Matthew 21:2 | saying to them, "Go to the village you see facing you, and as you enter it you will find a she-ass tied up and a foal with her. Untie her and bring them to me. | Saying to them, Go into the little town in front of you, and straight away you will see an ass with a cord round her neck, and a young one with her; let them loose and come with them to me. | saying unto them, Go into the village that is over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose [them], and bring [them] unto me. |
Matthew 21:3 | And if any one says anything to you, say, `The Master needs them,' and he will at once send them." | And if anyone says anything to you, you will say, The Lord has need of them; and straight away he will send them. | And if any one say aught unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. |

Matthew 21:5 | "Tell the Daughter of Zion, `See, thy King is coming to thee, gentle, and yet mounted on an ass, even on a colt the foal of a beast of burden.'" | Say to the daughter of Zion, See, your King comes to you, gentle and seated on an ass, and on a young ass. | Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, Meek, and riding upon an ass, And upon a colt the foal of an ass. |
Matthew 21:6 | So the disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them: | And the disciples went and did as Jesus had given them orders, | And the disciples went, and did even as Jesus appointed them, |
Matthew 21:7 | they brought the she-ass and the foal, and threw their outer garments on them. So He sat on them; | And got the ass and the young one, and put their clothing on them, and he took his seat on it. | and brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their garments; and he sat thereon. |
Matthew 21:8 | and most of the crowd kept spreading their garments along the road, while others cut branches from the trees and carpeted the road with them, | And all the people put their clothing down in the way; and others got branches from the trees, and put them down in the way. | And the most part of the multitude spread their garments in the way; and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the way. |
Matthew 21:9 | and the multitudes some of the people preceding Him and some following sang aloud, "God save the Son of David! Blessings on Him who comes in the Lord's name! God in the highest Heavens save Him!" | And those who went before him, and those who came after, gave loud cries, saying, Glory to the Son of David: A blessing on him who comes in the name of the Lord: Glory in the highest. | And the multitudes that went before him, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. |
Matthew 21:10 | When He thus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was thrown into commotion, every one inquiring, "Who is this?" | And when he came into Jerusalem, all the town was moved, saying, Who is this? | And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, Who is this? |
Matthew 21:11 | "This is Jesus, the Prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee," replied the crowds. | And the people said, This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee. | And the multitudes said, This is the prophet, Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee. |
Matthew 21:12 | Entering the Temple, Jesus drove out all who were buying and selling there, and overturned the money-changers' tables and the seats of the pigeon-dealers. | And Jesus went into the Temple and sent out all who were trading there, overturning the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those trading in doves. | And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of he money-changers, and the seats of them that sold the doves; |
Matthew 21:13 | "It is written," He said, "`My House shall be called the House of Prayer', but you are making it a robbers' cave." | And he said to them, It is in the Writings, My house is to be named a house of prayer, but you are making it a hole of thieves. | and he saith unto them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer: but ye make it a den of robbers. |
Matthew 21:14 | And the blind and the lame came to Him in the Temple, and He cured them. | And the blind and the broken in body came to him in the Temple, and he made them well. | And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. |
Matthew 21:15 | But when the High Priests and the Scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done and the children who were crying aloud in the Temple, "God save the Son of David," they were filled with indignation. | But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the works of power which he did, and the children crying out in the Temple, Glory to the son of David, they were angry and said to him, | But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children that were crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were moved with indignation, |
Matthew 21:16 | "Do you hear," they asked Him, "what these children are saying?" "Yes," He replied; "have you never read, `Out of the mouths of infants and of babes at the breast Thou hast brought forth the praise which is due'?" | Have you any idea what these are saying? And Jesus said to them, Yes: have you not seen in the Writings, From the lips of children and babies at the breast you have made your praise complete? | and said unto him, Hearest thou what these are saying? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea: did ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou has perfected praise? |
