Hebrews 5:1For every high priest taken from among men, is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:For every High Priest is chosen from among men, and is appointed to act on behalf of men in matters relating to God, in order to offer both gifts and sin-offerings,For every high priest, being taken from among men, is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
Hebrews 5:2Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.and must be one who is able to bear patiently with the ignorant and erring, because he himself also is beset with infirmity.who can bear gently with the ignorant and erring, for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity;
Hebrews 5:3And by reason of this he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.And for this reason he is required to offer sin-offerings not only for the people but also for himself.and by reason thereof is bound, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
Hebrews 5:4And no man taketh this honor to himself, but he that is called by God, as was Aaron:And no one takes this honourable office upon himself, but only accepts it when called to it by God, as Aaron was.And no man taketh the honor unto himself, but when he is called of God, even as was Aaron.
Hebrews 5:5So also Christ glorified not himself to be made a high priest; but he that said to him, Thou art my Son, to-day have I begotten thee.So Christ also did not claim for Himself the honour of being made High Priest, but was appointed to it by Him who said to Him, "My Son art Thou: I have to-day become Thy Father;"So Christ also glorified not himself to be made a high priest, but he that spake unto him, Thou art my Son, This day have I begotten thee:
Hebrews 5:6As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.as also in another passage He says, "Thou art a priest for ever, belonging to the order of Melchizedek."as he saith also in another [place,] Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews 5:7Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears to him that was able to save him from death, and was heard, in that he feared;For Jesus during his earthly life offered up prayers and entreaties, crying aloud and weeping as He pleaded with Him who was able to bring Him in safety out of death, and He was delivered from the terror from which He shrank.Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,
Hebrews 5:8Though he was a Son, yet he learned obedience by the things which he suffered;Although He was God's Son, yet He learned obedience from the sufferings which He endured;though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered;
Hebrews 5:9And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation to all them that obey him;and so, having been made perfect, He became to all who obey Him the source and giver of eternal salvation.and having been made perfect, he became unto all them that obey him the author of eternal salvation;
Hebrews 5:10Called by God a high priest after the order of Melchisedec.For God Himself addresses Him as a High Priest for ever, belonging to the order of Melchizedek.named of God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews 5:11Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.Concerning Him we have much to say, and much that it would be difficult to make clear to you, since you have become so dull of apprehension.Of whom we have many things to say, and hard of interpretation, seeing ye are become dull of hearing.
Hebrews 5:12For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need of one to teach you again which are the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong food.For although, considering the long time you have been believers, you ought now to be teachers of others, you really need some one to teach you over again the very rudiments of the truths of God, and you have come to require milk instead of solid food.For when by reason of the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need again that some one teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food.
Hebrews 5:13For every one that useth milk, is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.By people who live on milk I mean those who are imperfectly acquainted with the teaching concerning righteousness.For every one that partaketh of milk is without experience of the word of righteousness; for he is a babe.
Hebrews 5:14But strong food belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.Such persons are mere babes. But solid food is for adults that is, for those who through constant practice have their spiritual faculties carefully trained to distinguish good from evil.But solid food is for fullgrown men, [even] those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern good and evil.
