Luke 24:1Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.But on the morrow of the sabbath, very early indeed in the morning, they came to the tomb, bringing the aromatic spices which they had prepared.But on the first day of the week, at dawn, they came to the place where his body had been put, taking the spices which they had got ready.
Luke 24:2And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher.And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.And they saw that the stone had been rolled away.
Luke 24:3And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.And when they had entered they found not the body of the Lord Jesus.And they went in, but the body of the Lord Jesus was not there.
Luke 24:4And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed at this, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.And it came to pass as they were in perplexity about it, that behold, two men suddenly stood by them in shining raiment.And while they were in doubt about it, they saw two men in shining clothing by them:
Luke 24:5And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said to them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?And as they were filled with fear and bowed their faces to the ground, they said to them, Why seek ye the living one among the dead?And while their faces were bent down to the earth in fear, these said to them, Why are you looking for the living among the dead?
Luke 24:6He is not here, but is risen. Remember how he spoke to you when he was yet in Galilee,He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spoke to you, being yet in Galilee,He is not here, he has come back to life: have in mind what he said to you when he was still in Galilee, saying,
Luke 24:7Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.saying, The Son of man must be delivered up into the hands of sinners, and be crucified, and rise the third day.The Son of man will be given up into the hands of evil-doers, and be put to death on the cross, and on the third day he will come back to life.
Luke 24:8And they remembered his words,And they remembered his words;And his words came back into their minds,
Luke 24:9And returned from the sepulcher, and told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.and, returning from the sepulchre, related all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.And they went away from that place and gave an account of all these things to the eleven disciples and all the others.
Luke 24:10It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, who told these things to the apostles.Now it was Mary of Magdala, and Johanna, and Mary the [mother] of James, and the others with them, who told these things to the apostles.Now they were Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary, the mother of James: and the other women with them said these things to the Apostles.
Luke 24:11And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.And their words appeared in their eyes as an idle tale, and they disbelieved them.But these words seemed foolish to them, and they had no belief in them.
Luke 24:12Then Peter arose, and ran to the sepulcher, and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which had come to pass.But Peter, rising up, ran to the sepulchre, and stooping down he sees the linen clothes lying there alone, and went away home, wondering at what had happened.But Peter got up and went to the place where the body had been put, and looking in he saw nothing but the linen cloths, and he went to his house full of wonder at what had taken place.
Luke 24:13And behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about sixty furlongs.And behold, two of them were going on the same day to a village distant sixty stadia from Jerusalem, called Emmaus;And then, two of them, on that very day, were going to a little town named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem.
Luke 24:14And they talked together of all these things which had happened.and they conversed with one another about all these things which had taken place.And they were talking together about all those things which had taken place.
Luke 24:15And it came to pass, that, while they communed together, and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.And it came to pass as they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus himself drawing nigh, went with them;And while they were talking and questioning together, Jesus himself came near and went with them.
Luke 24:16But their eyes were held, that they should not know him.but their eyes were holden so as not to know him.But their eyes were not open that they might have knowledge of him.
Luke 24:17And he said to them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?And he said to them, What discourses are these which pass between you as ye walk, and are downcast?And he said to them, What are you talking about together while you go?
Luke 24:18And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering, said to him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which have come to pass there in these days?And one [of them], named Cleopas, answering said to him, Thou sojournest alone in Jerusalem, and dost not know what has taken place in it in these days?Then stopping, and looking sadly at him, one of them, named Cleopas, said to him, Are you the only man living in Jerusalem who has not had news of the things which have taken place there at this time?
Luke 24:19And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God, and all the people:And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazaraean, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;And he said to them, What things? And they said, The things to do with Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, great in his acts and his words, before God and all the people:
Luke 24:20And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and crucified him.and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to [the] judgment of death and crucified him.And how the chief priests and our rulers gave him up to be put to death on the cross.
Luke 24:21But we trusted that it had been he who would have redeemed Israel: and besides all this, to-day is the third day since these things were done.But *we* had hoped that *he* was [the one] who is about to redeem Israel. But then, besides all these things, it is now, to-day, the third day since these things took place.But we were hoping that he would be the Saviour of Israel. In addition to all this he has now let three days go by from the time when these things took place;
Luke 24:22Yes, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, who were early at the sepulcher.And withal, certain women from amongst us astonished us, having been very early at the sepulchre,And certain women among us gave us cause for wonder, for they went early to the place where his body had been put,
Luke 24:23And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.and, not having found his body, came, saying that they also had seen a vision of angels, who say that he is living.And it was not there; then they came saying that they had seen a vision of angels who said that he was living.
Luke 24:24And certain of them who were with us, went to the sepulcher, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.And some of those with us went to the sepulchre, and found it so, as the women also had said, but him they saw not.And some of those who were with us went to the place, and saw that it was as the women had said, but him they did not see.
Luke 24:25Then he said to them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!And *he* said to them, O senseless and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!And he said, O foolish men! how slow you are to give belief to what the prophets have said.
