John 1:1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. From the first he was the Word, and the Word was in relation with God and was God.
John 1:2He was in the beginning with God.The same was in the beginning with God. This Word was from the first in relation with God.
John 1:3All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing that exists came into being. All things were made through him; and without him was not anything made that hath been made. All things came into existence through him, and without him nothing was.
John 1:4In Him was Life, and that Life was the Light of men.In him was life; and the life was the light of men. What came into existence in him was life, and the life was the light of men.
John 1:5The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it.And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not. And the light goes on shining in the dark; it is not overcome by the dark.
John 1:6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
John 1:7He came as a witness, in order that he might give testimony concerning the Light so that all might believe through him.The same came for witness, that he might bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him. He came for witness, to give witness about the light, so that all men might have faith through him.
John 1:8He was not the Light, but he existed that he might give testimony concerning the Light. He was not the light, but [came] that he might bear witness of the light. He himself was not the light: he was sent to give witness about the light.
John 1:9The true Light was that which illumines every man by its coming into the world. There was the true light, [even the light] which lighteth every man, coming into the world. The true light, which gives light to every man, was then coming into the world.
John 1:10He was in the world, and the world came into existence through Him, and the world did not recognize Him.He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not. He was in the world, the world which came into being through him, but the world had no knowledge of him.
John 1:11He came to the things that were His own, and His own people gave Him no welcome. He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not. He came to the things which were his and his people did not take him to their hearts.
John 1:12But all who have received Him, to them that is, to those who trust in His name He has given the privilege of becoming children of God;But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: To all those who did so take him, however, he gave the right of becoming children of God that is, to those who had faith in his name:
John 1:13who were begotten as such not by human descent, nor through an impulse of their own nature, nor through the will of a human father, but from God.who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Whose birth was from God and not from blood, or from an impulse of the flesh and man's desire.
John 1:14And the Word came in the flesh, and lived for a time in our midst, so that we saw His glory the glory as of the Father's only Son, sent from His presence. He was full of grace and truth. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth. And so the Word became flesh and took a place among us for a time; and we saw his glory such glory as is given to an only son by his father saw it to be true and full of grace.
John 1:15John gave testimony concerning Him and cried aloud, saying, "This is He of whom I said, `He who is coming after me has been put before me,' for He was before me."John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me: for he was before me. John gave witness about him, crying, This is he of whom I said, He who is coming after me is put over me because he was in existence before me.
John 1:16For He it is from whose fulness we have all received, and grace upon grace. For of his fulness we all received, and grace for grace. From his full measure we have all been given grace on grace.
John 1:17For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. For the law was given through Moses; grace and the true way of life are ours through Jesus Christ.
John 1:18No human eye has ever seen God: the only Son, who is in the Father's bosom He has made Him known. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him]. No man has seen God at any time; the only Son, who is on the breast of the Father, he has made clear what God is.
John 1:19This also is John's testimony, when the Jews sent to him a deputation of Priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him who he was.And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent unto him from Jerusalem priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou? And this is the witness of John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to him with the question, Who are you?
John 1:20He avowed he did not conceal the truth, but avowed, "I am not the Christ."And he confessed, and denied not; and he confessed, I am not the Christ. He said quite openly and straightforwardly, I am not the Christ.
John 1:21"What then?" they inquired; "are you Elijah?" "I am not," he said. "Are you the Prophet?" "No," he answered. And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No. And they said to him, What then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you the prophet? And his answer was, I am not.
John 1:22So they pressed the question. "Who are you?" they said "that we may take an answer to those who sent us. What account do you give of yourself?"They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? So they said to him, Who are you then? We have to give some answer to those who sent us. What have you to say about yourself?
John 1:23"I am the voice," he replied, "of one crying aloud, `Make straight the Lord's way in the Desert,' fulfilling the words of the Prophet Isaiah."He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet. He said, I am the voice of one crying in the waste land, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.
John 1:24They were Pharisees who had been sent. And they had been sent from the Pharisees. Those who had been sent came from the Pharisees.
John 1:25Again they questioned him. "Why then do you baptize," they said, "if you are neither the Christ nor Elijah nor the Prophet?"And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet? And they put this question to him, saying, Why then are you giving baptism if you are not the Christ, or Elijah, or the prophet?
John 1:26"I baptize in water only," John answered, "but in your midst stands One whom you do not knowJohn answered them, saying, I baptize in water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not, John's answer was: I give baptism with water; but there is one among you of whom you have no knowledge;
John 1:27He who is to come after me, and whose sandal-strap I am not worthy to unfasten."[even] he that cometh after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose. It is he who is coming after me; I am not good enough to undo his shoes.
John 1:28This conversation took place at Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. These things took place at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was giving baptism.
John 1:29The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and exclaimed, "Look, that is the Lamb of God who is to take away the sin of the world! On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world! The day after, John sees Jesus coming to him and says, See, here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
John 1:30This is He about whom I said, `After me is to come One who has been put before me, because He was before me.'This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who is become before me: for he was before me. This is he of whom I said, One is coming after me who is put over me because he was in existence before me.
