Acts 23:1And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men, brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.And Paul looking upon the council, said: Men, brethren, I have conversed with all good conscience before God until this present day.And Paul having earnestly beheld the sanhedrim, said, `Men, brethren, I in all good conscience have lived to God unto this day;`
Acts 23:2And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him, to strike him on the mouth.And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to strike him on the mouth.and the chief priest Ananias commanded those standing by him to smite him on the mouth,
Acts 23:3Then said Paul to him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me according to the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?Then Paul said to him: God shall strike thee, thou whited wall. For sittest thou to judge me according to the law, and contrary to the law commandest me to be struck?then Paul said unto him, `God is about to smite thee, thou whitewashed wall, and thou thou dost sit judging me according to the law, and, violating law, dost order me to be smitten!`
Acts 23:4And they that stood by, said, Revilest thou God's high priest?And they that stood by said: Dost thou revile the high priest of God?And those who stood by said, `The chief priest of God dost thou revile?`
Acts 23:5Then said Paul, I knew not, brethren, that he is the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.And Paul said: I knew not, brethren, that he is the high priest. For it is written: Thou shalt not speak evil of the prince of thy people.and Paul said, `I did not know, brethren, that he is chief priest: for it hath been written, Of the ruler of thy people thou shalt not speak evil;`
Acts 23:6But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men, brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.And Paul knowing that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, cried out in the council: Men, brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of Pharisees: concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.and Paul having known that the one part are Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, cried out in the sanhedrim, `Men, brethren, I am a Pharisee son of a Pharisee concerning hope and rising again of dead men I am judged.`
Acts 23:7And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees; and the multitude was divided.And he having spoken this, there came a dissension of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees, and the crowd was divided,
Acts 23:8For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.for Sadducees, indeed, say there is no rising again, nor messenger, nor spirit, but Pharisees confess both.
Acts 23:9And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees' part arose, and contended, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.And there arose a great cry. And some of the Pharisees rising up, strove, saying: We find no evil in this man. What if a spirit hath spoken to him, or an angel?And there came a great cry, and the scribes of the Pharisees` part having arisen, were striving, saying, `No evil do we find in this man; and if a spirit spake to him, or a messenger, we may not fight against God;`
Acts 23:10And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul would have been pulled in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.And when there arose a great dissension, the tribune fearing lest Paul should be pulled in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.and a great dissension having come, the chief captain having been afraid lest Paul may be pulled to pieces by them, commanded the soldiery, having gone down, to take him by force out of the midst of them, and to bring [him] to the castle.
Acts 23:11And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified concerning me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear testimony also at Rome.And the night following the Lord standing by him, said: Be constant; for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.And on the following night, the Lord having stood by him, said, `Take courage, Paul, for as thou didst fully testify the things concerning me at Jerusalem, so it behoveth thee also at Rome to testify.`
Acts 23:12And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying, that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.And when day was come, some of the Jews gathered together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying, that they would neither eat, nor drink, till they killed Paul.And day having come, certain of the Jews having made a concourse, did anathematize themselves, saying neither to eat nor to drink till they may kill Paul;
Acts 23:13And they were more than forty who had made this conspiracy.And they were more than forty men that had made this conspiracy.and they were more than forty who made this conspiracy by oath,
Acts 23:14And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.Who came to the chief priests and the ancients, and said: We have bound ourselves under a great curse that we will eat nothing till we have slain Paul.who having come near to the chief priests and to the elders said, `With an anathema we did anathematize ourselves to taste nothing till we have killed Paul;
Acts 23:15Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain, that he bring him down to you to-morrow, as though ye would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, before he shall come near, are ready to kill him.Now therefore do you with the council signify to the tribune, that he bring him forth to you, as if you meant to know something more certain touching him. And we, before he come near, are ready to kill him.now, therefore, ye, signify ye to the chief captain, with the sanhedrim, that to-morrow he may bring him down unto you, as being about to know more exactly the things concerning him; and we, before his coming nigh, are ready to put him to death.`
Acts 23:16And when the son of Paul's sister heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.Which when Paul's sister's son had heard, of their lying in wait, he came and entered into the castle and told Paul.And the son of Paul`s sister having heard of the lying in wait, having gone and entered into the castle, told Paul,
Acts 23:17Then Paul called one of the centurions to him, and said, Bring this young man to the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.And Paul, calling to him one of the centurions, said: Bring this young man to the tribune, for he hath some thing to tell him.and Paul having called near one of the centurions, said, `This young man lead unto the chief captain, for he hath something to tell him.`
