| Romans 7:1 | Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law) that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? | Brethren, do you not know for I am writing to people acquainted with the Law that it is during our lifetime that we are subject to the Law? | Or don't you know, brothers (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives? |
| Romans 7:2 | For the woman who hath a husband, is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband is dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. | A wife, for instance, whose husband is living is bound to him by the Law; but if her husband dies the law that bound her to him has now no hold over her. | For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband. |
| Romans 7:3 | So then, if while her husband liveth, she is married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband is dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. | This accounts for the fact that if during her husband's life she lives with another man, she will be stigmatized as an adulteress; but that if her husband is dead she is no longer under the old prohibition, and even though she marries again, she is not an adulteress. | So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man. |

| Romans 7:5 | For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit to death: | For whilst we were under the thraldom of our earthly natures, sinful passions made sinful by the Law were always being aroused to action in our bodily faculties that they might yield fruit to death. | For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit to death. |

However, I wouldn't have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn't have known coveting, unless the law had said, "You shall not covet." |
