Mark 9:1He went on to say, "In solemn truth I tell you that some of those who are standing here will certainly not taste death till they have seen the Kingdom of God already come in power."And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There are some here of them that stand [by], who shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God come with power. And he said to them, Truly I say to you, There are some here who will have no taste of death till they see the kingdom of God come with power.
Mark 9:2Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter, James, and John, and brought them alone, apart from the rest, up a high mountain; and in their presence His appearance underwent a change. And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them; And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and made them go up with him into a high mountain by themselves: and he was changed in form before them:
Mark 9:3His garments also became dazzling with brilliant whiteness such whiteness as no bleaching on earth could give.and his garments became glistering, exceeding white, so as no fuller on earth can whiten them. And his clothing became shining, very white, as no cleaner on earth would make it.
Mark 9:4Moreover there appeared to them Elijah accompanied by Moses; and the two were conversing with Jesus,And there appeared unto them Elijah with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. And there came before them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
Mark 9:5when Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, we are thankful to you that we are here. Let us put up three tents one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."And Peter answereth and saith to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. And Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tents; one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
Mark 9:6For he knew not what to say: they were filled with such awe.For he knew not what to answer; for they became sore afraid. Because he was not certain what to say, for they were in great fear.
Mark 9:7Then there came a cloud spreading over them, and a voice issued from the cloud, "This is my Son, dearly loved: listen to Him."And there came a cloud overshadowing them: and there came a voice out of the cloud, This is my beloved Son: hear ye him. And a cloud came over them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my dearly loved Son, give ear to him.
Mark 9:8Instantly they looked round, and now they could no longer see any one, but themselves and Jesus. And suddenly looking round about, they saw no one any more, save Jesus only with themselves. And suddenly looking round about, they saw no one any longer, but Jesus only with themselves.
Mark 9:9As they were coming down from the mountain, He very strictly forbad them to tell any one what they had seen "until after the Son of Man has risen from among the dead."And as they were coming down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, save when the Son of man should have risen again from the dead. And while they were coming down from the mountain, he gave them orders not to give word to any man of the things they had seen, till the Son of man had come back from the dead.
Mark 9:10So they kept the matter to themselves, although frequently asking one another what was meant by the rising from the dead. And they kept the saying, questioning among themselves what the rising again from the dead should mean. And they kept the saying, questioning among themselves what the coming back from the dead might be.
Mark 9:11They also asked Him, "How is it that the Scribes say that Elijah must first come?"And they asked him, saying, [How is it] that the scribes say that Elijah must first come? And they put a question to him, saying, Why do the scribes say that Elijah has to come first?
Mark 9:12"Elijah," He replied, "does indeed come first and reforms everything; but how is it that it is written of the Son of Man that He will endure much suffering and be held in contempt? And he said unto them, Elijah indeed cometh first, and restoreth all things: and how is it written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be set at nought? And he said to them, Truly, Elijah does come first, and puts all things in order; and how is it said in the Writings that the Son of man will go through much sorrow and be made as nothing?
Mark 9:13Yet I tell you that not only has Elijah come, but they have also done to him whatever they chose, as the Scriptures say about him."But I say unto you, that Elijah is come, and they have also done unto him whatsoever they would, even as it is written of him. But I say to you that Elijah has come, and they have done to him whatever they were pleased to do, even as the Writings say about him.
Mark 9:14As they came to rejoin the disciples, they saw an immense crowd surrounding them and a party of Scribes disputing with them. And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great multitude about them, and scribes questioning with them. And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great mass of people about them, and scribes questioning them.
Mark 9:15Immediately the whole multitude on beholding Him were astonished and awe-struck, and yet they ran forward and greeted Him.And straightway all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him. And straight away all the people, when they saw him, were full of wonder, and running to him, gave him worship.
Mark 9:16"What is the subject you are discussing?" He asked them. And he asked them, What question ye with them? And he said, What are you questioning them about?
Mark 9:17"Rabbi," answered one of the crowd, "I have brought you my son. He has a dumb spirit in him;And one of the multitude answered him, Teacher, I brought unto thee my son, who hath a dumb spirit; And one of the number said to him in answer, Master, I came to you with my son, who has in him a spirit which takes away his power of talking;
Mark 9:18and wherever it comes upon him, it dashes him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth, and he is pining away. I begged your disciples to expel it, but they had not the power."and wheresoever it taketh him, it dasheth him down: and he foameth, and grindeth his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast it out; and they were not able. And wherever it takes him, it puts him down violently, streaming at the lips and twisted with pain; and his strength goes from him; and I made a request to your disciples to send it out, and they were not able.
