John 6:1After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. After this Jesus went away across the Lake of Galilee (that is, the Lake of Tiberias). After these things Jesus went away beyond the sea of Galilee, [or] of Tiberias,
John 6:2And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he performed on them that were diseased.A vast multitude followed Him, because they witnessed the miracles on the sick which He was constantly performing.and a great crowd followed him, because they saw the signs which he wrought upon the sick.
John 6:3And Jesus went upon a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. Then Jesus went up the hill, and sat there with His disciples. And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there sat with his disciples:
John 6:4And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. The Jewish Festival, the Passover, was at hand.but the passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.
John 6:5When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come to him, he saith to Philip, Whence shall we buy bread that these may eat?And when He looked round and saw an immense crowd coming towards Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for all these people to eat?"Jesus then, lifting up his eyes and seeing that a great crowd is coming to him, says to Philip, Whence shall we buy loaves that these may eat?
John 6:6(And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.)He said this to put Philip to the test, for He Himself knew what He was going to do.But this he said trying him, for he knew what he was going to do.
John 6:7Philip answered him, Two hundred penny-worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them make take a little:"Seven pounds' worth of bread," replied Philip, "is not enough for them all to get even a scanty meal."Philip answered him, Loaves for two hundred denarii are not sufficient for them, that each may have some little [portion].
John 6:8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith to him,One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him,One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, says to him,
John 6:9There is a lad here, who hath five barley-loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?"There is a boy here with five barley loaves and a couple of fish: but what is that among so many?"There is a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fishes; but this, what is it for so many?
John 6:10And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. (Now there was much grass in the place.) So the men sat down in number about five thousand."Make the people sit down," said Jesus. The ground was covered with thick grass; so they sat down, the adult men numbering about 5,000.[And] Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place: the men therefore sat down, in number about five thousand.
John 6:11And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes, as much as they would. Then Jesus took the loaves, and after giving thanks He distributed them to those who were resting on the ground; and also the fish in like manner as much as they desired. And Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, distributed [them] to those that were set down; and in like manner of the small fishes as much as they would.
John 6:12When they were satisfied, he said to his disciples, Gather the fragments that remain, that nothing may be lost. When all were fully satisfied, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the broken portions that remain over, so that nothing be lost."And when they had been filled, he says to his disciples, Gather together the fragments which are over and above, that nothing may be lost.
John 6:13Therefore they gathered them, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley-loaves, which remained over and above to them that had eaten.Accordingly they gathered them up; and with the fragments of the five barley loaves the broken portions that remained over after they had done eating they filled twelve baskets. They gathered [them] therefore together, and filled twelve hand-baskets full of fragments of the five barley loaves, which were over and above to those that had eaten.
John 6:14Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus performed, said, This is truly that prophet that should come into the world.Thereupon the people, having seen the miracle He had performed, said, "This is indeed the Prophet who was to come into the world."The men therefore, having seen the sign which Jesus had done, said, This is truly the prophet which is coming into the world.
John 6:15When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again to a mountain himself alone.Perceiving, however, that they were about to come and carry Him off by force to make Him a king, Jesus withdrew again up the hill alone by Himself.Jesus therefore knowing that they were going to come and seize him, that they might make [him] king, departed again to the mountain himself alone.
John 6:16And when evening had now come, his disciples went down to the sea,When evening came on, His disciples went down to the Lake. But when evening was come, his disciples went down to the sea,
John 6:17And entered into a boat, and went over the sea towards Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them. There they got on board a boat, and pushed off to cross the Lake to Capernaum. By this time it had become dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them.and having gone on board ship, they went over the sea to Capernaum. And it had already become dark, and Jesus had not come to them,
John 6:18And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew. The Lake also was getting rough, because a strong wind was blowing.and the sea was agitated by a strong wind blowing.
John 6:19So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh to the boat: and they were afraid. When, however, they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the water and coming near the boat.Having rowed then about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they see Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the ship; and they were frightened.
John 6:20But he saith to them, It is I; be not afraid. They were terrified; but He called to them. "It is I," He said, "do not be afraid."But he says to them, It is I: be not afraid.
John 6:21Then they willingly received him into the boat: and immediately the boat was at the land whither they were going. Then they were willing to take Him on board; and in a moment the boat reached the shore at the point to which they were going. They were willing therefore to receive him into the ship; and immediately the ship was at the land to which they went.
