Acts 10:1 | There was a certain man in Cesarea, called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, | And there was a certain man in Cesarea, by name Cornelius, a centurion from a band called Italian, | Now a Captain of the Italian Regiment, named Cornelius, was quartered at Caesarea. |
Acts 10:2 | A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, who gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always. | pious, and fearing God with all his house, doing also many kind acts to the people, and beseeching God always, | He was religious and God-fearing and so was every member of his household. He was also liberal in his charities to the people, and continually offered prayer to God. |
Acts 10:3 | He saw in a vision evidently, about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in to him, and saying to him, Cornelius. | he saw in a vision manifestly, as it were the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, `Cornelius;` | About three o'clock one afternoon he had a vision, and distinctly saw an angel of God enter his house, who called him by name, saying, "Cornelius!" |
Acts 10:4 | And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said to him, Thy prayers and thy alms are come up for a memorial before God. | and he having looked earnestly on him, and becoming afraid, said, `What is it, Lord?` And he said to him, `Thy prayers and thy kind acts came up for a memorial before God, | Looking steadily at him, and being much alarmed, he said, "What do you want, Sir?" "Your prayers and charities," he replied, "have gone up and have been recorded before God. |
Acts 10:5 | And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: | and now send men to Joppa, and send for a certain one Simon, who is surnamed Peter, | And now send to Jaffa and fetch Simon, surnamed Peter. |
Acts 10:6 | He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea-side: he will tell thee what thou oughtest to do. | this one doth lodge with a certain Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one shall speak to thee what it behoveth thee to do.` | He is staying as a guest with Simon, a tanner, who has a house close to the sea." |
Acts 10:7 | And when the angel who spoke to Cornelius had departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually; | And when the messenger who is speaking to Cornelius went away, having called two of his domestics, and a pious soldier of those waiting on him continually, | So when the angel who had been speaking to him was gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a God-fearing soldier who was in constant attendance on him, |
Acts 10:8 | And when he had declared all these things to them, he sent them to Joppa. | and having declared to them all things, he sent them to Joppa. | and, after telling them everything, he sent them to Jaffa. |
Acts 10:9 | On the morrow, as they were going on their journey, and drew nigh to the city, Peter went up upon the house-top to pray, about the sixth hour: | And on the morrow, as these are proceeding on the way, and are drawing nigh to the city, Peter went up upon the house-top to pray, about the sixth hour, | The next day, while they were still on their journey and were getting near the town, about noon Peter went up on the house-top to pray. |
Acts 10:10 | And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, | and he became very hungry, and wished to eat; and they making ready, there fell upon him a trance, | He had become unusually hungry and wished for food; but, while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance. |
Acts 10:11 | And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending to him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: | and he doth behold the heaven opened, and descending unto him a certain vessel, as a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down upon the earth, | The sky had opened to his view, and what seemed to be an enormous sail was descending, being let down to the earth by ropes at the four corners. |

Acts 10:13 | And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. | and there came a voice unto him: `Having risen, Peter, slay and eat.` | and a voice came to him which said, "Rise, Peter, kill and eat." |
Acts 10:14 | But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. | And Peter said, `Not so, Lord; because at no time did I eat anything common or unclean;` | "On no account, Lord," he replied; "for I have never yet eaten anything unholy and impure." |
Acts 10:15 | And the voice spoke to him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. | and [there is] a voice again a second time unto him: `What God did cleanse, thou, declare not thou common;` | Again a second time a voice was heard which said, "What God has purified, you must not regard as unholy." |
Acts 10:16 | This was done thrice: and the vessel was received again into heaven. | and this was done thrice, and again was the vessel received up to the heaven. | This was said three times, and immediately the sail was drawn up out of sight. |
Acts 10:17 | Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men who were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and were standing before the gate, | And as Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision that he saw might be, then, lo, the men who have been sent from Cornelius, having made inquiry for the house of Simon, stood at the gate, | While Peter was greatly perplexed as to the meaning of the vision which he had seen, just then the men sent by Cornelius, having by inquiry found out Simon's house, |
Acts 10:18 | And called, and asked whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, lodged there. | and having called, they were asking if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, doth lodge here? | had come to the door and had called the servant, and were asking, "Is Simon, surnamed Peter, staying here?" |
Acts 10:19 | While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said to him, Behold, three men seek thee. | And Peter thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, `Lo, three men do seek thee; | And Peter was still earnestly thinking over the vision, when the Spirit said to him, "Three men are now inquiring for you. |
Acts 10:20 | Arise therefore, and go down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them. | but having risen, go down and go on with them, nothing doubting, because I have sent them;` | Rise, go down, and go with them without any misgivings; for it is I who have sent them to you." |
Acts 10:21 | Then Peter went down to the men who were sent to him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause for which ye have come? | and Peter having come down unto the men who have been sent from Cornelius unto him, said, `Lo, I am he whom ye seek, what [is] the cause for which ye are present?` | So Peter went down and said to the men, "I am the Simon you are inquiring for. What is the reason of your coming?" |
Acts 10:22 | And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words from thee. | And they said, `Cornelius, a centurion, a man righteous and fearing God, well testified to, also, by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy messenger to send for thee, to his house, and to hear sayings from thee.` | Their reply was, "Cornelius, a Captain, an upright and God-fearing man, of whom the whole Jewish nation speaks well, has been divinely instructed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and listen to what you have to say." |