Mark 9:19"O unbelieving generation!" replied Jesus; "how long must I be with you? how long must I have patience with you? Bring the boy to me."And he answereth them and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him unto me. And he said to them in answer, O generation without faith, how long will I have to be with you? how long will I put up with you? let him come to me.
Mark 9:20So they brought him to Jesus. And the spirit, when he saw Jesus, immediately threw the youth into convulsions, so that he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him grievously; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. And they took him to him: and when he saw him, the spirit in him straight away became violent; and he went down on the earth, rolling about and streaming at the lips.
Mark 9:21Then Jesus asked the father, "How long has he been like this?" "From early childhood," he said; And he asked his father, How long time is it since this hath come unto him? And he said, From a child. And Jesus questioning the father said, How long has he been like this? And he said, From a child.
Mark 9:22"and often it has thrown him into the fire or into pools of water to destroy him. But, if you possibly can, have pity on us and help us."And oft-times it hath cast him both into the fire and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us. And frequently it has sent him into the fire and into the water, for his destruction; but if you are able to do anything, have pity on us, and give us help.
Mark 9:23"`If I possibly can!'" replied Jesus; "why, everything is possible to him who believes."And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst! All things are possible to him that believeth. And Jesus said to him, If you are able! All things are possible to him who has faith.
Mark 9:24Immediately the father cried out, "I do believe: strengthen my weak faith."Straightway the father of the child cried out, and said, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. Straight away the father of the child gave a cry, saying, I have faith; make my feeble faith stronger.
Mark 9:25Then Jesus, seeing that an increasing crowd was running towards Him, rebuked the foul spirit, and said to it, "Dumb and deaf spirit, *I* command you, come out of him and never enter into him again."And when Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. And when Jesus saw that the people came running together, he gave orders to the unclean spirit, saying to him, You, spirit, who are the cause of his loss of voice and hearing, I say to you, come out of him, and never again go into him.
Mark 9:26So with a loud cry he threw the boy into fit after fit, and came out. The boy looked as if he were dead, so that most of them said he was dead; And having cried out, and torn him much, he came out: and [the boy] became as one dead; insomuch that the more part said, He is dead. And after crying out and shaking him violently, it came out: and the child became like one dead; so that most of them said, He is dead.
Mark 9:27but Jesus took his hand and raised him up, and he stood on his feet. But Jesus took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose. But Jesus took him by the hand, lifting him up; and he got up.
Mark 9:28After the return of Jesus to the house His disciples asked Him privately, "How is it that we could not expel the spirit?"And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, [How is it] that we could not cast it out? And when he had gone into the house, his disciples said to him privately, Why were we unable to send it out?
Mark 9:29"An evil spirit of this kind," He answered, "can only be driven out by prayer."And he said unto them, This kind can come out by nothing, save by prayer. And he said to them, Nothing will make this sort come out but prayer.
Mark 9:30Departing thence they passed through Galilee, and He was unwilling that any one should know it;And they went forth from thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it. And they went out from there, through Galilee; and it was his desire that no man might have knowledge of it;
Mark 9:31for He was teaching His disciples, and telling them, "The Son of Man is to be betrayed into the hands of men, and they will put Him to death; and after being put to death, in three days He will rise to life again."For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered up into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and when he is killed, after three days he shall rise again. For he was giving his disciples teaching, and saying to them, The Son of man is given up into the hands of men, and they will put him to death; and when he is dead, after three days he will come back from the dead.
Mark 9:32They, however, did not understand what He meant, and were afraid to question Him.But they understood not the saying, and were afraid to ask him. But the saying was not clear to them, and they were in fear of questioning him about it.
Mark 9:33So they came to Capernaum; and when in the house He asked them, "What were you arguing about on the way?"And they came to Capernaum: and when he was in the house he asked them, What were ye reasoning on the way? And they came to Capernaum: and when he was in the house, he put the question to them, What were you talking about on the way?
