Luke 15:1 | Then drew near to him all the publicans and sinners to hear him. | And all the tax-gatherers and the sinners were coming near to him to hear him; | Now the publicans and sinners drew near unto him to hear him. |
Luke 15:2 | And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. | and the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This [man] receives sinners and eats with them. | And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying: This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. |
Luke 15:3 | And he spoke this parable to them, saying, | And he spoke to them this parable, saying, | And he spoke to them this parable, saying: |
Luke 15:4 | What man of you having a hundred sheep, if he loseth one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he findeth it? | What man of you having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness and go after that which is lost, until he find it? | What man of you that hath an hundred sheep: and if he shall lose one of them, doth he not leave the ninety-nine in the desert, and go after that which was lost, until he find it? |
Luke 15:5 | And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. | and having found it, he lays it upon his own shoulders, rejoicing; | And when he hath found it, lay it upon his shoulders, rejoicing: |
Luke 15:6 | And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. | and being come to the house, calls together the friends and the neighbours, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep. | And coming home, call together his friends and neighbours, saying to them: Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost? |
Luke 15:7 | I say to you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, who need no repentance. | I say unto you, that thus there shall be joy in heaven for one repenting sinner, [more] than for ninety and nine righteous who have no need of repentance. | I say to you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven upon one sinner that doth penance, more than upon ninety-nine just who need not penance. |
Luke 15:8 | Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she loseth one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she findeth it? | Or, what woman having ten drachmas, if she lose one drachma, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek carefully till she find it? | Or what woman having ten groats; if she lose one groat, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she find it? |
Luke 15:9 | And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbors together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. | and having found it she calls together the friends and neighbours, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost. | And when she hath found it, call together her friends and neighbours, saying: Rejoice with me, because I have found the groat which I had lost. |
Luke 15:10 | Likewise, I say to you, There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. | Thus, I say unto you, there is joy before the angels of God for one repenting sinner. | So I say to you, there shall be joy before the angels of God upon one sinner doing penance. |
Luke 15:11 | And he said, A certain man had two sons: | And he said, A certain man had two sons; | And he said: A certain man had two sons: |
Luke 15:12 | And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided to them his living. | and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give to me the share of the property that falls [to me]. And he divided to them what he was possessed of. | And the younger of them said to his father: Father, give me the portion of substance that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his substance. |
Luke 15:13 | And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. | And after not many days the younger son gathering all together went away into a country a long way off, and there dissipated his property, living in debauchery. | And not many days after, the younger son, gathering all together, went abroad into a far country: and there wasted his substance, living riotously. |
Luke 15:14 | And when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land; and he began to be in want. | But when he had spent all there arose a violent famine throughout that country, and he began to be in want. | And after he had spent all, there came a mighty famine in that country; and he began to be in want. |
Luke 15:15 | And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. | And he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. | And he went and cleaved to one of the citizens of that country. And he sent him into his farm to feed swine. |
Luke 15:16 | And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat; and no man gave to him. | And he longed to fill his belly with the husks which the swine were eating; and no one gave to him. | And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks the swine did eat; and no man gave unto him. |
Luke 15:17 | And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father have bread enough and to spare, and I am perishing with hunger! | And coming to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have abundance of bread, and *I* perish here by famine. | And returning to himself, he said: How many hired servants in my father's house abound with bread, and I here perish with hunger? |
Luke 15:18 | I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, | I will rise up and go to my father, and I will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee; | I will arise, and will go to my father, and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee: |
Luke 15:19 | And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. | I am no longer worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. | I am not worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. |
Luke 15:20 | And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. | And he rose up and went to his own father. But while he was yet a long way off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell upon his neck, and covered him with kisses. | And rising up he came to his father. And when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and running to him fell upon his neck, and kissed him. |
Luke 15:21 | And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. | And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee; I am no longer worthy to be called thy son. | And the son said to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, I am not now worthy to be called thy son. |
Luke 15:22 | But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: | But the father said to his bondmen, Bring out the best robe and clothe him in [it], and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet; | And the father said to his servants: Bring forth quickly the first robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: |
Luke 15:23 | And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: | and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry: | And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it, and let us eat and make merry: |
Luke 15:24 | For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. | for this my son was dead and has come to life, was lost and has been found. And they began to make merry. | Because this my son was dead, and is come to life again: was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. |
Luke 15:25 | Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. | And his elder son was in the field; and as, coming [up], he drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. | Now his elder son was in the field, and when he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing: |

Luke 15:28 | And he was angry, and would not go in; therefore his father came out, and entreated him. | But he became angry and would not go in. And his father went out and besought him. | And he was angry, and would not go in. His father therefore coming out began to entreat him. |
Luke 15:29 | And he answering, said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither have I at any time transgressed thy commandment; and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: | But he answering said to his father, Behold, so many years I serve thee, and never have I transgressed a commandment of thine; and to me hast thou never given a kid that I might make merry with my friends: | And he answering, said to his father: Behold, for so many years do I serve thee, and I have never transgressed thy commandment, and yet thou hast never given me a kid to make merry with my friends: |
Luke 15:30 | But as soon as this thy son had come, who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. | but when this thy son, who has devoured thy substance with harlots, is come, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. | But as soon as this thy son is come, who hath devoured his substance with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. |
Luke 15:31 | And he said to him, Son, thou art ever with me: and all that I have is thine. | But he said to him, Child, *thou* art ever with me, and all that is mine is thine. | But he said to him: Son, thou art always with me, and all I have is thine. |
Luke 15:32 | It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found. | But it was right to make merry and rejoice, because this thy brother was dead and has come to life again, and was lost and has been found. | But it was fit that we should make merry and be glad, for this thy brother was dead and is come to life again; he was lost, and is found. |
