Romans 5:1 | Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ: | Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; | Therefore having been justified on the principle of faith, we have peace towards God through our Lord Jesus Christ; |
Romans 5:2 | By whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. | through whom we also have our access by faith into this grace in which we stand. We rejoice in hope of the glory of God. | by whom we have also access by faith into this favour in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God. |
Romans 5:3 | And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also; knowing that tribulation worketh patience; | Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering works perseverance; | And not only [that], but we also boast in tribulations, knowing that tribulation works endurance; |
Romans 5:4 | And patience, experience; and experience, hope: | and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: | and endurance, experience; and experience, hope; |
Romans 5:5 | And hope maketh not ashamed, because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts, by the Holy Spirit which is given to us. | and hope doesn't disappoint us, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given to us. | and hope does not make ashamed, because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by [the] Holy Spirit which has been given to us: |
Romans 5:6 | For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. | For while we were yet weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. | for we being still without strength, in [the] due time Christ has died for [the] ungodly. |
Romans 5:7 | For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet perhaps for a good man some would even dare to die. | For one will hardly die for a righteous man. For perhaps for a righteous person someone would even dare to die. | For scarcely for [the] just [man] will one die, for perhaps for [the] good [man] some one might also dare to die; |
Romans 5:8 | But God commendeth his love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. | But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. | but God commends *his* love to us, in that, we being still sinners, Christ has died for us. |
Romans 5:9 | Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. | Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from God's wrath through him. | Much rather therefore, having been now justified in [the power of] his blood, we shall be saved by him from wrath. |
Romans 5:10 | For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son; much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. | For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we will be saved by his life. | For if, being enemies, we have been reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much rather, having been reconciled, we shall be saved in [the power of] his life. |
Romans 5:11 | And not only so, but we also joy in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. | Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. | And not only [that], but [we are] making our boast in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom now we have received the reconciliation. |
Romans 5:12 | Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. | Therefore, as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin; and so death passed to all men, because all sinned. | For this [cause], even as by one man sin entered into the world, and by sin death; and thus death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: |
Romans 5:13 | For until the law, sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. | For until the law, sin was in the world; but sin is not charged when there is no law. | (for until law sin was in [the] world; but sin is not put to account when there is no law; |
Romans 5:14 | Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. | Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those whose sins weren't like Adam's disobedience, who is a foreshadowing of him who was to come. | but death reigned from Adam until Moses, even upon those who had not sinned in the likeness of Adam's transgression, who is [the] figure of him to come. |
Romans 5:15 | But not as the offense, so also is the free gift. For if through the offense of one many are dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded to many. | But the free gift isn't like the trespass. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many. | But [shall] not the act of favour [be] as the offence? For if by the offence of one the many have died, much rather has the grace of God, and the free gift in grace, which [is] by the one man Jesus Christ, abounded unto the many. |
Romans 5:16 | And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift. For the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offenses to justification. | The gift is not as through one who sinned: for the judgment came by one to condemnation, but the free gift came of many trespasses to justification. | And [shall] not as by one that has sinned [be] the gift? For the judgment [was] of one to condemnation, but the act of favour, of many offences unto justification. |
Romans 5:17 | For if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much more they who receive abundance of grace, and of the gift of righteousness, shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. | For if by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; so much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ. | For if by the offence of the one death reigned by the one, much rather shall those who receive the abundance of grace, and of the free gift of righteousness, reign in life by the one Jesus Christ:) |
Romans 5:18 | Therefore, as by the offense of one, judgment came upon all men to condemnation, even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men to justification of life. | So then as through one trespass, all men were condemned; even so through one act of righteousness, all men were justified to life. | so then as [it was] by one offence towards all men to condemnation, so by one righteousness towards all men for justification of life. |
Romans 5:19 | For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. | For as through the one man's disobedience many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one will many be made righteous. | For as indeed by the disobedience of the one man the many have been constituted sinners, so also by the obedience of the one the many will be constituted righteous. |
Romans 5:20 | Moreover the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: | The law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace did abound more exceedingly; | But law came in, in order that the offence might abound; but where sin abounded grace has overabounded, |
Romans 5:21 | That as sin hath reigned to death, even so might grace reign through righteousness to eternal life, by Jesus Christ our Lord. | that as sin reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. | in order that, even as sin has reigned in [the power of] death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
