John 18:1When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Kedron, where was a garden, into which he entered, and his disciples.These things having said, Jesus went forth with his disciples beyond the brook of Kedron, where was a garden, into which he entered, himself and his disciples,Jesus, having said these things, went out with his disciples beyond the torrent Cedron, where was a garden, into which he entered, he and his disciples.
John 18:2And Judas also, who betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus often resorted thither with his disciples.and Judas also, who delivered him up, had known the place, because many times did Jesus assemble there with his disciples.And Judas also, who delivered him up, knew the place, because Jesus was often there, in company with his disciples.
John 18:3Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns, and torches, and weapons.Judas, therefore, having taken the band and officers out of the chief priests and Pharisees, doth come thither with torches and lamps, and weapons;Judas therefore, having got the band, and officers of the chief priests and Pharisees, comes there with lanterns and torches and weapons.
John 18:4Jesus therefore, knowing all things that were coming upon him, went forth, and said to them, Whom seek ye?Jesus, therefore, knowing all things that are coming upon him, having gone forth, said to them, `Whom do ye seek?`Jesus therefore, knowing all things that were coming upon him, went forth and said to them, Whom seek ye?
John 18:5They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith to them, I am he. And Judas also, who betrayed him, stood with them.they answered him, `Jesus the Nazarene;` Jesus saith to them, `I am [he];` and Judas who delivered him up was standing with them;They answered him, Jesus the Nazaraean. Jesus says to them, I am [he]. And Judas also, who delivered him up, stood with them.
John 18:6As soon then as he had said to them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.when, therefore, he said to them `I am [he],` they went away backward, and fell to the ground.When therefore he said to them, I am [he], they went away backward and fell to the ground.
John 18:7Then he asked them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.Again, therefore, he questioned them, `Whom do ye seek?` and they said, `Jesus the Nazarene;`He demanded of them therefore again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus the Nazaraean.
John 18:8Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: If therefore ye seek me, let these go away:Jesus answered, `I said to you that I am [he]; if, then, me ye seek, suffer these to go away;`Jesus answered, I told you that I am [he]: if therefore ye seek me, let these go away;
John 18:9That the saying might be fulfilled which he spoke, Of them whom thou gavest to me, I have lost none.that the word might be fulfilled that he said `Those whom Thou hast given to me, I did not lose of them even one.`that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, [As to] those whom thou hast given me, I have not lost one of them.
John 18:10Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.Simon Peter, therefore, having a sword, drew it, and struck the chief priest`s servant, and cut off his right ear and the name of the servant was MalchusSimon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, and smote the bondman of the high priest and cut off his right ear; and the bondman's name was Malchus.
John 18:11Then said Jesus to Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?Jesus, therefore, said to Peter, `Put the sword into the sheath; the cup that the Father hath given to me, may I not drink it?`Jesus therefore said to Peter, Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given me, shall I not drink it?
John 18:12Then the band, and the captain, and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,The band, therefore, and the captain, and the officers of the Jews, took hold on Jesus, and bound him,The band therefore, and the chiliarch, and the officers of the Jews, took Jesus and bound him:
John 18:13And led him away to Annas first, (for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was the high priest that same year.)and they led him away to Annas first, for he was father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was chief priest of that year,and they led him away to Annas first; for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
John 18:14Now Caiaphas was he who gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.and Caiaphas was he who gave counsel to the Jews, that it is good for one man to perish for the people.But it was Caiaphas who counselled the Jews that it was better that one man should perish for the people.
John 18:15And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. That disciple was known to the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.And following Jesus was Simon Peter, and the other disciple, and that disciple was known to the chief priest, and he entered with Jesus to the hall of the chief priest,Now Simon Peter followed Jesus, and the other disciple. But that disciple was known to the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest;
John 18:16But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple who was known to the high priest, and spoke to her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.and Peter was standing at the door without, therefore went forth the other disciple who was known to the chief priest, and he spake to the female keeping the door, and he brought in Peter.but Peter stood at the door without. The other disciple therefore, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the porteress and brought in Peter.
John 18:17Then saith the damsel that kept the door to Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not.Then said the maid keeping the door to Peter, `Art thou also of the disciples of this man?` he saith, `I am not;`The maid therefore, who was porteress, says to Peter, Art thou also of the disciples of this man? He says, I am not.
John 18:18And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; (for it was cold) and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.and the servants and the officers were standing, having made a fire of coals, because it was cold, and they were warming themselves, and Peter was standing with them, and warming himself.But the bondmen and officers, having made a fire of coals (for it was cold), stood and warmed themselves; and Peter was standing with them and warming himself.
John 18:19The high priest then asked Jesus concerning his disciples, and concerning his doctrine.The chief priests, therefore, questioned Jesus concerning his disciples, and concerning his teaching;The high priest therefore demanded of Jesus concerning his disciples and concerning his doctrine.
