to the man who was ill,) I say to you, Get up, and take up your bed, and go into your house. But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" (he said to the paralyzed man), "I tell you, arise, and take up your cot, and go to your house."
Luke 5:25And immediately he arose before them, and took up that on which he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.And straight away he got up before them, and took up his bed and went away to his house giving praise to God.Immediately he rose up before them, and took up that which he was laying on, and departed to his house, glorifying God.
Luke 5:26And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to-day.And wonder overcame them all, and they gave glory to God; and they were full of fear, saying, We have seen strange things today.Amazement took hold on all, and they glorified God. They were filled with fear, saying, "We have seen strange things today."
Luke 5:27And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said to him, Follow me.And after these things he went out, and saw Levi, a tax-farmer, seated at the place where taxes were taken, and said to him, Come after me.After these things he went out, and saw a tax collector, named Levi, sitting at the tax office, and said to him, "Follow me."
Luke 5:28And he left all, arose, and followed him.And giving up his business, he got up and went after him.He left everything, and rose up and followed him.
Luke 5:29And Levi made him a great feast in his own house; and there was a great company of publicans, and of others that sat down with them. And Levi made a great feast for him in his house: and a great number of tax-farmers and others were seated at table with them.Levi made him a great feast for him in his house. There was a great crowd of tax collectors and others who were reclining with them.
Luke 5:30But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? And the Pharisees and their scribes made protests against his disciples, saying, Why do you take food and drink with tax-farmers and sinners?Their scribes and the Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?"
Luke 5:31And Jesus answering, said to them, They that are well need not a physician; but they that are sick. And Jesus, answering, said to them, Those who are well have no need of a medical man, but those who are ill.Jesus answered them, "Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do.
Luke 5:32I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.I have come, not to get the upright, but sinners, so that they may be turned from their sins.I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
Luke 5:33And they said to him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink? And they said to him, The disciples of John frequently go without food, and make prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees; but your disciples take food and drink. They said to him, "Why do John's disciples often fast and pray, likewise also the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink?"
Luke 5:34And he said to them, Can ye make the children of the bride-chamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? And Jesus said, Are you able to make the friends of the newly-married man go without food when he is with them?He said to them, "Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast, while the bridegroom is with them?
Luke 5:35But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then they will fast in those days. But the days will come when he will be taken away from them, and then they will go without food. But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them. Then will they fast in those days."
Luke 5:36And he spoke also a parable to them: No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old: if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new, agreeth not with the old.And he said to them, in a story, No man takes a bit of cloth from a new coat and puts it on to an old coat, for so the new coat would be damaged and the bit from the new would not go well with the old.He also told a parable to them. "No one puts a piece from a new garment on an old garment, or else he will tear the new, and also the piece from the new will not match the old.
Luke 5:37And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles will perish. And no man puts new wine into old wine-skins, for fear that the skins will be burst by the new wine, and the wine be let out, and the skins come to destruction. No one puts new wine into old wineskins, or else the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed.
Luke 5:38But new wine must be put into new bottles, and both are preserved. But new wine has to be put into new wine-skins.But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.
Luke 5:39No man also having drank old wine, immediately desireth new: for he saith, The old is better. And no man, having had old wine, has any desire for new, for he says, The old is better. No man having drunk old wine immediately desires new, for he says, 'The old is better.'"