Matthew 21:17 | So He left them and went out of the city to Bethany and passed the night there. | And he went away from them, and went out of the town to Bethany, and was there for the night. | And he left them, and went forth out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there. |
Matthew 21:18 | Early in the morning as He was on His way to return to the city He was hungry, | Now in the morning when he was coming back to the town, he had a desire for food. | Now in the morning as he returned to the city, he hungered. |
Matthew 21:19 | and seeing a fig-tree on the road-side He went up to it, but found nothing on it but leaves. "On you," He said, "no fruit shall ever again grow." And immediately the fig-tree withered away. | And seeing a fig-tree by the wayside, he came to it, and saw nothing on it but leaves only; and he said to it, Let there be no fruit from you from this time forward for ever. And straight away the fig-tree became dry and dead. | And seeing a fig tree by the way side, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only; and he saith unto it, Let there be no fruit from thee henceforward for ever. And immediately the fig tree withered away. |
Matthew 21:20 | When the disciples saw it they exclaimed in astonishment, "How instantaneously the fig-tree has withered away!" | And when the disciples saw it they were surprised, saying, How did the fig-tree become dry in so short a time? | And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How did the fig tree immediately wither away? |
Matthew 21:21 | "I solemnly tell you," said Jesus, "that if you have an unwavering faith, you shall not only perform such a miracle as this of the fig-tree, but that even if you say to this mountain, `Be thou lifted up and hurled into the sea,' it shall be done; | And Jesus in answer said to them, Truly I say to you, If you have faith, without doubting, not only may you do what has been done to the fig-tree, but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and put into the sea, it will be done. | And Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do what is done to the fig tree, but even if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea, it shall be done. |
Matthew 21:22 | and everything, whatever it be, that you ask for in your prayers, if you have faith, you shall obtain." | And all things, whatever you make request for in prayer, having faith, you will get. | And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. |
Matthew 21:23 | He entered the Temple; and while He was teaching, the High Priests and the Elders of the people came to Him and asked Him, "By what authority are you doing these things? and who gave you this authority?" | And when he had come into the Temple, the chief priests and those in authority over the people came to him while he was teaching, and said, By what authority do you do these things? and who gave you this authority? | And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? |
Matthew 21:24 | "And I also have a question to ask *you*," replied Jesus, "and if you answer me, I in turn will tell you by what authority I do these things. | And Jesus said to them in answer, I will put one question to you, and if you give me the answer, I will say by what authority I do these things. | And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one question, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things. |
Matthew 21:25 | John's Baptism, whence was it? had it a heavenly or a human origin?" So they debated the matter among themselves. "If we say `a heavenly origin,'" they argued, "he will say, `Why then did you not believe him?' | The baptism of John, where did it come from? from heaven or from men? And they were reasoning among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven; he will say to us, Why then did you not have faith in him? | The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him? |
Matthew 21:26 | and if we say `a human origin' we have the people to fear, for they all hold John to have been a Prophet." | But if we say, From men; we are in fear of the people, because all take John to be a prophet. | But if we shall say, From men; we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet. |
Matthew 21:27 | So they answered Jesus, "We do not know." "Nor do I tell you," He replied, "by what authority I do these things." | And they made answer and said, We have no idea. Then he said to them, And I will not say to you by what authority I do these things. | And they answered Jesus, and said, We know not. He also said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. |
Matthew 21:28 | "But give me your judgement. There was a man who had two sons. He came to the elder of them, and said, "`My son, go and work in the vineyard to-day.' | But how does it seem to you? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go and do work today in the vine-garden. | But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in the vineyard. |
Matthew 21:29 | "`I will not,' he replied. "But afterwards he was sorry, and went. | And he said in answer, I will not: but later, changing his decision, he went. | And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented himself, and went. |
Matthew 21:30 | He came to the second and spoke in the same manner. His answer was, "`I will go, Sir.' "But he did not go. | And he came to the second and said the same. And he made answer and said, I go, sir: and went not. | And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I [go], sir: and went not. |