John 18:20Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.Jesus answered him, `I spake freely to the world, I did always teach in a synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews do always come together; and in secret I spake nothing;Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I taught always in [the] synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews come together, and in secret I have spoken nothing.
John 18:21Why dost thou ask me? ask them who heard me, what I have said to them: behold, they know what I have said.why me dost thou question? question those having heard what I spake to them; lo, these have known what I said.`Why demandest thou of me? Demand of those who have heard, what I have spoken to them; behold, they know what I have said.
John 18:22And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers who stood by, struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?And he having said these things, one of the officers standing by did give Jesus a slap, saying, `Thus dost thou answer the chief priest?`But as he said these things, one of the officers who stood by gave a blow on the face to Jesus, saying, Answerest thou the high priest thus?
John 18:23Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear testimony of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?Jesus answered him, `If I spake ill, testify concerning the ill; and if well, why me dost thou smite?`Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why smitest thou me?
John 18:24(Now Annas had sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.)Annas then sent him bound to Caiaphas the chief priest.Annas [then] had sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
John 18:25And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore to him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.And Simon Peter was standing and warming himself, they said then to him, `Art thou also of his disciples?` he denied, and said, `I am not.`But Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, Art thou also of his disciples? He denied, and said, I am not.
John 18:26One of the servants of the high priest (being the kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off) saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?One of the servants of the chief priest, being kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, saith, `Did not I see thee in the garden with him?`One of the bondmen of the high priest, who was kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, says, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
John 18:27Peter then denied again, and immediately the cock crowed.again, therefore, Peter denied, and immediately a cock crew.Peter denied therefore again, and immediately [the] cock crew.
John 18:28Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment-hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.They led, therefore, Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium, and it was early, and they themselves did not enter into the praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but that they might eat the passover;They lead therefore Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium; and it was early morn. And *they* entered not into the praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but eat the passover.
John 18:29Pilate then went out to them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?Pilate, therefore, went forth unto them, and said, `What accusation do ye bring against this man?`Pilate therefore went out to them and said, What accusation do ye bring against this man?
John 18:30They answered and said to him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up to thee.they answered and said to him, `If he were not an evil doer, we had not delivered him to thee.`They answered and said to him, If this [man] were not an evildoer, we should not have delivered him up to thee.
John 18:31Then said Pilate to them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said to him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:Pilate, therefore, said to them, `Take ye him ye and according to your law judge him;` the Jews, therefore, said to him, `It is not lawful to us to put any one to death;`Pilate therefore said to them, Take him, ye, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said to him, It is not permitted to us to put any one to death;
John 18:32That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which he said, signifying by what death he was about to die.that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.
John 18:33Then Pilate entered into the judgment-hall again, and called Jesus, and said to him, Art thou the King of the Jews?Pilate, therefore, entered into the praetorium again, and called Jesus, and said to him, `Thou art the King of the Jews?`Pilate therefore entered again into the praetorium and called Jesus, and said to him, Thou art the king of the Jews?
John 18:34Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing from thyself, or did others tell it thee concerning me?Jesus answered him, `From thyself dost thou say this? or did others say it to thee about me?`Jesus answered [him], Dost thou say this of thyself, or have others said it to thee concerning me?
John 18:35Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thy own nation, and the chief priests, have delivered thee to me: What hast thou done?Pilate answered, `Am I a Jew? thy nation, and the chief priests did deliver thee up to me; what didst thou?`Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thy nation and the chief priests have delivered thee up to me: what hast thou done?
John 18:36Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.Jesus answered, `My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my officers had struggled that I might not be delivered up to Jews; but now my kingdom is not from hence.`Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my servants had fought that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but now my kingdom is not from hence.
John 18:37Pilate therefore said to him, Art thou a King then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a King. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.Pilate, therefore, said to him, `Art thou then a king?` Jesus answered, `Thou dost say [it]; because a king I am, I for this have been born, and for this I have come to the world, that I may testify to the truth; every one who is of the truth, doth hear my voice.`Pilate therefore said to him, Thou art then a king? Jesus answered, Thou sayest [it], that I am a king. I have been born for this, and for this I have come into the world, that I might bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.
John 18:38Pilate saith to him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and saith to them, I find in him no fault.Pilate saith to him, `What is truth?` and this having said, again he went forth unto the Jews, and saith to them, `I do find no fault in him;Pilate says to him, What is truth? And having said this he went out again to the Jews, and says to them, I find no fault whatever in him.
John 18:39But ye have a custom that I should release to you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release to you the King of the Jews?and ye have a custom that I shall release to you one in the passover; will ye, therefore, [that] I shall release to you the king of the Jews?`But ye have a custom that I release [some] one to you at the passover; will ye therefore that I release unto you the king of the Jews?
John 18:40Then they all cried again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.therefore they all cried out again, saying, `Not this one but Barabbas;` and Barabbas was a robber.They cried therefore again all, saying, Not this [man], but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