John 6:22The day following, when the people who stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, save that one into which his disciples had entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples had gone away alone;Next morning the crowd who were still standing about on the other side of the Lake found that there had been but one small boat there, and they had seen that Jesus did not go on board with His disciples, but that His disciples went away without Him.On the morrow the crowd which stood on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little ship there except that into which his disciples had got, and that Jesus had not gone with his disciples into the ship, but [that] his disciples had gone away alone;
John 6:23(Yet there came other boats from Tiberias nigh to the place where they ate bread, after the Lord had given thanks:)Yet a number of small boats came from Tiberias to the neighbourhood of the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks.(but other little ships out of Tiberias came near to the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks;)
John 6:24When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. When however the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, they themselves also took boats and came to Capernaum to look for Jesus.when therefore the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, *they* got into the ships, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
John 6:25And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? So when they had crossed the Lake and had found Him, they asked Him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?"And having found him the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when art thou arrived here?
John 6:26Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were satisfied."In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that you are searching for me not because you have seen miracles, but because you ate the loaves and had a hearty meal.Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me not because ye have seen signs, but because ye have eaten of the loaves and been filled.
John 6:27Labor not for the food which perisheth, but for that food which endureth to everlasting life, which the Son of man will give to you: for him hath God the Father sealed.Bestow your pains not on the food which perishes, but on the food that remains unto the Life of the Ages that food which will be the Son of Man's gift to you; for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal."Work not [for] the food which perishes, but [for] the food which abides unto life eternal, which the Son of man shall give to you; for him has the Father sealed, [even] God.
John 6:28Then said they to him, What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?"What are we to do," they asked, "in order to carry out the things that God requires?"They said therefore to him, What should we do that we may work the works of God?
John 6:29Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent."This," replied Jesus, "is above all the thing that God requires that you should be believers in Him whom He has sent."Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom *he* has sent.
John 6:30They said therefore to him, What sign showest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?"What miracle then," they asked, "do you perform for us to see and become believers in you? What do you *do*?They said therefore to him, What sign then doest thou that we may see and believe thee? what dost thou work?
John 6:31Our fathers ate manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.Our forefathers ate the manna in the Desert, as it is written, `He gave them bread out of Heaven to eat'."Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.
John 6:32Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven."In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that Moses did not give you the bread out of Heaven, but my Father is giving you the bread the true bread out of Heaven.Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, [It is] not Moses that has given you the bread out of heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.
John 6:33For the bread of God is he who cometh down from heaven, and giveth life to the world. For God's bread is that which comes down out of Heaven and gives Life to the world."For the bread of God is he who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.
John 6:34Then said they to him, Lord, evermore give us this bread."Sir," they said, "always give us that bread."They said therefore to him, Lord, ever give to us this bread.
John 6:35And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me, shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me, shall never thirst."I am the bread of Life," replied Jesus; "he who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never, never thirst.[And] Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes on me shall never thirst at any time.
John 6:36But I said to you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.But it is as I have said to you: you have seen me and yet you do not believe. But I have said to you, that ye have also seen me and do not believe.
John 6:37All that the Father giveth me, shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, I will in no wise reject.Every one whom the Father gives me will come to me, and him who comes to me I will never on any account drive away. All that the Father gives me shall come to me, and him that comes to me I will not at all cast out.
John 6:38For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me.For I have left Heaven and have come down to earth not to seek my own pleasure, but to do the will of Him who sent me.For I am come down from heaven, not that I should do *my* will, but the will of him that has sent me.
John 6:39And this is the Father's will who hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me, I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.And this is the will of Him who sent me, that of all that He has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it to life on the last day.And this is the will of him that has sent me, that of all that he has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up in the last day.
John 6:40And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one who seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.For this is my Father's will, that every one who fixes his gaze on the Son of God and believes in Him should have the Life of the Ages, and I will raise him to life on the last day."For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son, and believes on him, should have life eternal; and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:41The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. Now the Jews began to find fault about Him because of His claiming to be the bread which came down out of Heaven. The Jews therefore murmured about him, because he said, I am the bread which has come down out of heaven.
John 6:42And they said, Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? They kept asking, "Is not this man Joseph's son? Is he not Jesus, whose father and mother we know? What does he mean by now saying, `I have come down out of Heaven'?"And they said, Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then does *he* say, I am come down out of heaven?
John 6:43Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves."Do not thus find fault among yourselves," replied Jesus;Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves.
John 6:44No man can come to me, except the Father who hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day."no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; then I will raise him to life on the last day.No one can come to me except the Father who has sent me draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day.
