Romans 9:1I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me testimony in the Holy Spirit,Truth I say in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing testimony with me in the Holy Spirit,I say what is true in Christ, and not what is false, my mind giving witness with me in the Holy Spirit,
Romans 9:2That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.that I have great grief and unceasing pain in my heartThat I am full of sorrow and pain without end.
Romans 9:3For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ, for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:for I was wishing, I myself, to be anathema from the Christ for my brethren, my kindred, according to the flesh,For I have a desire to take on myself the curse for my brothers, my family in the flesh:
Romans 9:4Who are Israelites; to whom pertain the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;who are Israelites, whose [is] the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the lawgiving, and the service, and the promises,Who are Israelites: who have the place of sons, and the glory, and the agreements with God, and the giving of the law, and the worship, and the hope offered by God:
Romans 9:5Whose are the fathers, and from whom according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.whose [are] the fathers, and of whom [is] the Christ, according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed to the ages. Amen.Whose are the fathers, and of whom came Christ in the flesh, who is over all, God, to whom be blessing for ever. So be it.
Romans 9:6Not as though the word of God hath taken no effect. For they are not all Israel, who are descendants from Israel? And it is not possible that the word of God hath failed; for not all who [are] of Israel are these Israel; But it is not as if the word of God was without effect. For they are not all Israel, who are of Israel:
Romans 9:7Neither because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.nor because they are seed of Abraham [are] all children, but `in Isaac shall a seed be called to thee;`And they are not all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, In Isaac will your seed be named.
Romans 9:8That is, They who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.that is, the children of the flesh these [are] not children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for seed; That is, it is not the children of the flesh, but the children of God's undertaking, who are named as the seed.
Romans 9:9For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sarah shall have a son.for the word of promise [is] this; `According to this time I will come, and there shall be to Sarah a son.`For this is the word of God's undertaking, At this time will I come, and Sarah will have a son.
Romans 9:10And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac,And not only [so], but also Rebecca, having conceived by one Isaac our fatherAnd not only so, but Rebecca being about to have a child by our father Isaac
Romans 9:11(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God, according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth)(for they being not yet born, neither having done anything good or evil, that the purpose of God, according to choice, might remain; not of works, but of Him who is calling,) it was said to herBefore the children had come into existence, or had done anything good or bad, in order that God's purpose and his selection might be effected, not by works, but by him whose purpose it is,
Romans 9:12It was said to her, The elder shall serve the younger.`The greater shall serve the less;`It was said to her, The older will be the servant of the younger.
Romans 9:13As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.according as it hath been written, `Jacob I did love, and Esau I did hate.`Even as it is said, I had love for Jacob, but for Esau I had hate.
Romans 9:14What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? By no means. What, then, shall we say? unrighteousness [is] with God? let it not be!What may we say then? is God not upright? let it not be said.
Romans 9:15For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.for to Moses He saith, `I will do kindness to whom I do kindness, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion;`For he says to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and pity on whom I will have pity.
Romans 9:16So then, it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy.so, then not of him who is willing, nor of him who is running, but of God who is doing kindness:So then, it is not by the desire or by the attempt of man, but by the mercy of God.
Romans 9:17For the scripture saith to Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might show my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.for the Writing saith to Pharaoh `For this very thing I did raise thee up, that I might shew in thee My power, and that My name might be declared in all the land;`For the holy Writings say to Pharaoh, For this same purpose did I put you on high, so that I might make my power seen in you, and that there might be knowledge of my name through all the earth.
Romans 9:18Therefore he hath mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.so, then, to whom He willeth, He doth kindness, and to whom He willeth, He doth harden. So then, at his pleasure he has mercy on a man, and at his pleasure he makes the heart hard.
Romans 9:19Thou wilt say then to me, Why doth he yet find fault? for who hath resisted his will?Thou wilt say, then, to me, `Why yet doth He find fault? for His counsel who hath resisted?`But you will say to me, Why does he still make us responsible? who is able to go against his purpose?
Romans 9:20No, but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?nay, but, O man, who art thou that art answering again to God? shall the thing formed say to Him who did form [it], Why me didst thou make thus? But, O man, who are you, to make answer against God? May the thing which is made say to him who made it, Why did you make me so?
Romans 9:21Hath not the potter power over the clay of the same lump to make one vessel to honor, and another to dishonor?hath not the potter authority over the clay, out of the same lump to make the one vessel to honour, and the one to dishonour?Or has not the potter the right to make out of one part of his earth a vessel for honour, and out of another a vessel for shame?
Romans 9:22What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much long-suffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:And if God, willing to shew the wrath and to make known His power, did endure, in much long suffering, vessels of wrath fitted for destruction,What if God, desiring to let his wrath and his power be seen, for a long time put up with the vessels of wrath which were ready for destruction:
Romans 9:23And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had before prepared for glory, and that He might make known the riches of His glory on vessels of kindness, that He before prepared for glory, whom also He did call usAnd to make clear the wealth of his glory to vessels of mercy, which he had before made ready for glory,
Romans 9:24Even us whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles.not only out of Jews, but also out of nations,Even us, who were marked out by him, not only from the Jews, but from the Gentiles?
Romans 9:25As he saith also in Hosea, I will call them My people, who were not my people; and her Beloved, who was not beloved.as also in Hosea He saith, `I will call what [is] not My people My people; and her not beloved Beloved,As he says in Hosea, They will be named my people who were not my people, and she will be loved who was not loved.
Romans 9:26And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said to them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called, The children of the living God.and it shall be in the place where it was said to them, Ye [are] not My people; there they shall be called sons of the living God.`And in the place where it was said to them, You are not my people, there they will be named the sons of the living God.
Romans 9:27Isaiah also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:And Isaiah doth cry concerning Israel, `If the number of the sons of Israel may be as the sand of the sea, the remnant shall be saved; And Isaiah says about Israel, Even if the number of the children of Israel is as the sand of the sea, only a small part will get salvation:
Romans 9:28For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.for a matter He is finishing, and is cutting short in righteousness, because a matter cut short will the Lord do upon the land. For the Lord will give effect to his word on the earth, putting an end to it and cutting it short.
Romans 9:29And as Isaiah said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom, and been made like Gomorrah.and according as Isaiah saith before, `Except the Lord of Sabaoth did leave to us a seed, as Sodom we had become, and as Gomorrah we had been made like.`And, as Isaiah had said before, If the Lord of armies had not given us a seed, we would have been like Sodom and Gomorrah.
Romans 9:30What shall we say then? That the Gentiles who followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith:What, then, shall we say? that nations who are not pursuing righteousness did attain to righteousness, and righteousness that [is] of faith,What then may we say? That the nations who did not go after righteousness have got righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith:
Romans 9:31But Israel, who followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.and Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, at a law of righteousness did not arrive; But Israel, going after a law of righteousness, did not get it.
Romans 9:32Why? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling-stone;wherefore? because not by faith, but as by works of law; for they did stumble at the stone of stumbling,Why? Because they were not searching for it by faith, but by works. They came up against the stone which was in the way;
Romans 9:33As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumbling-stone, and rock of offense: and whoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.according as it hath been written, `Lo, I place in Sion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence; and every one who is believing thereon shall not be ashamed.`As it is said, See, I am putting in Zion a stone causing a fall, and a rock in the way: but he who has faith in him will not be put to shame.
