1st-Corinthians 2:1 | And as for myself, brethren, when I came to you, it was not with surpassing power of eloquence or earthly wisdom that I came, announcing to you that which God had commanded me to bear witness to. | And when I came to you, my brothers, I did not come with wise words of knowledge, putting before you the secret of God. | When I came to you, brothers, I didn't come with excellence of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. |
1st-Corinthians 2:2 | For I determined to be utterly ignorant, when among you, of everything except of Jesus Christ, and of Him as having been crucified. | For I had made the decision to have knowledge of nothing among you but only of Jesus Christ on the cross. | For I determined not to know anything among you, except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. |
1st-Corinthians 2:3 | And so far as I myself was concerned, I came to you in conscious feebleness and in fear and in deep anxiety. | And I was with you without strength, in fear and in doubt. | I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. |
1st-Corinthians 2:4 | And my language and the Message that I proclaimed were not adorned with persuasive words of earthly wisdom, but depended upon truths which the Spirit taught and mightily carried home; | And in my preaching there were no honeyed words of wisdom, but I was dependent on the power of the Spirit to make it clear to you: | My speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, |
1st-Corinthians 2:5 | so that your trust might rest not on the wisdom of man but on the power of God. | So that your faith might be based not on man's wisdom but on the power of God. | that your faith wouldn't stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. |
1st-Corinthians 2:6 | Yet when we are among mature believers we do speak words of wisdom; a wisdom not belonging, however, to the present age nor to the leaders of the present age who are soon to pass away. | But still we have wisdom for those who are complete in knowledge, though not the wisdom of this world, and not of the rulers of this world, who are coming to nothing: | We speak wisdom, however, among those who are full grown; yet a wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who are coming to nothing. |
1st-Corinthians 2:7 | But in dealing with truths hitherto kept secret we speak of God's wisdom that hidden wisdom which, before the world began, God pre-destined, so that it should result in glory to us; | But we give the news of the secret wisdom of God, which he had kept in store before the world came into existence, for our glory; | But we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the wisdom that has been hidden, which God foreordained before the worlds to our glory, |
1st-Corinthians 2:8 | a wisdom which not one of the leaders of the present age possesses, for if they had possessed it, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory. | Of which not one of the rulers of this world had knowledge: for if they had, they would not have put the Lord of glory on the cross: | which none of the rulers of this world has known. For had they known it, they wouldn't have crucified the Lord of glory. |
1st-Corinthians 2:9 | But to use the words of Scripture we speak of things which eye has not seen nor ear heard, and which have never entered the heart of man: all that God has in readiness for them that love Him. | But as it says in the holy Writings, Things which the eye saw not, and which had not come to the ears or into the heart of man, such things as God has made ready for those who have love for him. | But as it is written, "Things which eye didn't see, and ear didn't hear, Which didn't enter into the heart of man, Whatever things God prepared for those who love him." |
1st-Corinthians 2:10 | For us, however, God has drawn aside the veil through the teaching of the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything, including the depths of the divine nature. | But God has given us the revelation of these things through his Spirit, for the Spirit makes search into all things, even the deep things of God. | But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. |
1st-Corinthians 2:11 | For, among human beings, who knows a man's inner thoughts except the man's own spirit within him? In the same way, also, only God's Spirit is acquainted with God's inner thoughts. | For who has knowledge of the things of a man but the spirit of the man which is in him? in the same way, no one has knowledge of the things of God but the Spirit of God. | For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God, except God's Spirit. |
1st-Corinthians 2:12 | But we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which comes forth from God, that we may know the blessings that have been so freely given to us by God. | But we have not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which comes from God, so that we may have knowledge of the things which are freely given to us by God. | But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might know the things that were freely given to us by God. |
1st-Corinthians 2:13 | Of these we speak not in language which man's wisdom teaches us, but in that which the Spirit teaches adapting, as we do, spiritual words to spiritual truths. | And these are the things which we say, not in the language of man's wisdom, but in words given to us by the Spirit, judging the things of the spirit by the help of the Spirit. | Which things also we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things. |
1st-Corinthians 2:14 | The unspiritual man rejects the things of the Spirit of God, and cannot attain to the knowledge of them, because they are spiritually judged. | For the natural man is not able to take in the things of the Spirit of God: for they seem foolish to him, and he is not able to have knowledge of them, because such knowledge comes only through the Spirit. | Now the natural man doesn't receive the things of the God's Spirit, for they are foolishness to him, and he can't know them, because they are spiritually discerned. |
1st-Corinthians 2:15 | But the spiritual man judges of everything, although he is himself judged by no one. | But he who has the Spirit, though judging all things, is himself judged by no one. | But he who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is judged by no one. |
1st-Corinthians 2:16 | For who has penetrated the mind of the Lord, and will instruct Him? But *we* have the mind of Christ. | For who has knowledge of the mind of the Lord, so as to be his teacher? But we have the mind of Christ. | "For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him?" But we have Christ's mind. |