John 6:45It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught from God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned from the Father, cometh to me.It stands written in the Prophets, `And they shall all of them be taught by God'. Every one who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to me.It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every one that has heard from the Father [himself], and has learned [of him], comes to me;
John 6:46Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he who is from God, he hath seen the Father. No one has ever seen the Father except Him who is from God. He has seen the Father.not that any one has seen the Father, except he who is of God, he has seen the Father.
John 6:47Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life."In most solemn truth I tell you that he who believes has the Life of the Ages.Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes [on me] has life eternal.
John 6:48I am that bread of life.I am the bread of Life.I am the bread of life.
John 6:49Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and are dead.Your forefathers ate the manna in the Desert, and they died.Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and died.
John 6:50This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat of it, and not die. Here is the bread that comes down out of Heaven that a man may eat it and not die. This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.
John 6:51I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man shall eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.I am the living bread come down out of Heaven. If a man eats this bread, he shall live for ever. Moreover the bread which I will give is my flesh given for the life of the world."I am the living bread which has come down out of heaven: if any one shall have eaten of this bread he shall live for ever; but the bread withal which I shall give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
John 6:52The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? This led to an angry debate among the Jews. "How can this man," they argued, "give us his flesh to eat?"The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can he give us this flesh to eat?
John 6:53Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you."In most solemn truth I tell you," said Jesus, "that unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no Life in you.Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye shall have eaten the flesh of the Son of man, and drunk his blood, ye have no life in yourselves.
John 6:54Whoever eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has the Life of the Ages, and I will raise him up on the last day.He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I will raise him up at the last day:
John 6:55For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.for my flesh is truly food and my blood is truly drink.
John 6:56He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in union with me, and I remain in union with him.He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in me and I in him.
John 6:57As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.As the ever-living Father has sent me, and I live because of the Father, so also he who eats me will live because of me.As the living Father has sent me and I live on account of the Father, *he* also who eats me shall live also on account of me.
John 6:58This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers ate manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. This is the bread which came down out of Heaven; it is unlike that which your forefathers ate for they ate and yet died. He who eats this bread shall live for ever."This is the bread which has come down out of heaven. Not as the fathers ate and died: he that eats this bread shall live for ever.
John 6:59These things he said in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.Jesus said all this in the synagogue while teaching at Capernaum. These things he said in [the] synagogue, teaching in Capernaum.
John 6:60Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it?Many therefore of His disciples, when they heard it, said, "This is hard to accept. Who can listen to such teaching?"Many therefore of his disciples having heard [it] said, This word is hard; who can hear it?
John 6:61When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said to them, Doth this offend you? But, knowing in Himself that His disciples were dissatisfied about it, Jesus asked them,But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmur concerning this, said to them, Does this offend you?
John 6:62What if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?"Does this seem incredible to you? What then if you were to see the Son of Man ascending again where He was before? If then ye see the Son of man ascending up where he was before?
John 6:63It is the spirit that reviveth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak to you, they are spirit, and they are life.It is the spirit which gives Life. The flesh confers no benefit whatever. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and are Life.It is the Spirit which quickens, the flesh profits nothing: the words which I have spoken unto you are spirit and are life.
John 6:64But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who he was that would betray him.But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would deliver him up.
John 6:65And he said, Therefore I said to you, that no man can come to me, except it were given to him by my Father. So He added, "That is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it be granted him by the Father."And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no one can come to me unless it be given to him from the Father.
John 6:66From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.Thereupon many of His disciples left Him and went away, and no longer associated with Him.From that [time] many of his disciples went away back and walked no more with him.
John 6:67Then said Jesus to the twelve, Will ye also go away?Jesus therefore appealed to the Twelve. "Will you go also?" He asked.Jesus therefore said to the twelve, Will ye also go away?
John 6:68Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life."Master," replied Simon Peter, "to whom shall we go? Your teachings tell us of the Life of the Ages.Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast words of life eternal;
John 6:69And we believe, and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.And we have come to believe and know that *you* are indeed the Holy One of God."and we have believed and known that thou art the holy one of God.
John 6:70Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?"Did not I choose you the Twelve?" said Jesus, "and even of you one is a devil."Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you the twelve? and of you one is a devil.
John 6:71He spoke of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for it was he that was to betray him, being one of the twelve. He alluded to Judas, the son of Simon the Iscariot. For he it was who, though one of the Twelve, was afterwards to betray Him.Now he spoke of Judas [the son] of Simon, Iscariote, for he [it was who] should deliver him up, being one of the twelve.
