Philemon 1:1Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother: To Philemon our dearly-loved fellow labourerPaul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our beloved and fellow-worker, Paul, prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timotheus the brother, to Philemon the beloved and our fellow-workman,
Philemon 1:2and to our sister Apphia and our comrade Archippus as well as to the Church in your house.and to Apphia our sister, and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thy house: and to the sister Apphia and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the assembly which [is] in thine house.
Philemon 1:3May grace be granted to you all, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and [the] Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:4I give continual thanks to my God while making mention of you, my brother, in my prayers,I thank my God always, making mention of thee in my prayers, I thank my God, always making mention of thee at my prayers,
Philemon 1:5because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have towards the Lord Jesus and which you manifest towards all God's people;hearing of thy love, and of the faith which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints; hearing of thy love and the faith which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints,
Philemon 1:6praying as I do, that their participation in your faith may result in others fully recognizing all the right affection that is in us toward Christ.that the fellowship of thy faith may become effectual, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in you, unto Christ. in such sort that thy participation in the faith should become operative in the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in us towards Christ [Jesus].
Philemon 1:7For I have found great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of God's people have been, and are, refreshed through you, my brother.For I had much joy and comfort in thy love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through thee, brother. For we have great thankfulness and encouragement through thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
Philemon 1:8Therefore, though I might with Christ's authority speak very freely and order you to do what is fitting,Wherefore, though I have all boldness in Christ to enjoin thee that which is befitting, Wherefore having much boldness in Christ to enjoin thee what is fitting,
Philemon 1:9it is for love's sake that instead of that although I am none other than Paul the aged, and am now also a prisoner for Christ Jesus,yet for love's sake I rather beseech, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now a prisoner also of Christ Jesus: for love's sake I rather exhort, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also prisoner of Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:10I entreat you on behalf of my own child whose father I have become while in my chains I mean Onesimus.I beseech thee for my child, whom I have begotten in my bonds, Onesimus, I exhort thee for *my* child, whom I have begotten in [my] bonds, Onesimus,
Philemon 1:11Formerly he was useless to you, but now true to his name he is of great use to you and to me.who once was unprofitable to thee, but now is profitable to thee and to me: once unserviceable to thee, but now serviceable to thee and to me:
Philemon 1:12I am sending him back to you, though in so doing I send part of myself.whom I have sent back to thee in his own person, that is, my very heart: whom I have sent back to thee: [but do *thou* receive] him, that is, *my* bowels:
Philemon 1:13It was my wish to keep him at my side for him to attend to my wants, as your representative, during my imprisonment for the Good News.whom I would fain have kept with me, that in thy behalf he might minister unto me in the bonds of the gospel: whom *I* was desirous of keeping with myself, that for thee he might minister to me in the bonds of the glad tidings;
Philemon 1:14Only I wished to do nothing without your consent, so that his kind action of yours might not be done under pressure, but might be a voluntary one.but without thy mind I would do nothing; that thy goodness should not be as of necessity, but of free will. but I have wished to do nothing without thy mind, that thy good might not be as of necessity but of willingness:
Philemon 1:15For perhaps it was for this reason he was parted from you for a time, that you might receive him back wholly and for ever yours;For perhaps he was therefore parted [from thee] for a season, that thou shouldest have him for ever; for perhaps for this reason he has been separated [from thee] for a time, that thou mightest possess him fully for ever;
Philemon 1:16no longer as a slave, but as something better than a slave a brother peculiarly dear to me, and even dearer to you, both as a servant and as a fellow Christian.no longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much rather to thee, both in the flesh and in the Lord. not any longer as a bondman, but above a bondman, a beloved brother, specially to me, and how much rather to thee, both in [the] flesh and in [the] Lord?
Philemon 1:17If therefore you regard me as a comrade, receive him as if he were I myself.If then thou countest me a partner, receive him as myself. If therefore thou holdest me to be a partner [with thee], receive him as me;
Philemon 1:18And if he was ever dishonest or is in your debt, debit me with the amount.But if he hath wronged thee at all, or oweth [thee] aught, put that to mine account; but if he have wronged thee anything or owe anything [to thee], put this to my account.
Philemon 1:19I Paul write this with my own hand I will pay you in full. (I say nothing of the fact that you owe me even your own self.)I Paul write it with mine own hand, I will repay it: that I say not unto thee that thou owest to me even thine own self besides. *I* Paul have written [it] with mine own hand; *I* will repay [it]: that I say not to thee that thou owest even thine own self also to me.
Philemon 1:20Yes, brother, do me this favour for the Lord's sake. Refresh my heart in Christ.Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my heart in Christ. Yea, brother, *I* would have profit of *thee* in [the] Lord: refresh my bowels in Christ.
Philemon 1:21I write to you in the full confidence that you will meet my wishes, for I know you will do even more than I say.Having confidence in thine obedience I write unto thee, knowing that thou wilt do even beyond what I say. Being confident of thine obedience, I have written to thee, knowing that thou wilt do even more than I say.
Philemon 1:22And at the same time provide accommodation for me; for I hope that through your prayers I shall be permitted to come to you.But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I hope that through your prayers I shall be granted unto you. But withal prepare me also a lodging; for I hope that I shall be granted to you through your prayers.
Philemon 1:23Greetings to you, my brother, from Epaphras my fellow prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus;Epaphras, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus, saluteth thee; Epaphras salutes thee, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;
Philemon 1:24and from Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.[and so do] Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workers. Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workmen.
Philemon 1:25May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with the spirit of every one of you.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with your spirit.
