 The Weymouth New Testament Online Bible (WEY)The American Standard Version Online Bible (ASV)The Young's Literal Translation Online Bible (YLT)
Mark 8:1About that time there was again an immense crowd, and they found themselves with nothing to eat. So He called His disciples to Him.In those days, when there was again a great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, In those days the multitude being very great, and not having what they may eat, Jesus having called near his disciples, saith to them,
Mark 8:2"My heart yearns over the people," He said; "for this is now the third day they have remained with me, and they have nothing to eat.I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: `I have compassion upon the multitude, because now three days they do continue with me, and they have not what they may eat;
Mark 8:3If I were to send them home hungry, they would faint on the way, some of them having come a great distance."and if I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way; and some of them are come from far. and if I shall let them away fasting to their home, they will faint in the way, for certain of them are come from far.`
Mark 8:4"Where can we possibly get bread here in this remote place to satisfy such a crowd?" answered His disciples.And his disciples answered him, Whence shall one be able to fill these men with bread here in a desert place? And his disciples answered him, `Whence shall any one be able these here to feed with bread in a wilderness?`
Mark 8:5"How many loaves have you?" He asked. "Seven," they said.And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. And he was questioning them, `How many loaves have ye?` and they said, `Seven.`
Mark 8:6So He passed the word to the people to sit down on the ground. Then taking the seven loaves He blessed them, and broke them into portions and proceeded to give them to His disciples for them to distribute, and they distributed them to the people.And he commandeth the multitude to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he brake, and gave to his disciples, to set before them; and they set them before the multitude. And he commanded the multitude to sit down upon the ground, and having taken the seven loaves, having given thanks, he brake, and was giving to his disciples that they may set before [them]; and they did set before the multitude.
Mark 8:7They had also a few small fish. He blessed them, and He told His disciples to distribute these also.And they had a few small fishes: and having blessed them, he commanded to set these also before them. And they had a few small fishes, and having blessed, he said to set them also before [them];
Mark 8:8So the people ate an abundant meal; and what remained over they picked up and carried away seven hampers of broken pieces.And they ate, and were filled: and they took up, of broken pieces that remained over, seven baskets. and they did eat and were filled, and they took up that which was over of broken pieces seven baskets;
Mark 8:9The number fed were about 4,000. Then He sent them away,And they were about four thousand: and he sent them away. and those eating were about four thousand. And he let them away,
Mark 8:10and at once going on board with His disciples He came into the district of Dalmanutha.And straightway he entered into the boat with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha. and immediately having entered into the boat with his disciples, he came to the parts of Dalmanutha,
Mark 8:11The Pharisees followed Him and began to dispute with Him, asking Him for a sign in the sky, to make trial of Him.And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, trying him. and the Pharisees came forth, and began to dispute with him, seeking from him a sign from the heaven, tempting him;
Mark 8:12Heaving a deep and troubled sigh, He said, "Why do the men of to-day ask for a sign? In solemn truth I tell you that no sign will be given to the men of to-day."And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation. and having sighed deeply in his spirit, he saith, `Why doth this generation seek after a sign? Verily I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.`
Mark 8:13So He left them, went on board again, and came away to the other side.And he left them, and again entering into [the boat] departed to the other side. And having left them, having entered again into the boat, he went away to the other side;
Mark 8:14Now they had forgotten to take bread, nor had they more than a single loaf with them in the boat;And they forgot to take bread; and they had not in the boat with them more than one loaf. and they forgot to take loaves, and except one loaf they had nothing with them in the boat,
Mark 8:15and when He admonished them, "See to it, be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod,"And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod. and he was charging them, saying, `Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod,`
Mark 8:16they explained His words to one another by saying, "We have no bread!"And they reasoned one with another, saying, We have no bread. and they were reasoning with one another, saying `Because we have no loaves.`
Mark 8:17He perceived what they were saying, and He said to them, "What is this discussion of yours about having no bread? Do you not yet see and understand? Are your minds so dull of comprehension?And Jesus perceiving it saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? do ye not yet perceive, neither understand? have ye your heart hardened? And Jesus having known, saith to them, `Why do ye reason, because ye have no loaves? do ye not yet perceive, nor understand, yet have ye your heart hardened?
Mark 8:18You have eyes! can you not see? You have ears! can you not hear? and have you no memory?Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember? Having eyes, do ye not see? and having ears, do ye not hear? and do ye not remember?
