Acts 21:1And it came to pass, that after we were separated from them, and had lanched, we came with a straight course to Coos, and the day following to Rhodes, and from thence to Patara:And when, having got away from them, we at last sailed away, we came by a direct course to Cos, and on the morrow to Rhodes, and thence to Patara.When, at last, we had torn ourselves away and had set sail, we ran in a straight course to Cos; the next day to Rhodes, and from there to Patara.
Acts 21:2And finding a ship sailing over to Phenicia, we went aboard, and set forth.And having found a ship passing over into Phoenicia, we went on board and sailed;Finding a ship bound for Phoenicia, we went on board and put to sea.
Acts 21:3Now when we had discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left hand, and sailed into Syria, and landed at Tyre: for there the ship was to unlade her burden.and having sighted Cyprus, and left it on the left hand, we sailed to Syria, and made the land at Tyre, for there the ship was to discharge her cargo.After sighting Cyprus and leaving that island on our left, we continued our voyage to Syria and put in at Tyre; for there the ship was to unload her cargo.
Acts 21:4And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.And having found out the disciples, we remained there seven days; who said to Paul by the Spirit not to go up to Jerusalem.Having searched for the disciples and found them, we stayed at Tyre for seven days; and, taught by the Spirit, they repeatedly urged Paul not to proceed to Jerusalem.
Acts 21:5And when we had accomplished those days, we departed, and proceeded on our way; and they all conducted us with wives and children, till we were out of the city; and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed.But when we had completed the days, we set out and took our journey, all of them accompanying us, with wives and children, till [we were] out of the city. And kneeling down upon the shore we prayed.When, however, our time was up, we left and went on our way, all the disciples and their wives and children coming to see us off. Then, after kneeling down on the beach and praying,
Acts 21:6And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship; and they returned home again.And having embraced one another, we went on board ship, and they returned home.we took leave of one another; and we went on board, while they returned home.
Acts 21:7And when we had finished our course from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.And we, having completed the voyage, arrived from Tyre at Ptolemais, and having saluted the brethren, we remained one day with them.As for us, our voyage was over when having sailed from Tyre we reached Ptolemais. here we inquired after the welfare of the brethren, and remained a day with them.
Acts 21:8And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came to Cesarea; and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven; and abode with him.And leaving on the morrow, we came to Caesarea; and entering into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was of the seven, we abode with him.On the morrow we left Ptolemais and went on to Caesarea, where we came to the house of Philip the Evangelist, who was one of the seven, and stayed with him.
Acts 21:9And the same man had four daughters, virgins, who prophesied.Now this man had four virgin daughters who prophesied.Now Philip had four unmarried daughters who were prophetesses;
Acts 21:10And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judea a certain prophet, named Agabus.And as we stayed there many days, a certain man, by name Agabus, a prophet, came down from Judaea,and during our somewhat lengthy stay a Prophet of the name of Agabus came down from Judaea.
Acts 21:11And when he had come to us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Spirit, So will the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and will deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.and coming to us and taking the girdle of Paul, and having bound his own hands and feet, said, Thus saith the Holy Spirit, The man whose this girdle is shall the Jews thus bind in Jerusalem, and deliver him up into the hands of [the] Gentiles.When he arrived he took Paul's loincloth, and bound his own feet and arms with it, and said, "Thus says the Holy Spirit, `So will the Jews in Jerusalem bind the owner of this loincloth, and will hand him over to the Gentiles.'"
Acts 21:12And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.And when we heard these things, both we and those of the place besought [him] not to go up to Jerusalem.As soon as we heard these words, both we and the brethren at Caesarea entreated Paul not to go up to Jerusalem.
Acts 21:13Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep, and to break my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.But Paul answered, What do ye, weeping and breaking my heart? for *I* am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.His reply was, "What can you mean by thus breaking my heart with your grief? Why, as for me, I am ready not only to go to Jerusalem and be put in chains, but even to die there for the sake of the Lord Jesus."
