Genesis 35:1 | And God said to Jacob, Arise, go up to Beth-el, and dwell there: and make there an altar to God, who appeared to thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. | And God said to Jacob, Go up now to Beth-el and make your living-place there: and put up an altar there to the God who came to you when you were in flight from your brother Esau. | And God saith unto Jacob, `Rise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared unto thee in thy fleeing from the face of Esau thy brother.` |
Genesis 35:2 | Then Jacob said to his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: | Then Jacob said to all his people, Put away the strange gods which are among you, and make yourselves clean, and put on a change of clothing: | And Jacob saith unto his household, and unto all who [are] with him, `Turn aside the gods of the stranger which [are] in your midst, and cleanse yourselves, and change your garments; |
Genesis 35:3 | And let us arise, and go up to Beth-el; and I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went. | And let us go up to Beth-el: and there I will make an altar to God, who gave me an answer in the day of my trouble, and was with me wherever I went. | and we rise, and go up to Bethel, and I make there an altar to God, who is answering me in the day of my distress, and is with me in the way that I have gone.` |
Genesis 35:4 | And they gave to Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and the ear-rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem. | Then they gave to Jacob all the strange gods which they had, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob put them away under the holy tree at Shechem. | And they give unto Jacob all the gods of the stranger that [are] in their hand, and the rings that [are] in their ears, and Jacob hideth them under the oak which [is] by Shechem; |
Genesis 35:5 | And they journeyed: and the terror of God was on the cities that were round them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob. | So they went on their journey: and the fear of God was on the towns round about, so that they made no attack on the sons of Jacob. | and they journey, and the terror of God is on the cities which [are] round about them, and they have not pursued after the sons of Jacob. |
Genesis 35:6 | So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan (that is Beth-el) he and all the people that were with him. | And Jacob came to Luz in the land of Canaan (which is the same as Beth-el), he and all his people. | And Jacob cometh in to Luz which [is] in the land of Canaan (it [is] Bethel), he and all the people who [are] with him, |
Genesis 35:7 | And he erected there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el; because there God appeared to him, when he fled from the face of his brother. | And there he made an altar, naming the place El-beth-el: because it was there he had the vision of God when he was in flight from his brother. | and he buildeth there an altar, and proclaimeth at the place the God of Bethel: for there had God been revealed unto him, in his fleeing from the face of his brother. |
Genesis 35:8 | But Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried beneath Beth-el, under an oak: and the name of it was called Allon-bachuth. | And Deborah, the servant who had taken care of Rebekah from her birth, came to her end, and was put to rest near Beth-el, under the holy tree: and they gave it the name of Allon-bacuth. | And Deborah, Rebekah`s nurse, dieth, and she is buried at the lower part of Bethel, under the oak, and he calleth its name `Oak of weeping.` |
Genesis 35:9 | And God appeared to Jacob again when he came out of Padan-aram; and blessed him. | Now when Jacob was on his way from Paddan-aram, God came to him again and, blessing him, said, | And God appeareth unto Jacob again, in his coming from Padan-Aram, and blesseth him; |
Genesis 35:10 | And God said to him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name; and he called his name Israel. | Jacob is your name, but it will be so no longer; from now your name will be Israel; so he was named Israel. | and God saith to him, `Thy name [is] Jacob: thy name is no more called Jacob, but Israel is thy name;` and He calleth his name Israel. |
Genesis 35:11 | And God said to him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a multitude of nations shall spring from thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins. | And God said to him, I am God, the Ruler of all: be fertile, and have increase; a nation, truly a group of nations, will come from you, and kings will be your offspring; | And God saith to him, `I [am] God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply, a nation and an assembly of nations is from thee, and kings from thy loins go out; |
Genesis 35:12 | And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land. | And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give to you; and to your seed after you I will give the land. | and the land which I have given to Abraham and to Isaac to thee I give it, yea to thy seed after thee I give the land.` |
Genesis 35:13 | And God went up from him, in the place where he talked with him. | Then God went up from him in the place where he had been talking with him. | And God goeth up from him, in the place where He hath spoken with him. |