Matthew 21:31 | Which of the two did as his father desired?" "The first," they said. "I solemnly tell you,' replied Jesus, "that the tax-gatherers and the notorious sinners are entering the Kingdom of God in front of you. | Which of the two did his father's pleasure? They say, The first. Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, that tax-farmers and loose women are going into the kingdom of God before you. | Which of the two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. |
Matthew 21:32 | For John came to you observing all sorts of ritual, and you put no faith in him: the tax-gatherers and the notorious sinners did put faith in him, and you, though you saw this example set you, were not even afterwards sorry so as to believe him. | For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you had no faith in him, but the tax-farmers and the loose women had faith in him: and you, when you saw it, did not even have regret for your sins, so as to have faith in him. | For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him. |
Matthew 21:33 | "Listen to another parable. There was a householder who planted a vineyard, made a fence round it, dug a wine-tank in it, and built a strong lodge; then let the place to vine-dressers, and went abroad. | Give ear to another story. A master of a house made a vine garden, and put a wall round it, and made a place for crushing out the wine, and made a tower, and let it out to field-workers, and went into another country. | Hear another parable: There was a man that was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. |
Matthew 21:34 | When vintage-time approached, he sent his servants to the vine-dressers to receive his share of the grapes; | And when the time for the fruit came near, he sent his servants to the workmen, to get the fruit. | And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits. |
Matthew 21:35 | but the vine-dressers seized the servants, and one they cruelly beat, one they killed, one they pelted with stones. | And the workmen made an attack on his servants, giving blows to one, putting another to death, and stoning another. | And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. |
Matthew 21:36 | Again he sent another party of servants more numerous than the first; and these they treated in the same manner. | Again, he sent other servants more in number than the first: and they did the same to them. | Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them in like manner. |
Matthew 21:37 | Later still he sent to them his son, saying, "`They will respect my son.' | But after that he sent his son to them, saying, They will have respect for my son. | But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. |
Matthew 21:38 | "But the vine-dressers, when they saw the son, said to one another, "`Here is the heir: come, let us kill him and get his inheritance.' | But when the workmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is he who will one day be the owner of the property; come, let us put him to death and take his heritage. | But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance. |
Matthew 21:39 | "So they seized him, dragged him out of the vineyard, and killed him. | And they took him and, driving him out of the vine-garden, put him to death. | And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. |
Matthew 21:40 | When then the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-dressers?" | When, then, the lord of the vine-garden comes, what will he do to those workmen? | When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen? |
Matthew 21:41 | "He will put the wretches to a wretched death," was the reply, "and will entrust the vineyard to other vine-dressers who will render the produce to him at the vintage season." | They say to him, He will put those cruel men to a cruel death, and will let out the vine-garden to other workmen, who will give him the fruit when it is ready. | They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons. |
Matthew 21:42 | "Have you never read in the Scriptures," said Jesus, "`The Stone which the builders rejected has been made the Cornerstone: this Cornerstone came from the Lord, and is wonderful in our eyes'? | Jesus says to them, Did you never see in the Writings, The stone which the builders put on one side, the same has been made the chief stone of the building: this was the Lord's doing, and it is a wonder in our eyes? | Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner; This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes? |
Matthew 21:43 | "That, I tell you, is the reason why the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and given to a nation that will exhibit the power of it. | For this reason I say to you, The kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and will be given to a nation producing the fruits of it. | Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. |
Matthew 21:44 | He who falls on this stone will be severely hurt; but he on whom it falls will be utterly crushed." | Any man falling on this stone will be broken, but he on whom it comes down will be crushed to dust. | And he that falleth on this stone shall be broken to pieces: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust. |
Matthew 21:45 | After listening to His parables the High Priests and the Pharisees perceived that He was speaking about them; | And when his stories came to the ears of the chief priests and the Pharisees, they saw that he was talking of them. | And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. |
Matthew 21:46 | but though they were eager to lay hands upon Him, they were afraid of the people, for by them He was regarded as a Prophet. | And though they had a desire to take him, they were in fear of the people, because in their eyes he was a prophet. | And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet. |
