Mark 9:1 | He went on to say, "In solemn truth I tell you that some of those who are standing here will certainly not taste death till they have seen the Kingdom of God already come in power." | And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There are some here of them that stand [by], who shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God come with power. | And he said to them, Verily I say to you, that there are some of them that stand here who shall not taste death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. |
Mark 9:2 | Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter, James, and John, and brought them alone, apart from the rest, up a high mountain; and in their presence His appearance underwent a change. | And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them; | And after six days, Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up upon a high mountain apart by themselves; and he was transfigured before them. |
Mark 9:3 | His garments also became dazzling with brilliant whiteness such whiteness as no bleaching on earth could give. | and his garments became glistering, exceeding white, so as no fuller on earth can whiten them. | And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can whiten them. |
Mark 9:4 | Moreover there appeared to them Elijah accompanied by Moses; and the two were conversing with Jesus, | And there appeared unto them Elijah with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. | And there appeared to them Elijah, with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. |
Mark 9:5 | when Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, we are thankful to you that we are here. Let us put up three tents one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." | And Peter answereth and saith to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. | And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. |
Mark 9:6 | For he knew not what to say: they were filled with such awe. | For he knew not what to answer; for they became sore afraid. | For he knew not what to say: for they were greatly terrified. |
Mark 9:7 | Then there came a cloud spreading over them, and a voice issued from the cloud, "This is my Son, dearly loved: listen to Him." | And there came a cloud overshadowing them: and there came a voice out of the cloud, This is my beloved Son: hear ye him. | And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. |
Mark 9:8 | Instantly they looked round, and now they could no longer see any one, but themselves and Jesus. | And suddenly looking round about, they saw no one any more, save Jesus only with themselves. | And suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. |
Mark 9:9 | As they were coming down from the mountain, He very strictly forbad them to tell any one what they had seen "until after the Son of Man has risen from among the dead." | And as they were coming down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, save when the Son of man should have risen again from the dead. | And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. |
Mark 9:10 | So they kept the matter to themselves, although frequently asking one another what was meant by the rising from the dead. | And they kept the saying, questioning among themselves what the rising again from the dead should mean. | And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean. |
Mark 9:11 | They also asked Him, "How is it that the Scribes say that Elijah must first come?" | And they asked him, saying, [How is it] that the scribes say that Elijah must first come? | And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elijah must first come? |
Mark 9:12 | "Elijah," He replied, "does indeed come first and reforms everything; but how is it that it is written of the Son of Man that He will endure much suffering and be held in contempt? | And he said unto them, Elijah indeed cometh first, and restoreth all things: and how is it written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be set at nought? | And he answered and told them, Elijah verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written concerning the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at naught. |
Mark 9:13 | Yet I tell you that not only has Elijah come, but they have also done to him whatever they chose, as the Scriptures say about him." | But I say unto you, that Elijah is come, and they have also done unto him whatsoever they would, even as it is written of him. | But I say to you, that Elijah is indeed come, and they have done to him whatever they pleased, as it is written concerning him. |
Mark 9:14 | As they came to rejoin the disciples, they saw an immense crowd surrounding them and a party of Scribes disputing with them. | And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great multitude about them, and scribes questioning with them. | And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them. |
Mark 9:15 | Immediately the whole multitude on beholding Him were astonished and awe-struck, and yet they ran forward and greeted Him. | And straightway all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him. | And immediately all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him, saluted him. |
Mark 9:16 | "What is the subject you are discussing?" He asked them. | And he asked them, What question ye with them? | And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them? |
Mark 9:17 | "Rabbi," answered one of the crowd, "I have brought you my son. He has a dumb spirit in him; | And one of the multitude answered him, Teacher, I brought unto thee my son, who hath a dumb spirit; | And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought to thee my son, who hath a dumb spirit; |
Mark 9:18 | and wherever it comes upon him, it dashes him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth, and he is pining away. I begged your disciples to expel it, but they had not the power." | and wheresoever it taketh him, it dasheth him down: and he foameth, and grindeth his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast it out; and they were not able. | And wherever he taketh him, he teareth him; and he foameth and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away; and I spoke to thy disciples that they should cast him out, and they could not. |
Mark 9:19 | "O unbelieving generation!" replied Jesus; "how long must I be with you? how long must I have patience with you? Bring the boy to me." | And he answereth them and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him unto me. | He answered him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you, how long shall I suffer you? bring him to me. |
Mark 9:20 | So they brought him to Jesus. And the spirit, when he saw Jesus, immediately threw the youth into convulsions, so that he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. | And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him grievously; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. | And they brought him to him: and when he saw him, immediately the spirit tore him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed, foaming. |
Mark 9:21 | Then Jesus asked the father, "How long has he been like this?" "From early childhood," he said; | And he asked his father, How long time is it since this hath come unto him? And he said, From a child. | And he asked his father, How long is it since this came to him? and he said, From a child. |
Mark 9:22 | "and often it has thrown him into the fire or into pools of water to destroy him. But, if you possibly can, have pity on us and help us." | And oft-times it hath cast him both into the fire and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us. | And often it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. |
Mark 9:23 | "`If I possibly can!'" replied Jesus; "why, everything is possible to him who believes." | And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst! All things are possible to him that believeth. | Jesus said to him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. |
Mark 9:24 | Immediately the father cried out, "I do believe: strengthen my weak faith." | Straightway the father of the child cried out, and said, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. | And immediately the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou my unbelief. |
Mark 9:25 | Then Jesus, seeing that an increasing crowd was running towards Him, rebuked the foul spirit, and said to it, "Dumb and deaf spirit, *I* command you, come out of him and never enter into him again." | And when Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. | When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying to him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. |
