Matthew 17:1And after six days, Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them upon a high mountain apart.Six day later, Jesus took with Him Peter and the brothers James and John, and brought them up a high mountain to a solitary place.And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
Matthew 17:2And he was transfigured before them: and his face shone as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.There in their presence His form underwent a change; His face shone like the sun, and His raiment became as white as the light.And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
Matthew 17:3And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking with him.And suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them conversing with Him.And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
Matthew 17:4Then answered Peter, and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.Then Peter said to Jesus, "Master, we are thankful to you that we are here. If you approve, I will put up three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
Matthew 17:5While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him.He was still speaking when a luminous cloud spread over them; and a voice was heard from within the cloud, which said, "This is My Son dearly beloved, in whom is My delight. Listen to Him."While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
Matthew 17:6And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were in great fear.On hearing this voice, the disciples fell on their faces and were filled with terror.And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
Matthew 17:7And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.But Jesus came and touched them, and said, "Rouse yourselves and have no fear."And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
Matthew 17:8And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.So they looked up, and saw no one but Jesus.And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
Matthew 17:9And as they were descending the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be raised again from the dead.As they were descending the mountain, Jesus laid a command upon them. "Tell no one," He said, "of the sight you have seen till the Son of Man has risen from among the dead."And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
Matthew 17:10And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes, that Elijah must first come?"Why then," asked the disciples, "do the Scribes say that Elijah must first come?"And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
Matthew 17:11And Jesus answered and said to them, Elijah truly will first come, and restore all things:"Elijah was indeed to come," He replied, "and would reform everything.And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
Matthew 17:12But I say to you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done to him whatever they pleased: likewise will also the Son of man suffer by them.But I tell you that he has already come, and they did not recognize him, but dealt with him as they chose. And before long the Son of Man will be treated by them in a similar way."But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
Matthew 17:13Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them concerning John the Baptist.Then it dawned upon the disciples that it was John the Baptist about whom He had spoken to them.Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
Matthew 17:14And when they had come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man kneeling down to him, and saying,When they had returned to the people, there came to Him a man who fell on his knees before Him and besought Him.And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
Matthew 17:15Lord, have mercy on my son; for he is lunatic, and grievously distressed; for often he falleth into the fire, and often into the water."Sir," he said, "have pity on my son, for he is an epileptic and is very ill. Often he falls into the fire and often into the water.Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
Matthew 17:16And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.I have brought him to your disciples, and they have not been able to cure him."And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
Matthew 17:17Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me."O unbelieving and perverse generation!" replied Jesus; "how long shall I be with you? how long shall I endure you? Bring him to me."Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
Matthew 17:18And Jesus rebuked the demon, and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.Then Jesus reprimanded the demon, and it came out and left him; and the boy was cured from that moment.And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
Matthew 17:19Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and asked Him, "Why could not we expel the demon?"Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
Matthew 17:20And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say to you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard-seed, ye shall say to this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you."Because your faith is so small," He replied; "for I solemnly declare to you that if you have faith like a mustard-seed, you shall say to this mountain, `Remove from this place to that,' and it will remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Matthew 17:21However, this kind goeth not out, but by prayer and fasting.But an evil spirit of this kind is only driven out by prayer and fasting."Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Matthew 17:22And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man will be betrayed into the hands of men:As they were travelling about in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men;And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
Matthew 17:23And they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised again: And they were exceedingly grieved.they will put Him to death, but on the third day He will be raised to life again." And they were exceedingly distressed.And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.
Matthew 17:24And when they had come to Capernaum, they that received tribute-money, came to Peter, and said, Doth not your Master pay tribute?After their arrival at Capernaum the collectors of the half-shekel came and asked Peter, "Does not your Teacher pay the half-shekel?"And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
Matthew 17:25He saith, Yes. And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? from whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? from their own children, or from strangers?"Yes," he replied, and then went into the house. But before he spoke a word Jesus said, "What think you, Simon? From whom do this world's kings receive customs or capitation tax? from their own children, or from others?"He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
Matthew 17:26Peter saith to him, From strangers. Jesus saith to him, Then are the children free."From others," he replied. "Then the children go free," said Jesus.Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
Matthew 17:27Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take the fish that first cometh up: and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: take that, and give to them for me and thee."However, lest we cause them to sin, go and throw a hook into the Lake, and take the first fish that comes up. When you open its mouth, you will find a shekel in it: bring that coin and give it to them for yourself and me."Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
