Genesis 23:1And Sarah was a hundred and twenty-seven years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.Sarah lived one hundred twenty-seven years. These were the years of Sarah's life.And the life of Sarah was a hundred and twenty-seven years: [these were] the years of the life of Sarah.
Genesis 23:2And Sarah died in Kirjath-arba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: And Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.Sarah died in Kiriath-arba (the same is Hebron), in the land of Canaan. Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.And Sarah died in Kirjath-Arba: that is Hebron, in the land of Canaan. And Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
Genesis 23:3And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying,Abraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke to the children of Heth, saying,And Abraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying,
Genesis 23:4I am a stranger and a sojourner with you; give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight."I am a stranger and a sojourner with you. Give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight."I am a stranger and a sojourner with you; give me a possession of a sepulchre with you, that I may bury my dead from before me.
Genesis 23:5And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,The children of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,And the sons of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,
Genesis 23:6Hear us, my lord; thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchers bury thy dead: none of us will withhold from thee his sepulcher, but that thou mayest bury thy dead."Hear us, my lord. You are a prince of God among us. In the choice of our tombs bury your dead. None of us will withhold from you his tomb, but that you may bury your dead."Hear us, my lord: thou art a prince of God among us: in the choicest of our sepulchres bury thy dead: none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre for burying thy dead.
Genesis 23:7And Abraham stood up and bowed himself to the people of the land, to the children of Heth.Abraham rose up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.And Abraham rose up, and bowed down to the people of the land, to the sons of Heth,
Genesis 23:8And he communed with them, saying, If it is your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,He talked with them, saying, "If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,and spoke to them, saying, If it be your will that I should bury my dead from before me, hear me, and entreat for me Ephron the son of Zohar,
Genesis 23:9That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me, for a possession of a burying-place among you.that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field. For the full price let him give it to me in the midst of you for a possession of a burying-place."that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which is his, which is at the end of his field; for the full money let him give it to me amongst you for a possession of a sepulchre.
Genesis 23:10And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth. And Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, of all that entered the gates of his city, saying,Now Ephron was sitting in the midst of the children of Heth. Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, even of all who went in at the gate of his city, saying,And Ephron was dwelling among the sons of Heth. And Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham, in the ears of the sons of Heth, [even] of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,
Genesis 23:11Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I to thee, and the cave that is in it, I give it to thee; in the presence of the sons of my people I give it to thee: bury thy dead."No, my lord, hear me. I give you the field, and I give you the cave that is in it. In the presence of the children of my people I give it to you. Bury your dead."No, my lord: hear me. The field give I thee; and the cave that is in it, to thee I give it; before the eyes of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.
Genesis 23:12And Abraham bowed himself before the people of the land.Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land.And Abraham bowed down before the people of the land;
Genesis 23:13And he spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field: take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.He spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, "But if you will, please hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me, and I will bury my dead there."and he spoke to Ephron, in the ears of the people of the land, saying, But if only thou wouldst listen to me, I give the money for the field: take [it] of me, and I will bury my dead there.
Genesis 23:14And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,
Genesis 23:15My lord, hearken to me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead."My lord, listen to me. What is a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver between me and you? Therefore bury your dead."My lord, hearken to me. A field of four hundred shekels of silver, what is that between me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.
Genesis 23:16And Abraham hearkened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.Abraham listened to Ephron. Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the audience of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the current merchants' standard.And Abraham hearkened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the money that he had named in the ears of the sons of Heth four hundred shekels of silver, current with the merchant.
Genesis 23:17And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field and the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sureSo the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the border of it round about, were made sureSo the field of Ephron, which was at Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave that was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all its borders round about,
Genesis 23:18To Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that entered the gate of his city.to Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.were assured to Abraham for a possession before the eyes of the sons of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.
Genesis 23:19And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre (the same is Hebron), in the land of Canaan.And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field at Machpelah, opposite to Mamre: that is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.
Genesis 23:20And the field, and the cave that is in it were made sure to Abraham for a possession of a burying-place, by the sons of Heth.The field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure to Abraham for a possession of a burying place by the children of Heth.And the field and the cave that was in it were assured to Abraham for a possession of a sepulchre by the sons of Heth.
