Matthew 6:1"But beware of doing your good actions in the sight of men, in order to attract their gaze; if you do, there is no reward for you with your Father who is in Heaven.Take care not to do your good works before men, to be seen by them; or you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.Take heed not to do your alms before men to be seen of them, otherwise ye have no reward with your Father who is in the heavens.
Matthew 6:2`When you give in charity, never blow a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and streets in order that their praises may be sung by men. I solemnly tell you that they already have their reward.When then you give money to the poor, do not make a noise about it, as the false-hearted men do in the Synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Truly, I say to you, They have their reward.When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Matthew 6:3But when you are giving in charity, let not your left hand perceive what your right hand is doing,But when you give money, let not your left hand see what your right hand does:But thou, when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand does;
Matthew 6:4that your charities may be in secret; and then your Father He who sees in secret will recompense you.So that your giving may be in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward.so that thine alms may be in secret, and thy Father who sees in secret will render [it] to thee.
Matthew 6:5"And when praying, you must not be like the hypocrites. They are fond of standing and praying in the synagogues or at the corners of the wider streets, in order that men may see them. I solemnly tell you that they already have their reward.And when you make your prayers, be not like the false-hearted men, who take pleasure in getting up and saying their prayers in the Synagogues and at the street turnings so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites; for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets so that they should appear to men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Matthew 6:6But you, whenever you pray, go into your own room and shut the door: then pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father He who sees in secret will recompense you.But when you make your prayer, go into your private room, and, shutting the door, say a prayer to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward.But *thou*, when thou prayest, enter into thy chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who sees in secret will render [it] to thee.
Matthew 6:7"And when praying, do not use needless repetitions as the Gentiles do, for they expect to be listened to because of their multitude of words.And in your prayer do not make use of the same words again and again, as the Gentiles do: for they have the idea that God will give attention to them because of the number of their words.But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as those who are of the nations: for they think they shall be heard through their much speaking.
Matthew 6:8Do not, however, imitate them; for your Father knows what things you need before ever you ask Him.So be not like them; because your Father has knowledge of your needs even before you make your requests to him.Be not ye therefore like them, for your Father knows of what things ye have need before ye beg [anything] of him.
Matthew 6:9"In this manner therefore pray: `Our Father who art in Heaven, may Thy name be kept holy;Let this then be your prayer: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.Thus therefore pray *ye*: Our Father who art in the heavens, let thy name be sanctified,
Matthew 6:10let Thy kingdom come; let Thy will be done, as in Heaven so on earth;Let your kingdom come. Let your pleasure be done, as in heaven, so on earth.let thy kingdom come, let thy will be done as in heaven so upon the earth;
Matthew 6:11give us to-day our bread for the day;Give us this day bread for our needs.give us to-day our needed bread,
Matthew 6:12and forgive us our shortcomings, as we also have forgiven those who have failed in their duty towards us;And make us free of our debts, as we have made those free who are in debt to us.and forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors,
Matthew 6:13and bring us not into temptation, but rescue us from the Evil one.'And let us not be put to the test, but keep us safe from the Evil One.and lead us not into temptation, but save us from evil.
Matthew 6:14"For if you forgive others their offences, your Heavenly Father will forgive you also;For if you let men have forgiveness for their sins, you will have forgiveness from your Father in heaven.For if ye forgive men their offences, your heavenly Father also will forgive you [yours],
Matthew 6:15but if you do not forgive others their offences, neither will your Father forgive yours.But if you do not let men have forgiveness for their sins, you will not have forgiveness from your Father for your sins.but if ye do not forgive men their offences, neither will your Father forgive your offences.
Matthew 6:16"When any of you fast, never assume gloomy looks as the hypocrites do; for they disfigure their faces in order that it may be evident to men that they are fasting. I solemnly tell you that they already have their reward.And when you go without food, be not sad-faced as the false-hearted are. For they go about with changed looks, so that men may see that they are going without food. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.And when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, downcast in countenance; for they disfigure their faces, so that they may appear fasting to men: verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Matthew 6:17But, whenever you fast, pour perfume on your hair and wash your face,But when you go without food, put oil on your head and make your face clean;But *thou*, [when] fasting, anoint thy head and wash thy face,
Matthew 6:18that it may not be apparent to men that you are fasting, but to your Father who is in secret; and your Father He who sees in secret will recompense you.So that no one may see that you are going without food, but your Father in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward.so that thou mayest not appear fasting unto men, but to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father who sees in secret shall render [it] to thee.