Acts 21:14And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.And when he would not be persuaded, we were silent, saying, The will of the Lord be done.So when he was not to be dissuaded, we ceased remonstrating with him and said, "The Lord's will be done!"
Acts 21:15And after those days we took up our furniture, and went up to Jerusalem.And after these days, having got our effects ready, we went up to Jerusalem.A few days afterwards we loaded our baggage-cattle and continued our journey to Jerusalem.
Acts 21:16There went with us also certain of the disciples of Cesarea, and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.And [some] of the disciples from Caesarea went with us, bringing [with them] a certain Mnason, a Cyprian, an old disciple, with whom we were to lodge.Some of the disciples from Caesarea also joined our party, and brought with them Mnason, a Cyprian, one of the early disciples, at whose house we were to lodge.
Acts 21:17And when we had come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.And when we arrived at Jerusalem the brethren gladly received us.At length we reached Jerusalem, and there the brethren gave us a hearty welcome.
Acts 21:18And the day following Paul went in with us to James: and all the elders were present.And on the morrow Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders came there.On the following day we went with Paul to call on James, and all the Elders of the Church came also.
Acts 21:19And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.And having saluted them, he related one by one the things which God had wrought among the nations by his ministry.After exchanging friendly greetings, Paul told in detail all that God had done among the Gentiles through his instrumentality.
Acts 21:20And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said to him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are who believe; and they are all zealous of the law:And they having heard [it] glorified God, and said to him, Thou seest, brother, how many myriads there are of the Jews who have believed, and all are zealous of the law.And they, when they had heard his statement, gave the glory to God. Then they said, "You see, brother, how many tens of thousands of Jews there are among those who have accepted the faith, and they are all zealous upholders of the Law.
Acts 21:21And they are informed concerning thee, that thou teachest all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying, That they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.And they have been informed concerning thee, that thou teachest all the Jews among the nations apostasy from Moses, saying that they should not circumcise their children, nor walk in the customs.Now what they have been repeatedly told about you is that you teach all the Jews among the Gentiles to abandon Moses, and that you forbid them to circumcise their children or observe old-established customs.
Acts 21:22What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come.What is it then? a multitude must necessarily come together, for they will hear that thou art come.What then ought you to do? They are sure to hear that you have come to Jerusalem;
Acts 21:23Do therefore this that we say to thee: we have four men who have a vow on them;This do therefore that we say to thee: We have four men who have a vow on them;so do this which we now tell you. We have four men here who have a vow resting on them.
Acts 21:24Take them, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things of which they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.take these and be purified with them, and pay their expenses, that they may have their heads shaved; and all will know that [of those things] of which they have been informed about thee nothing is [true]; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, keeping the law.Associate with these men and purify yourself with them, and pay their expenses so that they can shave their heads. Then everybody will know that there is no truth in these stories about you, but that in your own actions you yourself scrupulously obey the Law.
Acts 21:25As concerning the Gentiles who believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from lewdness.But concerning [those of] the nations who have believed, we have written, deciding that they should [observe no such thing, only to] keep themselves both from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication.But as for the Gentiles who have accepted the faith, we have communicated to them our decision that they are carefully to abstain from anything sacrificed to an idol, from blood, from what is strangled, and from fornication."
Acts 21:26Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them, entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification, until an offering should be offered for every one of them.Then Paul, taking the men, on the next day, having been purified, entered with them into the temple, signifying the time the days of the purification would be fulfilled, until the offering was offered for every one of them.So Paul associated with the men; and the next day, having purified himself with them, he went into the Temple, giving every one to understand that the days of their purification were finished, and there he remained until the sacrifice for each of them was offered.
Acts 21:27And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews who were from Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands on him,And when the seven days were nearly completed, the Jews from Asia, having seen him in the temple, set all the crowd in a tumult, and laid hands upon him,But, when the seven days were nearly over, the Jews from the province of Asia, having seen Paul in the Temple, set about rousing the fury of all the people against him.