Mark 8:19When I broke up the five loaves for the 5,000 men, how many baskets did you carry away full of broken portions?" "Twelve," they said.When I brake the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve. When the five loaves I did brake to the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces took ye up?` they say to him, `Twelve.`
Mark 8:20"And when the seven for the 4,000, how many hampers full of portions did you take away?" "Seven," they answered.And when the seven among the four thousand, how many basketfuls of broken pieces took ye up? And they say unto him, Seven. `And when the seven to the four thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces took ye up?` and they said, `Seven.`
Mark 8:21"Do you not yet understand?" He said.And he said unto them, Do ye not yet understand? And he said to them, `How do ye not understand?`
Mark 8:22And they came to Bethsaida. And a blind man was brought to Jesus and they entreated Him to touch him.And they come unto Bethsaida. And they bring to him a blind man, and beseech him to touch him. And he cometh to Bethsaida, and they bring to him one blind, and call upon him that he may touch him,
Mark 8:23So He took the blind man by the arm and brought him out of the village, and spitting into his eyes He put His hands on him and asked him, "Can you see anything?"And he took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village; and when he had spit on his eyes, and laid his hands upon him, he asked him, Seest thou aught? and having taken the hand of the blind man, he led him forth without the village, and having spit on his eyes, having put [his] hands on him, he was questioning him if he doth behold anything:
Mark 8:24He looked up and said, "I can see the people: I see them like trees only walking."And he looked up, and said, I see men; for I behold [them] as trees, walking. and he, having looked up, said, `I behold men, as I see trees, walking.`
Mark 8:25Then for the second time He put His hands on the man's eyes, and the man, looking steadily, recovered his sight and saw everything distinctly.Then again he laid his hands upon his eyes; and he looked stedfastly, and was restored, and saw all things clearly. Afterwards again he put [his] hands on his eyes, and made him look up, and he was restored, and discerned all things clearly,
Mark 8:26So He sent him home, and added, "Do not even go into the village."And he sent him away to his home, saying, Do not even enter into the village. and he sent him away to his house, saying, `Neither to the village mayest thou go, nor tell [it] to any in the village.`
Mark 8:27From that place Jesus and His disciples went to the villages belonging to Caesarea Philippi. On the way He began to ask His disciples, "Who do people say that I am?"And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi: and on the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am? And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, to the villages of Cesarea Philippi, and in the way he was questioning his disciples, saying to them, `Who do men say me to be?`
Mark 8:28"John the Baptist," they replied, "but others say Elijah, and others, that it is one of the Prophets."And they told him, saying, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but others, One of the prophets. And they answered, `John the Baptist, and others Elijah, but others one of the prophets.`
Mark 8:29Then He asked them pointedly, "But you yourselves, who do you say that I am?" "You are the Christ," answered Peter.And he asked them, But who say ye that I am? Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ. And he saith to them, `And ye who do ye say me to be?` and Peter answering saith to him, `Thou art the Christ.`
Mark 8:30And He strictly forbad them to tell this about Him to any one.And he charged them that they should tell no man of him. And he strictly charged them that they may tell no one about it,
Mark 8:31And now for the first time He told them, "The Son of Man must endure much suffering, and be rejected by the Elders and the High Priests and the Scribes, and be put to death, and after two days rise to life."And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. and began to teach them, that it behoveth the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise again;
Mark 8:32This He told them plainly; whereupon Peter took Him and began to remonstrate with Him.And he spake the saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. and openly he was speaking the word. And Peter having taken him aside, began to rebuke him,
Mark 8:33But turning round and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter. "Get behind me, Adversary," He said, "for your thoughts are not God's thoughts, but men's."But he turning about, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and saith, Get thee behind me, Satan; for thou mindest not the things of God, but the things of men. and he, having turned, and having looked on his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, `Get behind me, Adversary, because thou dost not mind the things of God, but the things of men.`
Mark 8:34Then calling to Him the crowd and also His disciples, He said to them, "If any one is desirous of following me, let him ignore self and take up his cross, and so be my follower.And he called unto him the multitude with his disciples, and said unto them, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. And having called near the multitude, with his disciples, he said to them, `Whoever doth will to come after me let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow me;
Mark 8:35For whoever is bent on securing his life will lose it, but he who loses his life for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News, will secure it.For whosoever would save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's shall save it. for whoever may will to save his life shall lose it; and whoever may lose his life for my sake and for the good news` sake, he shall save it;
Mark 8:36Why, what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?For what doth it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? for what shall it profit a man, if he may gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?
Mark 8:37For what could a man give to buy back his life?For what should a man give in exchange for his life? Or what shall a man give as an exchange for his life?
Mark 8:38Every one, however, who has been ashamed of me and of my teachings in this faithless and sinful age, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in His Father's glory with the holy angels."For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of man also shall be ashamed of him, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. for whoever may be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also shall be ashamed of him, when he may come in the glory of his Father, with the holy messengers.`