Mark 9:34But they remained silent; for on the way they had debated with one another who was the chief of them. But they held their peace: for they had disputed one with another on the way, who [was] the greatest. But they said nothing: because they had had an argument between themselves on the way, about who was the greatest.
Mark 9:35Then sitting down He called the Twelve, and said to them, "If any one wishes to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all."And he sat down, and called the twelve; and he saith unto them, If any man would be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all. And seating himself, he made the twelve come to him; and he said to them, If any man has the desire to be first, he will be last of all and servant of all.
Mark 9:36And taking a young child He made him stand in their midst, then threw His arms round him and said,And he took a little child, and set him in the midst of them: and taking him in his arms, he said unto them, And he took a little child, and put him in the middle of them; and taking him in his arms, he said to them,
Mark 9:37"Whoever for my sake receives one such young child as this, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not so much me as Him who sent me."Whosoever shall receive one of such little children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever receiveth me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. Whoever will give honour to one such little child in my name, gives honour to me: and whoever gives honour to me, gives honour not to me, but to him who sent me.
Mark 9:38"Rabbi," said John to Him, "we saw a man making use of your name to expel demons, and we tried to hinder him, on the ground that he did not follow us."John said unto him, Teacher, we saw one casting out demons in thy name; and we forbade him, because he followed not us. John said to him, Master, we saw one driving out evil spirits in your name: and we said that he might not, because he is not one of us.
Mark 9:39"You should not have tried to hinder him," replied Jesus, "for there is no one who will use my name to perform a miracle and be able the next minute to speak evil of me.But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man who shall do a mighty work in my name, and be able quickly to speak evil of me. But Jesus said, Say not so: for there is no man who will do a great work in my name, and be able at the same time to say evil of me.
Mark 9:40He who is not against us is for us;For he that is not against us is for us. He who is not against us is for us.
Mark 9:41and whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, I solemnly tell you that he will certainly not lose his reward. For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink, because ye are Christ's, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. Whoever gives you a cup of water, because you are Christ's, truly I say to you, he will in no way be without his reward.
Mark 9:42"And whoever shall occasion the fall of one of these little ones who believe, he would be better off if, with a millstone round his neck, he were lying at the bottom of the sea.And whosoever shall cause one of these little ones that believe on me to stumble, it were better for him if a great millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. And whoever is a cause of trouble to one of these little ones who have faith in me, it would be better for him if a great stone was put round his neck and he was dropped into the sea.
Mark 9:43If your hand should cause you to sin, cut it off: it would be better for you to enter into Life maimed, than remain in possession of both your hands and go away into Gehenna, into the fire which cannot be put out.And if thy hand cause thee to stumble, cut it off: it is good for thee to enter into life maimed, rather than having thy two hands to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire. And if your hand is a cause of trouble to you, let it be cut off; it is better for you to go into life with one hand than to have two hands and go into hell, into the eternal fire.
Mark 9:44[][where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.] []
Mark 9:45Or if your foot should cause you to sin, cut it off: it would be better for you to enter into Life crippled, than remain in possession of both your feet and be thrown into Gehenna. And if thy foot cause thee to stumble, cut it off: it is good for thee to enter into life halt, rather than having thy two feet to be cast into hell. And if your foot is a cause of trouble to you, let it be cut off: it is better for you to go into life with one foot than to have two feet and go into hell.
Mark 9:46[][where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.] []
Mark 9:47Or if your eye should cause you to sin, tear it out. It would be better for you to enter into the Kingdom of God half-blind than remain in possession of two eyes and be thrown into Gehenna,And if thine eye cause thee to stumble, cast it out: it is good for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell; And if your eye is a cause of trouble to you, take it out: it is better for you to go into the kingdom of God with one eye than, having two eyes, to go into hell,
Mark 9:48where their worm does not die and the fire does not go out.where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. Where their worm is ever living and the fire is not put out.
Mark 9:49Every one, however, will be salted with fire. For every one shall be salted with fire. Everyone will be salted with fire.
Mark 9:50Salt is a good thing, but if the salt should become tasteless, what will you use to give it saltness? Have salt within you and live at peace with one another."Salt is good: but if the salt have lost its saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace one with another. Salt is good; but if the taste goes from it, how will you make it salt again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace one with another.
