Acts 14:1 | At Iconium the Apostles went together to the Jewish synagogue and preached, with the result that a great number both of Jews and Greeks believed. | Now in Iconium they went together to the Synagogue of the Jews and gave such teaching that a great number of Jews and Greeks had faith. | And it came to pass in Iconium, that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke that a very great multitude both of the Jews and of the Greeks did believe. |
Acts 14:2 | But the Jews who had refused obedience stirred up the Gentiles and embittered their minds against the brethren. | But those Jews who had not the faith, made the minds of the Gentiles bitter against the brothers. | But the unbelieving Jews stirred up and incensed the minds of the Gentiles against the brethren. |
Acts 14:3 | Yet Paul and Barnabas remained there for a considerable time, speaking freely and relying on the Lord, while He bore witness to the Message of His grace by permitting signs and marvels to be done by them. | So they kept there for a long time, taking heart in the Lord, who gave witness to the word of his grace by causing signs and wonders to be done by their hands. | A long time therefore they abode there, dealing confidently in the Lord, who gave testimony to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. |
Acts 14:4 | At length the people of the city split into parties, some siding with the Jews and some with the Apostles. | But there was a division among the people of the town; some were on the side of the Jews and some on the side of the Apostles. | And the multitude of the city was divided; and some of them indeed held with the Jews, but some with the apostles. |
Acts 14:5 | And when a hostile movement was made by both Gentiles and Jews, with the sanction of their magistrates, to maltreat and stone them, | And when a violent attempt was made by the Gentiles and the Jews, with their rulers, to make an attack on them and have them stoned, | And when there was an assault made by the Gentiles and the Jews with their rulers, to use them contumeliously, and to stone them: |
Acts 14:6 | the Apostles, having become aware of it, made their escape into the Lycaonian towns of Lystra and Derbe, and the neighbouring country. | Having got news of it, they went in flight to the towns of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and the country round about: | They understanding it, fled to Lystra, and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the whole country round about, and were there preaching the gospel. |
Acts 14:7 | And there they continued to tell the Good News. | And went on preaching the good news there. | And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked. |
Acts 14:8 | Now a man who had no power in his feet used to sit in the streets of Lystra. He had been lame from his birth and had never walked. | And at Lystra there was a certain man, who from birth had been without the use of his feet, never having had the power of walking. | This same heard Paul speaking. Who looking upon him, and seeing that he had faith to be healed, |
Acts 14:9 | After this man had listened to one of Paul's sermons, the Apostle, looking steadily at him and perceiving that he had faith to be cured, | This man was giving ear to the preaching of Paul, who, looking at him, and seeing that he had faith to be made well, | Said with a loud voice: Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped up, and walked. |
Acts 14:10 | said in a loud voice, "Stand upright upon your feet!" | Said in a loud voice, Get up on your feet. And, jumping up, he went walking about. | And when the multitudes had seen what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice in the Lycaonian tongue, saying: The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men; |
Acts 14:11 | So he sprang up and began to walk about. Then the crowds, seeing what Paul had done, rent the air with their shouts in the Lycaonian language, saying, "The gods have assumed human form and have come down to us." | And when the people saw what Paul had done, they said in a loud voice, in the language of Lycaonia, The gods have come down to us in the form of men. | And they called Barnabas, Jupiter: but Paul, Mercury; because he was chief speaker. |
Acts 14:12 | They called Barnabas `Zeus,' and Paul, as being the principal speaker, `Hermes.' | And they gave the name of Jupiter to Barnabas, and to Paul that of Mercury, because he was the chief talker. | The priest also of Jupiter that was before the city, bringing oxen and garlands before the gate, would have offered sacrifice with the people. |
Acts 14:13 | And the priest of Zeus the temple of Zeus being at the entrance to the city brought bullocks and garlands to the gates, and in company with the crowd was intending to offer sacrifices to them. | And the priest of the image of Jupiter, which was before the town, took oxen and flowers to the doors of the town, and was about to make an offering with the people. | Which, when the apostles Barnabas and Paul had heard, rending their clothes, they leaped out among the people, crying, |
Acts 14:14 | But the Apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it; and tearing their clothes they rushed out into the middle of the crowd, exclaiming, "Sirs, why are you doing all this? | But when this came to the ears of the Apostles, Paul and Barnabas, they went running out among the people, parting their clothing, and crying out, | And saying: Ye men, why do ye these things? We also are mortals, men like unto you, preaching to you to be converted from these vain things, to the living God, who made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them: |