Genesis 35:14 | And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink-offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon. | And Jacob put up a pillar in the place where he had been talking with God, and put a drink offering on it, and oil. | And Jacob setteth up a standing pillar in the place where He hath spoken with him, a standing pillar of stone, and he poureth on it an oblation, and he poureth on it oil; |
Genesis 35:15 | And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Beth-el. | And he gave to the place where God had been talking with him, the name of Beth-el. | and Jacob calleth the name of the place where God spake with him Bethel. |
Genesis 35:16 | And they journeyed from Beth-el; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labor. | So they went on from Beth-el; and while they were still some distance from Ephrath, the pains of birth came on Rachel and she had a hard time. | And they journey from Bethel, and there is yet a kibrath of land before entering Ephratha, and Rachel beareth, and is sharply pained in her bearing; |
Genesis 35:17 | And it came to pass when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also. | And when her pain was very great, the woman who was helping her said, Have no fear; for now you will have another son. | and it cometh to pass, in her being sharply pained in her bearing, that the midwife saith to her, `Fear not, for this also [is] a son for thee.` |
Genesis 35:18 | And it came to pass as her soul was in departing (for she died) that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father called him Benjamin. | And in the hour when her life went from her (for death came to her), she gave the child the name Ben-oni: but his father gave him the name of Benjamin. | And it cometh to pass in the going out of her soul (for she died), that she calleth his name Ben-Oni; and his father called him Benjamin; |
Genesis 35:19 | And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Beth-lehem. | So Rachel came to her end and was put to rest on the road to Ephrath (which is Beth-lehem). | and Rachel dieth, and is buried in the way to Ephratha, which [is] Bethlehem, |
Genesis 35:20 | And Jacob set a pillar on her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave to this day. | And Jacob put up a pillar on her resting-place; which is named, The Pillar of the resting-place of Rachel, to this day. | and Jacob setteth up a standing pillar over her grave; which [is] the standing pillar of Rachel`s grave unto this day. |
Genesis 35:21 | And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar. | And Israel went journeying on and put up his tents on the other side of the tower of the flock. | And Israel journeyeth, and stretcheth out his tent beyond the tower of Edar; |
Genesis 35:22 | And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: | Now while they were living in that country, Reuben had connection with Bilhah, his father's servant-woman: and Israel had news of it. | and it cometh to pass in Israel`s dwelling in that land, that Reuben goeth, and lieth with Bilhah his father`s concubine; and Israel heareth. |
Genesis 35:23 | The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's first-born, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun: | Now Jacob had twelve sons: the sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob's first son, and Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulun; | And the sons of Jacob are twelve. Sons of Leah: Jacob`s first-born Reuben, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun. |
Genesis 35:24 | The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin: | The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin; | Sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin. |
Genesis 35:25 | And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali: | The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's servant: Dan and Naphtali; | And sons of Bilhah, Rachel`s maid-servant: Dan and Naphtali. |
Genesis 35:26 | And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid; Gad, and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Padan-aram. | The sons of Zilpah, Leah's servant: Gad and Asher; these are the sons whom Jacob had in Paddan-aram. | And sons of Zilpah, Leah`s maid-servant: Gad and Asher. These [are] sons of Jacob, who have been born to him in Padan-Aram. |
Genesis 35:27 | And Jacob came to Isaac his father to Mamre, to the city of Arbah (which is Hebron) where Abraham and Isaac sojourned. | And Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre, at Kiriath-arba, that is, Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac had been living. | And Jacob cometh unto Isaac his father, at Mamre, the city of Arba (which [is] Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac have sojourned. |
Genesis 35:28 | And the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years. | And Isaac was a hundred and eighty years old. | And the days of Isaac are a hundred and eighty years, |
Genesis 35:29 | And Isaac expired and died, and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days; and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him. | Then Isaac came to his end and was put to rest with his father's people, an old man after a long life: and Jacob and Esau, his sons, put him in his last resting-place. | and Isaac expireth, and dieth, and is gathered unto his people, aged and satisfied with days; and bury him do Esau and Jacob his sons. |