Matthew 6:19"Do not lay up stores of wealth for yourselves on earth, where the moth and wear-and-tear destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.Make no store of wealth for yourselves on earth, where it may be turned to dust by worms and weather, and where thieves may come in by force and take it away.Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust spoils, and where thieves dig through and steal;
Matthew 6:20But amass wealth for yourselves in Heaven, where neither the moth nor wear-and-tear destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal.But make a store for yourselves in heaven, where it will not be turned to dust and where thieves do not come in to take it away:but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust spoils, and where thieves do not dig through nor steal;
Matthew 6:21For where your wealth is, there also will your heart be.For where your wealth is, there will your heart be.for where thy treasure is, there will be also thy heart.
Matthew 6:22"The eye is the lamp of the body. If then your eyesight is good, your whole body will be well lighted;The light of the body is the eye; if then your eye is true, all your body will be full of light.The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body will be light:
Matthew 6:23but if your eyesight is bad, your whole body will be dark. If however the very light within you is darkness, how dense must the darkness be!But if your eye is evil, all your body will be dark. If then the light which is in you is dark, how dark it will be!but if thine eye be wicked, thy whole body will be dark. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great the darkness!
Matthew 6:24"No man can be the bondservant of two masters; for either he will dislike one and like the other, or he will attach himself to one and think slightingly of the other. You cannot be the bondservants both of God and of gold.No man is able to be a servant to two masters: for he will have hate for the one and love for the other, or he will keep to one and have no respect for the other. You may not be servants of God and of wealth.No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and will love the other, or he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Matthew 6:25For this reason I charge you not to be over-anxious about your lives, inquiring what you are to eat or what you are to drink, nor yet about your bodies, inquiring what clothes you are to put on. Is not the life more precious than its food, and the body than its clothing?So I say to you, Take no thought for your life, about food or drink, or about clothing for your body. Is not life more than food, and the body more than its clothing?For this cause I say unto you, Do not be careful about your life, what ye should eat and what ye should drink; nor for your body what ye should put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment?
Matthew 6:26Look at the birds which fly in the air: they do not sow or reap or store up in barns, but your Heavenly Father feeds them: are not you of much greater value than they?See the birds of heaven; they do not put seeds in the earth, they do not get in grain, or put it in store-houses; and your Father in heaven gives them food. Are you not of much more value than they?Look at the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, nor reap, nor gather into granaries, and your heavenly Father nourishes them. Are *ye* not much more excellent than they?
Matthew 6:27Which of you by being over-anxious can add a single foot to his height?And which of you by taking thought is able to make himself a cubit taller?But which of you by carefulness can add to his growth one cubit?
Matthew 6:28And why be anxious about clothing? Learn a lesson from the wild lilies. Watch their growth. They neither toil nor spin,And why are you troubled about clothing? See the flowers of the field, how they come up; they do no work, they make no thread:And why are ye careful about clothing? Observe with attention the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin;
Matthew 6:29and yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his magnificence could array himself like one of these.But I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.but I say unto you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed as one of these.
Matthew 6:30And if God so clothes the wild herbage which to-day flourishes and to-morrow is thrown into the oven, is it not much more certain that He will clothe you, you men of little faith?But if God gives such clothing to the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is put into the oven, will he not much more give you clothing, O you of little faith?But if God so clothe the herbage of the field, which is to-day, and to-morrow is cast into [the] oven, will he not much rather you, O [ye] of little faith?
Matthew 6:31Do not be over-anxious, therefore, asking `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?'Then do not be full of care, saying, What are we to have for food or drink? or, With what may we be clothed?Be not therefore careful, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we put on?
Matthew 6:32For all these are questions that Gentiles are always asking; but your Heavenly Father knows that you need these things all of them.Because the Gentiles go in search of all these things: for your Father in heaven has knowledge that you have need of all these things:for all these things the nations seek after; for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things.
Matthew 6:33But make His Kingdom and righteousness your chief aim, and then these things shall all be given you in addition.But let your first care be for his kingdom and his righteousness; and all these other things will be given to you in addition.But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 6:34Do not be over-anxious, therefore, about to-morrow, for to-morrow will bring its own cares. Enough for each day are its own troubles.Then have no care for tomorrow: tomorrow will take care of itself. Take the trouble of the day as it comes.Be not careful therefore for the morrow, for the morrow shall be careful about itself. Sufficient to the day [is] its own evil.