Acts 14:15 | We also are but men, with natures kindred to your own; and we bring you the Good News that you are to turn from these unreal things, to worship the ever-living God, the Creator of earth and sky and sea and of everything that is in them. | Good people, why are you doing these things? We are men with the same feelings as you, and we give you the good news so that you may be turned away from these foolish things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all things in them: | Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways. |
Acts 14:16 | In times gone by He allowed all the nations to go their own ways; | Who in the past let all nations go in the ways which seemed good to them. | Nevertheless he left not himself without testimony, doing good from heaven, giving rains and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. |
Acts 14:17 | and yet by His beneficence He has not left His existence unattested His beneficence, I mean, in sending you rain from Heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and joyfulness." | But he was not without witness, because he did good, and gave you rain from heaven and times of fruit, making your hearts full of food and joy. | And speaking these things, they scarce restrained the people from sacrificing to them. |
Acts 14:18 | Even with words like these they had difficulty in preventing the thronging crowd from offering sacrifices to them. | And even with these words, it was hard for them to keep the people from making an offering to them. | Now there came thither certain Jews from Antioch, and Iconium: and persuading the multitude, and stoning Paul, drew him out of the city, thinking him to be dead. |
Acts 14:19 | But now a party of Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and, having won over the crowd, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the town, believing him to be dead. | But some Jews came to that place from Antioch and Iconium, and got control over the people; and after stoning Paul, they had him pulled out of the town, taking him for dead. | But as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up and entered into the city, and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. |
Acts 14:20 | When, however, the disciples had collected round him, he rose and went back into the town. The next day he went with Barnabas to Derbe; | But when the disciples came round him, he got up and went into the town: and the day after he went away with Barnabas to Derbe. | And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch: |
Acts 14:21 | and, after proclaiming the Good News to the people there and gaining a large number of converts, they retraced their steps to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch. | And having made a number of disciples through the preaching of the good news in that town, they went back to Lystra and Iconium and Antioch, | Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith: and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God. |
Acts 14:22 | Everywhere they strengthened the disciples by encouraging them to hold fast to the faith, and warned them saying, "It is through many afflictions that we must make our way into the Kingdom of God." | Making strong the souls of the disciples, saying to them that they were to keep the faith, and that we have to go through troubles of all sorts to come into the kingdom of God. | And when they had ordained to them priests in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, in whom they believed. |
Acts 14:23 | And in every Church, after prayer and fasting, they selected Elders by show of hands, and commended them to the Lord on whom their faith rested. | And when they had made selection of some to be rulers in every church, and had given themselves to prayer and kept themselves from food, they put them into the care of the Lord in whom they had faith. | And passing through Pisidia, they came into Pamphylia. |
Acts 14:24 | Then passing through Pisidia they came into Pamphylia; | And they went through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia. | And having spoken the word of the Lord in Perge, they went down into Attalia: |
Acts 14:25 | and after telling the Message at Perga they came down to Attaleia. | And, after preaching the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia; | And thence they sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been delivered to the grace of God, unto the work which they accomplished. |
Acts 14:26 | Thence they sailed to Antioch, where they had previously been commended to the grace of God in connexion with the work which they had now completed. | And from there they went by ship to Antioch, where they had been handed over to the grace of God for the work which they had not done. | And when they were come, and had assembled the church, they related what great things God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. |
Acts 14:27 | Upon their arrival they called the Church together and proceeded to report in detail all that God, working with them, had done, and how He had opened for the Gentiles the door of faith. | And when they came there, and had got the church together, they gave them an account of all the things which God had done through them, and how he had made open a door of faith to the Gentiles. | And they abode no small time with the disciples. |
Acts 14:28 | And they remained a considerable time in Antioch with the disciples. | And they were with the disciples there for a long time. | |