John 1:31I did not yet know Him; but that He may be openly shown to Israel is the reason why I have come baptizing in water."And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, for this cause came I baptizing in water. I myself had no knowledge of him, but I came giving baptism with water so that he might be seen openly by Israel.
John 1:32John also gave testimony by stating: "I have seen the Spirit coming down like a dove out of Heaven; and it remained upon Him.And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him. And John gave this witness, saying, I saw the Spirit coming down from heaven like a dove and resting on him.
John 1:33I did not yet know Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, "`The One on whom you see the Spirit coming down, and remaining, He it is who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.'And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said unto me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit. I had no knowledge who he was, but he who sent me to give baptism with water said to me, The one on whom you see the Spirit coming down and resting, it is he who gives baptism with the Holy Spirit.
John 1:34"This I have seen, and I have become a witness that He is the Son of God."And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God. This I saw myself and my witness is that he is the Son of God.
John 1:35Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples,Again on the morrow John was standing, and two of his disciples; The day after, John was there again with two of his disciples;
John 1:36when he saw Jesus passing by, and said, "Look! that is the Lamb of God!"and he looked upon Jesus as he walked, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God! And looking at Jesus while he was walking he said, See, there is the Lamb of God!
John 1:37The two disciples heard his exclamation, and they followed Jesus. And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. Hearing what he said, the two disciples went after Jesus.
John 1:38Then Jesus turned round, and seeing them following He asked them, "What is your wish?" "Rabbi," they replied `Rabbi' means `Teacher' "where are you staying?"And Jesus turned, and beheld them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? And they said unto him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), where abideth thou? And Jesus, turning round, saw them coming after him and said to them, What are you looking for? They said to him, Rabbi (which is to say, Master), where are you living?
John 1:39"Come and you shall see," He said. So they went and saw where He was staying, and they remained and spent that day with Him. It was then about ten o'clock in the morning. He saith unto them, Come, and ye shall see. They came therefore and saw where he abode; and they abode with him that day: it was about the tenth hour. +
John 1:40Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard John's exclamation and followed Jesus. One of the two that heard John [speak], and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He said to them, Come and see. They went with him then and saw where he was living; and they were with him all that day: it was then about the tenth hour of the day.
John 1:41He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah!" that is to say, the Anointed One.He findeth first his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah (which is, being interpreted, Christ). Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two men who, hearing what John said, went after Jesus.
John 1:42He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon, son of John: you shall be called Cephas" that is to say, Peter (or `Rock').He brought him unto Jesus. Jesus looked upon him, and said, Thou art Simon the son of John: thou shalt be called Cephas (which is by interpretation, Peter). Early in the morning he came across his brother and said to him, We have made discovery! It is the Messiah! (which is to say, the Christ).
John 1:43The next day, having decided to leave Bethany and go into Galilee, Jesus found Philip, and invited him to follow Him.On the morrow he was minded to go forth into Galilee, and he findeth Philip: and Jesus saith unto him, Follow me. And he took him to Jesus. Looking at him fixedly Jesus said, You are Simon, the son of John; your name will be Cephas (which is to say, Peter).
John 1:44(Now Philip came from Bethsaida, the same town as Andrew and Peter.)Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. The day after this, Jesus had a desire to go into Galilee. He came across Philip and said to him, Come and be my disciple.
John 1:45Then Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, "We have found him about whom Moses in the Law wrote, as well as the Prophets Jesus, the son of Joseph, a man of Nazareth."Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. Now Philip's town was Beth-saida, where Andrew and Peter came from.
John 1:46"Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" replied Nathanael. "Come and see," said Philip. And Nathanael said unto him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. Philip came across Nathanael and said to him, We have made a discovery! It is he of whom Moses, in the law, and the prophets were writing, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
John 1:47Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, and said of him, "Look! here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceitfulness!"Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! Nazareth! said Nathanael, Is it possible for any good to come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and see.
John 1:48"How do you know me?" Nathanael asked. "Before Philip called you," said Jesus, "when you were under the fig-tree I saw you."Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him and said of him, See, here is a true son of Israel in whom there is nothing false.
John 1:49"Rabbi," cried Nathanael, "you are the Son of God, you are Israel's King!"Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art King of Israel. Nathanael said to him, Where did you get knowledge of me? In answer Jesus said, Before Philip was talking with you, while you were still under the fig-tree, I saw you.
John 1:50"Because I said to you, `I saw you under the fig-tree,'" replied Jesus, "do you believe? You shall see greater things than that."Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee underneath the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. Nathanael said to him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are King of Israel!
John 1:51"I tell you all in most solemn truth," He added, "that you shall see Heaven opened wide, and God's angels going up, and coming down to the Son of Man."And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye shall see the heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. In answer Jesus said to him, You have faith because I said to you, I saw you under the fig-tree. You will see greater things than these.