Acts 10:23 | Then he called them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him. | Having called them in, therefore, he lodged them, and on the morrow Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa went with him, | Upon hearing this, Peter invited them in, and gave them a lodging. The next day he set out with them, some of the brethren from Jaffa going with him, |
Acts 10:24 | And on the morrow they entered into Cesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends. | and on the morrow they did enter into Cesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kindred and near friends, | and the day after that they reached Caesarea. There Cornelius was awaiting their arrival, and had invited all his relatives and intimate friends to be present. |
Acts 10:25 | And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshiped him. | and as it came that Peter entered in, Cornelius having met him, having fallen at [his] feet, did bow before [him]; | When Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him, and threw himself at his feet to do him homage. |
Acts 10:26 | But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up: I myself also am a man. | and Peter raised him, saying, `Stand up; I also myself am a man;` | But Peter lifted him up. "Stand up," he said; "I myself also am but a man." |
Acts 10:27 | And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that had come together. | and talking with him he went in, and doth find many having come together. | So Peter went in and conversed with him, and found a large company assembled. |
Acts 10:28 | And he said to them, Ye know that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come to one of another nation; but God hath shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean. | And he said unto them, `Ye know how it is unlawful for a man, a Jew, to keep company with, or to come unto, one of another race, but to me God did shew to call no man common or unclean; | He said to them, "You know better than most that a Jew is strictly forbidden to associate with a Gentile or visit him; but God has taught me to call no one unholy or unclean. |
Acts 10:29 | Therefore I came to you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me? | therefore also without gainsaying I came, having been sent for; I ask, therefore, for what matter ye did send for me?` | So for this reason, when sent for, I came without raising any objection. I therefore ask why you sent for me." |
Acts 10:30 | And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing, | And Cornelius said, `Four days ago till this hour, I was fasting, and [at] the ninth hour praying in my house, and, lo, a man stood before me in bright clothing, | "Just at this hour, three days ago," replied Cornelius, "I was offering afternoon prayer in my house, when suddenly a man in shining raiment stood in front of me, |
Acts 10:31 | And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thy alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God. | and he said, Cornelius, thy prayer was heard, and thy kind acts were remembered before God; | who said, "`Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your charities have been put on record before God. |
Acts 10:32 | Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he lodgeth in the house of one Simon a tanner, by the sea-side: who, when he cometh, will speak to thee. | send, therefore, to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; this one doth lodge in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea, who having come, shall speak to thee; | Send therefore to Jaffa, and invite Simon, surnamed Peter, to come here. He is staying as a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner, close to the sea.' |
Acts 10:33 | Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou hast come. Now therefore we are all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee from God. | at once, therefore, I sent to thee; thou also didst do well, having come; now, therefore, are we all before God present to hear all things that have been commanded thee by God.` | "Immediately, therefore, I sent to you, and I thank you heartily for having come. That is why all of us are now assembled here in God's presence, to listen to what the Lord has commanded you to say." |
Acts 10:34 | Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, In truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: | And Peter having opened his mouth, said, `Of a truth, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons, | Then Peter began to speak. "I clearly see," he said, "that God makes no distinctions between one man and another; |
Acts 10:35 | But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. | but in every nation he who is fearing Him, and is working righteousness, is acceptable to Him; | but that in every nation those who fear Him and live good lives are acceptable to Him. |
Acts 10:36 | The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) | the word that he sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming good news peace through Jesus Christ (this one is Lord of all,) | The Message which He sent to the descendants of Israel, when He announced the Good News of peace through Jesus Christ He is Lord of all that Message you cannot but know; |
Acts 10:37 | That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; | ye ye have known; the word that came throughout all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the baptism that John preached; | the story, I mean, which has spread through the length and breadth of Judaea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism which John proclaimed. |
Acts 10:38 | That God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil; for God was with him. | Jesus who [is] from Nazareth how God did anoint him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the devil, because God was with him; | It tells how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, so that He went about everywhere doing acts of kindness, and curing all who were being continually oppressed by the Devil for God was with Jesus. |

Acts 10:46 | For they heard them speak in languages and magnify God. Then answered Peter, | for they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God. | For they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling the majesty of God. Then Peter said, |
Acts 10:47 | Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we? | Then answered Peter, `The water is any one able to forbid, that these may not be baptized, who the Holy Spirit did receive even as also we?` | "Can any one forbid the use of water, and object to these persons being baptized men who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?" |
Acts 10:48 | And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they requested him to tarry certain days. | he commanded them also to be baptized in the name of the Lord; then they besought him to remain certain days. | And he directed that they should be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they begged him to remain with them for a time. |
