Philemon 1:1Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellow-laborer,Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother: To Philemon our dearly-loved fellow labourerPaul, prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timotheus the brother, to Philemon the beloved and our fellow-workman,
Philemon 1:2And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thy house:and to our sister Apphia and our comrade Archippus as well as to the Church in your house.and to the sister Apphia and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the assembly which [is] in thine house.
Philemon 1:3Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.May grace be granted to you all, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and [the] Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:4I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,I give continual thanks to my God while making mention of you, my brother, in my prayers,I thank my God, always making mention of thee at my prayers,
Philemon 1:5Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all saints;because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have towards the Lord Jesus and which you manifest towards all God's people;hearing of thy love and the faith which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints,
Philemon 1:6That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.praying as I do, that their participation in your faith may result in others fully recognizing all the right affection that is in us toward Christ.in such sort that thy participation in the faith should become operative in the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in us towards Christ [Jesus].
Philemon 1:7For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.For I have found great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of God's people have been, and are, refreshed through you, my brother.For we have great thankfulness and encouragement through thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
Philemon 1:8Wherefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient.Therefore, though I might with Christ's authority speak very freely and order you to do what is fitting,Wherefore having much boldness in Christ to enjoin thee what is fitting,
Philemon 1:9Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.it is for love's sake that instead of that although I am none other than Paul the aged, and am now also a prisoner for Christ Jesus,for love's sake I rather exhort, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also prisoner of Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:10I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:I entreat you on behalf of my own child whose father I have become while in my chains I mean Onesimus.I exhort thee for *my* child, whom I have begotten in [my] bonds, Onesimus,
Philemon 1:11Who in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:Formerly he was useless to you, but now true to his name he is of great use to you and to me.once unserviceable to thee, but now serviceable to thee and to me:
Philemon 1:12Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, my own bowels:I am sending him back to you, though in so doing I send part of myself.whom I have sent back to thee: [but do *thou* receive] him, that is, *my* bowels:
Philemon 1:13Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered to me in the bonds of the gospel:It was my wish to keep him at my side for him to attend to my wants, as your representative, during my imprisonment for the Good News.whom *I* was desirous of keeping with myself, that for thee he might minister to me in the bonds of the glad tidings;
Philemon 1:14But without thy mind I would do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.Only I wished to do nothing without your consent, so that his kind action of yours might not be done under pressure, but might be a voluntary one.but I have wished to do nothing without thy mind, that thy good might not be as of necessity but of willingness:
Philemon 1:15For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldst receive him for ever;For perhaps it was for this reason he was parted from you for a time, that you might receive him back wholly and for ever yours;for perhaps for this reason he has been separated [from thee] for a time, that thou mightest possess him fully for ever;
Philemon 1:16Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more to thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?no longer as a slave, but as something better than a slave a brother peculiarly dear to me, and even dearer to you, both as a servant and as a fellow Christian.not any longer as a bondman, but above a bondman, a beloved brother, specially to me, and how much rather to thee, both in [the] flesh and in [the] Lord?
Philemon 1:17If thou accountest me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.If therefore you regard me as a comrade, receive him as if he were I myself.If therefore thou holdest me to be a partner [with thee], receive him as me;
Philemon 1:18If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee aught, put that on my account;And if he was ever dishonest or is in your debt, debit me with the amount.but if he have wronged thee anything or owe anything [to thee], put this to my account.
Philemon 1:19I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will repay it: although I do not say to thee that thou owest to me even thy own self besides.I Paul write this with my own hand I will pay you in full. (I say nothing of the fact that you owe me even your own self.)*I* Paul have written [it] with mine own hand; *I* will repay [it]: that I say not to thee that thou owest even thine own self also to me.
Philemon 1:20Yes, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.Yes, brother, do me this favour for the Lord's sake. Refresh my heart in Christ.Yea, brother, *I* would have profit of *thee* in [the] Lord: refresh my bowels in Christ.
Philemon 1:21Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote to thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.I write to you in the full confidence that you will meet my wishes, for I know you will do even more than I say.Being confident of thine obedience, I have written to thee, knowing that thou wilt do even more than I say.
Philemon 1:22But at the same time prepare me also a lodging; for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given to you.And at the same time provide accommodation for me; for I hope that through your prayers I shall be permitted to come to you.But withal prepare me also a lodging; for I hope that I shall be granted to you through your prayers.
Philemon 1:23There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;Greetings to you, my brother, from Epaphras my fellow prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus;Epaphras salutes thee, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;
Philemon 1:24Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellow-laborers.and from Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workmen.
Philemon 1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with the spirit of every one of you.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with your spirit.