Acts 21:28Crying out, Men of Israel, help. This is the man that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further, hath brought Greeks also into the temple; and hath polluted this holy place.crying, Israelites, help! this is the man who teaches all everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place, and has brought Greeks too into the temple, and profaned this holy place.They laid hands on him, crying out, "Men of Israel, help! help! This is the man who goes everywhere preaching to everybody against the Jewish people and the Law and this place. And besides, he has even brought Gentiles into the Temple and has desecrated this holy place."
Acts 21:29(For they had seen before with him in the city, Trophimus, an Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)For they had before seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.(For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, and imagined that Paul had brought him into the Temple.)
Acts 21:30And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took Paul and drew him out of the temple. And forthwith the doors were shut.And the whole city was moved, and there was a concourse of the people; and having laid hold on Paul they drew him out of the temple, and immediately the doors were shut.The excitement spread through the whole city, and the people rushed in crowds to the Temple, and there laid hold of Paul and began to drag him out; and the Temple gates were immediately closed.
Acts 21:31And as they went about to kill him, tidings came to the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.And as they were seeking to kill him, a representation came to the chiliarch of the band that the whole of Jerusalem was in a tumult;But while they were trying to kill Paul, word was taken up to the Tribune in command of the battalion, that all Jerusalem was in a ferment.
Acts 21:32Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down to them. And when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating Paul.who, taking with him immediately soldiers and centurions, ran down upon them. But they, seeing the chiliarch and the soldiers, ceased beating Paul.He instantly sent for a few soldiers and their officers, and came down among the people with all speed. At the sight of the Tribune and the troops they ceased beating Paul.
Acts 21:33Then the chief captain came near and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains: and inquired who he was, and what he had done.Then the chiliarch came up and laid hold upon him, and commanded [him] to be bound with two chains, and inquired who he might be, and what he had done.Then the Tribune, making his way to him, arrested him, and, having ordered him to be secured with two chains, proceeded to ask who he was and what he had been doing.
Acts 21:34And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle.And different persons cried some different thing in the crowd. But he, not being able to know the certainty on account of the uproar, commanded him to be brought into the fortress.Some of the crowd shouted one accusation against Paul and some another, until, as the uproar made it impossible for the truth to be ascertained with certainty, the Tribune ordered him to be brought into the barracks.
Acts 21:35And when he came upon the stairs, so it was that he was borne by the soldiers, for the violence of the people.But when he got upon the stairs it was so that he was borne by the soldiers on account of the violence of the crowd.When Paul was going up the steps, he had to be carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the mob;
Acts 21:36For the multitude of the people followed, crying, Away with him.For the multitude of the people followed, crying, Away with him.for the whole mass of the people pressed on in the rear, shouting, "Away with him!"
Acts 21:37And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said to the chief captain, May I speak to thee? Who said, Canst thou speak Greek?But as he was about to be led into the fortress, Paul says to the chiliarch, Is it allowed me to say something to thee? And he said, Dost thou know Greek?When he was about to be taken into the barracks, Paul said to the Tribune, "May I speak to you?" "Do you know Greek?" the Tribune asked.
Acts 21:38Art not thou that Egyptian, who before these days madest an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?Thou art not then that Egyptian who before these days raised a sedition and led out into the wilderness the four thousand men of the assassins?"Are you not the Egyptian who some years ago excited the riot of the 4,000 cut-throats, and led them out into the Desert?"
Acts 21:39But Paul said, I am a man who am a Jew of Tarsus, a city of Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and I beseech thee suffer me to speak to the people.But Paul said, *I* am a Jew of Tarsus, citizen of no insignificant city of Cilicia, and I beseech of thee, allow me to speak to the people."I am a Jew," replied Paul, "belonging to Tarsus in Cilicia, and am a citizen of no unimportant city. Give me leave, I pray you, to speak to the people."
Acts 21:40And when he had given him license, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand to the people. And when there was made entire silence, he spoke to them in the Hebrew language, saying,And when he had allowed him, Paul, standing on the stairs, beckoned with his hand to the people; and a great silence having been made, he addressed them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,So with his permission Paul stood on the steps and motioned with his hand to the people to be quiet; and when there was perfect silence he addressed them in Hebrew.