Acts 23:18So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me to him, and prayed me to bring this young man to thee, who hath something to say to thee.And he taking him, brought him to the tribune, and said: Paul, the prisoner, desired me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath some thing to say to thee.He indeed, then, having taken him, brought him unto the chief captain, and saith, `The prisoner Paul, having called me near, asked [me] this young man to bring unto thee, having something to say to thee.`
Acts 23:19Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?And the tribune taking him by the hand, went aside with him privately, and asked him: What is it that thou hast to tell me?And the chief captain having taken him by the hand, and having withdrawn by themselves, inquired, `What is that which thou hast to tell me?`
Acts 23:20And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee, that thou wouldst bring down Paul to-morrow into the council, as though they would inquire somewhat concerning him more perfectly.And he said: The Jews have agreed to desire thee, that thou wouldst bring forth Paul to morrow into the council, as if they meant to inquire some thing more certain touching him.and he said `The Jews agreed to request thee, that to-morrow to the sanhedrim thou mayest bring down Paul, as being about to enquire something more exactly concerning him;
Acts 23:21But do not thou yield to them: for there are of them who lie in wait for him more than forty men, who have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now they are ready, looking for a promise from thee.But do not thou give credit to them; for there lie in wait for him more than forty men of them, who have bound themselves by oath neither to eat, nor to drink, till they have killed him: and they are now ready, looking for a promise from thee.thou, therefore, mayest thou not yield to them, for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, who did anathematize themselves not to eat nor to drink till they kill him, and now they are ready, waiting for the promise from thee.`
Acts 23:22So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shown these things to me.The tribune therefore dismissed the young man, charging him that he should tell no man, that he had made known these things unto him.The chief captain, then, indeed, let the young man go, having charged [him] to tell no one, `that these things thou didst shew unto me;`
Acts 23:23And he called to him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Cesarea, and seventy horsemen, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;Then having called two centurions, he said to them: Make ready two hundred soldiers to go as far as Caesarea, and seventy horsemen, and two hundred spearmen for the third hour of the night:and having called near a certain two of the centurions, he said, `Make ready soldiers two hundred, that they may go on unto Caesarea, and horsemen seventy, and spearmen two hundred, from the third hour of the night;
Acts 23:24And provide for them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe to Felix the governor.And provide beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe to Felix the governor.beasts also provide, that, having set Paul on, they may bring him safe unto Felix the governor;`
Acts 23:25And he wrote a letter after this manner:(For he feared lest perhaps the Jews might take him away by force and kill him, and he should afterwards be slandered, as if he was to take money.) And he wrote a letter after this manner:he having written a letter after this description:
Acts 23:26Claudius Lysias, to the most excellent governor Felix, sendeth greeting.Claudius Lysias to the most excellent governor, Felix, greeting.`Claudius Lysias, to the most noble governor Felix, hail:
Acts 23:27This man was taken by the Jews, and would have been killed by them: then I came with a body of soldiers, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.This man being taken by the Jews, and ready to be killed by them, I rescued coming in with an army, understanding that he is a Roman:This man having been taken by the Jews, and being about to be killed by them having come with the soldiery, I rescued him, having learned that he is a Roman;
Acts 23:28And when I would have known the cause for which they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:And meaning to know the cause which they objected unto him, I brought him forth into their council.and, intending to know the cause for which they were accusing him, I brought him down to their sanhedrim,
Acts 23:29Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death, or of bonds.Whom I found to be accused concerning questions of their law; but having nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bands.whom I found accused concerning questions of their law, and having no accusation worthy of death or bonds;
Acts 23:30And when it was told to me that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent forthwith to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also, to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.And when I was told of ambushes that they had prepared for him, I sent him to thee, signifying also to his accusers to plead before thee. Farewell.and a plot having been intimated to me against this man about to be of the Jews at once I sent unto thee, having given command also to the accusers to say the things against him before thee; be strong.`
Acts 23:31Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.Then the soldiers, according as it was commanded them, taking Paul, brought him by night to Antipatris.Then, indeed, the soldiers according to that directed them, having taken up Paul, brought him through the night to Antipatris,
Acts 23:32On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:And the next day, leaving the horsemen to go with him, they returned to the castle.and on the morrow, having suffered the horsemen to go on with him, they returned to the castle;
Acts 23:33Who, when they came to Cesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.Who, when they were come to Caesarea, and had delivered the letter to the governor, did also present Paul before him.those having entered into Caesarea, and delivered the letter to the governor, did present also Paul to him.
Acts 23:34And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia,And when he had read it, and had asked of what province he was, and understood that he was of Cilicia;And the governor having read [it], and inquired of what province he is, and understood that [he is] from Cilicia;
Acts 23:35I will hear thee, said he, when thy accusers also have come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment-hall.I will hear thee, said he, when thy accusers come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.`I will hear thee said he when thine accusers also may have come;` he also commanded him to be kept in the praetorium of Herod.