Mark 9:26 | So with a loud cry he threw the boy into fit after fit, and came out. The boy looked as if he were dead, so that most of them said he was dead; | And having cried out, and torn him much, he came out: and [the boy] became as one dead; insomuch that the more part said, He is dead. | And the spirit cried, and rent him severely, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; so that many said, He is dead. |
Mark 9:27 | but Jesus took his hand and raised him up, and he stood on his feet. | But Jesus took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose. | But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. |
Mark 9:28 | After the return of Jesus to the house His disciples asked Him privately, "How is it that we could not expel the spirit?" | And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, [How is it] that we could not cast it out? | And when he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? |
Mark 9:29 | "An evil spirit of this kind," He answered, "can only be driven out by prayer." | And he said unto them, This kind can come out by nothing, save by prayer. | And he said to them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. |
Mark 9:30 | Departing thence they passed through Galilee, and He was unwilling that any one should know it; | And they went forth from thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it. | And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it. |
Mark 9:31 | for He was teaching His disciples, and telling them, "The Son of Man is to be betrayed into the hands of men, and they will put Him to death; and after being put to death, in three days He will rise to life again." | For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered up into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and when he is killed, after three days he shall rise again. | For he taught his disciples, and said to them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and after that he is killed, he will rise the third day. |
Mark 9:32 | They, however, did not understand what He meant, and were afraid to question Him. | But they understood not the saying, and were afraid to ask him. | But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him. |
Mark 9:33 | So they came to Capernaum; and when in the house He asked them, "What were you arguing about on the way?" | And they came to Capernaum: and when he was in the house he asked them, What were ye reasoning on the way? | And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house, he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way? |
Mark 9:34 | But they remained silent; for on the way they had debated with one another who was the chief of them. | But they held their peace: for they had disputed one with another on the way, who [was] the greatest. | But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest. |
Mark 9:35 | Then sitting down He called the Twelve, and said to them, "If any one wishes to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all." | And he sat down, and called the twelve; and he saith unto them, If any man would be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all. | And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith to them, If any man desireth to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all. |
Mark 9:36 | And taking a young child He made him stand in their midst, then threw His arms round him and said, | And he took a little child, and set him in the midst of them: and taking him in his arms, he said unto them, | And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said to them, |
Mark 9:37 | "Whoever for my sake receives one such young child as this, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not so much me as Him who sent me." | Whosoever shall receive one of such little children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever receiveth me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. | Whoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. |
Mark 9:38 | "Rabbi," said John to Him, "we saw a man making use of your name to expel demons, and we tried to hinder him, on the ground that he did not follow us." | John said unto him, Teacher, we saw one casting out demons in thy name; and we forbade him, because he followed not us. | And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out demons in thy name, and he followeth not us; and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. |
Mark 9:39 | "You should not have tried to hinder him," replied Jesus, "for there is no one who will use my name to perform a miracle and be able the next minute to speak evil of me. | But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man who shall do a mighty work in my name, and be able quickly to speak evil of me. | But Jesus said, Forbid him not; for there is no man who shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. |
Mark 9:40 | He who is not against us is for us; | For he that is not against us is for us. | For he that is not against us, is on our part. |
Mark 9:41 | and whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, I solemnly tell you that he will certainly not lose his reward. | For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink, because ye are Christ's, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. | For whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say to you, he shall not lose his reward. |
Mark 9:42 | "And whoever shall occasion the fall of one of these little ones who believe, he would be better off if, with a millstone round his neck, he were lying at the bottom of the sea. | And whosoever shall cause one of these little ones that believe on me to stumble, it were better for him if a great millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. | And whoever shall cause one of these little ones that believe in me, to fall into sin, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. |
Mark 9:43 | If your hand should cause you to sin, cut it off: it would be better for you to enter into Life maimed, than remain in possession of both your hands and go away into Gehenna, into the fire which cannot be put out. | And if thy hand cause thee to stumble, cut it off: it is good for thee to enter into life maimed, rather than having thy two hands to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire. | And if thy hand causeth thee to fall into sin, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: |
Mark 9:44 | [] | [where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.] | Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. |
Mark 9:45 | Or if your foot should cause you to sin, cut it off: it would be better for you to enter into Life crippled, than remain in possession of both your feet and be thrown into Gehenna. | And if thy foot cause thee to stumble, cut it off: it is good for thee to enter into life halt, rather than having thy two feet to be cast into hell. | And if thy foot causeth thee to fall into sin, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: |
Mark 9:46 | [] | [where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.] | Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. |
Mark 9:47 | Or if your eye should cause you to sin, tear it out. It would be better for you to enter into the Kingdom of God half-blind than remain in possession of two eyes and be thrown into Gehenna, | And if thine eye cause thee to stumble, cast it out: it is good for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell; | And if thy eye causeth thee to fall into sin, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes, to be cast into hell-fire. |
Mark 9:48 | where their worm does not die and the fire does not go out. | where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. | Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. |
Mark 9:49 | Every one, however, will be salted with fire. | For every one shall be salted with fire. | For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. |
Mark 9:50 | Salt is a good thing, but if the salt should become tasteless, what will you use to give it saltness? Have salt within you and live at peace with one another." | Salt is good: but if the salt have lost its saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace one with another. | Salt is good: but if the salt hath lost its saltness, with what will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. |