Luke 24:26Ought not Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory?Was it not necessary for the Christ to go through these things, and to come into his glory?
Luke 24:27And beginning at Moses, and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.And he made clear to them all the things in the Writings, from Moses and from all the prophets, which had to do with himself.
Luke 24:28And they drew nigh to the village whither they were going: and he made as though he would go further.And they drew near to the village where they were going, and *he* made as though he would go farther.And they came near the town to which they were going, and he seemed as if he was going on;
Luke 24:29But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is towards evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.And they constrained him, saying, Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is declining. And he entered in to stay with them.But they kept him back, saying, Do not go, for evening is near, the day is almost gone. And he went in with them.
Luke 24:30And it came to pass, as he sat at table with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and broke, and gave to them.And it came to pass as he was at table with them, having taken the bread, he blessed, and having broken it, gave it to them.And when he was seated with them at table, he took the bread, and said words of blessing and, making division of it, he gave it to them.
Luke 24:31And their eyes were opened, and they knew him: and he vanished out of their sight.And their eyes were opened, and they recognised him. And he disappeared from them.And then their eyes were open, and they had knowledge of him, but he went from their view.
Luke 24:32And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?And they said to one another, Was not our heart burning in us as he spoke to us on the way, [and] as he opened the scriptures to us?And they said to one another, Were not our hearts burning in us while he was talking to us on the way, making clear to us the holy Writings?
Luke 24:33And they rose the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven assembled, and them that were with them,And rising up the same hour, they returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven, and those with them, gathered together,And that very hour they got up and went back to Jerusalem, where the eleven and the others had come together.
Luke 24:34Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.saying, The Lord is indeed risen and has appeared to Simon.And they said to them, The Lord has truly come back to life again, and Simon has seen him.
Luke 24:35And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known to them in breaking of bread.And they related what [had happened] on the way, and how he was made known to them in the breaking of bread.And they gave an account of the things which had taken place on the way, and how, when he gave them bread, they had knowledge of him.
Luke 24:36And as they were thus speaking, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith to them, Peace be to you.And as they were saying these things, he himself stood in their midst, and says to them, Peace [be] unto you.And while they were saying these things, he himself was among them, and said to them, Peace be with you!
Luke 24:37But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.But they, being confounded and being frightened, supposed they beheld a spirit.But they were full of fear, being of the opinion that they were seeing a spirit.
Luke 24:38And he said to them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?And he said to them, Why are ye troubled? and why are thoughts rising in your hearts?And he said to them, Why are you troubled, and why are your hearts full of doubt?
Luke 24:39Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.behold my hands and my feet, that it is *I* myself. Handle me and see, for a spirit has not flesh and bones as ye see me having.See; my hands and my feet: it is I myself; put your hands on me and make certain; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have.
Luke 24:40And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet.And having said this he shewed them his hands and his feet.And when he had said this, he let them see his hands and his feet.
Luke 24:41And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said to them, Have ye here any thing for food?But while they yet did not believe for joy, and were wondering, he said to them, Have ye anything here to eat?And because, for joy and wonder, they were still in doubt, he said to them, Have you any food here?
Luke 24:42And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and a honey-comb.And they gave him part of a broiled fish and of a honeycomb;And they gave him a bit of cooked fish.
Luke 24:43And he took it, and ate before them.and he took it and ate before them.And before their eyes he took a meal.
Luke 24:44And he said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.And he said to them, These [are] the words which I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all that is written concerning me in the law of Moses and prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.And he said to them, These are the words which I said to you when I was still with you, how it was necessary for all the things which are in the writings of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms about me, to be put into effect.
Luke 24:45Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,Then he opened their understanding to understand the scriptures,Then he made the holy Writings clear to their minds.
Luke 24:46And said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:and said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer, and to rise from among the dead the third day;And he said to them, So it is in the Writings that the Christ would undergo death, and come back to life again on the third day;
Luke 24:47And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations beginning at Jerusalem.And that teaching about a change of heart and forgiveness of sins is to be given to Jerusalem first and to all nations in his name.
Luke 24:48And ye are witnesses of these things.And *ye* are witnesses of these things.You are witnesses of these things.
Luke 24:49And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye are endued with power from on high.And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but do ye remain in the city till ye be clothed with power from on high.And now I will send to you what my father has undertaken to give you, but do not go from the town, till the power from heaven comes to you.
Luke 24:50And he led them out as far as to Bethany: and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.And he led them out as far as Bethany, and having lifted up his hands, he blessed them.And he took them out till they were near Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he gave them a blessing.
Luke 24:51And it came to pass, while he was blessing them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.And it came to pass as he was blessing them, he was separated from them and was carried up into heaven.And while he was doing so, he went from them and was taken up into heaven.
Luke 24:52And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:And *they*, having done him homage, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,And they gave him worship and went back to Jerusalem with great joy.
Luke 24:53And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God.And they were in the Temple at all times, giving praise to God.
