2nd-Peter 2:1But there were also false prophets among the people, as there will be teachers of falsehood among you also, who will cunningly introduce fatal divisions, disowning even the Sovereign Lord who has redeemed them, and bringing on themselves swift destruction.But there were false prophets among the people, as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly put forward wrong teachings for your destruction, even turning away from the Lord who gave himself for them; whose destruction will come quickly, and they themselves will be the cause of it.But there also arose false prophets among the people, as among you also there will be false teachers, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master who bought them, bringing on themselves swift destruction.
2nd-Peter 2:2And in their immoral ways they will have many eager disciples, through whom religion will be brought into disrepute.And a great number will go with them in their evil ways, through whom the true way will have a bad name.Many will follow their destructive ways, and as a result, the way of the truth will be maligned.
2nd-Peter 2:3Thirsting for riches, they will trade on you with their canting talk. From of old their judgement has been working itself out, and their destruction has not been slumbering.And in their desire for profit they will come to you with words of deceit, like traders doing business in souls: whose punishment has been ready for a long time and their destruction is watching for them.In covetousness will they exploit you with deceptive words: whose sentence now from of old doesn't linger, and their destruction will not slumber.
2nd-Peter 2:4For God did not spare angels when they had sinned, but hurling them down to Tartarus consigned them to caves of darkness, keeping them in readiness for judgement.For if God did not have pity for the angels who did evil, but sent them down into hell, to be kept in chains of eternal night till they were judged;For if God didn't spare angels when they sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved to judgment;
2nd-Peter 2:5And He did not spare the ancient world, although He preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a deluge on the world of the ungodly.And did not have mercy on the world which then was, but only kept safe Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when he let loose the waters over the world of the evil-doers;and didn't spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood on the world of the ungodly;
2nd-Peter 2:6He reduced to ashes the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and condemned them to overthrow, making them an example to people who might in future be living godless lives.And sent destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah, burning them up with fire as an example to those whose way of life might in the future be unpleasing to him;and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly;
2nd-Peter 2:7But when righteous Lot was sore distressed by the gross misconduct of immoral men He rescued him.And kept safe Lot, the upright man, who was deeply troubled by the unclean life of the evil-doersand delivered righteous Lot, very distressed by the lustful life of the wicked
2nd-Peter 2:8(For their lawless deeds were torture, day after day, to the pure soul of that righteous man all that he saw and heard whilst living in their midst.)(Because the soul of that upright man living among them was pained from day to day by seeing and hearing their crimes):(for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, tormented his righteous soul from day to day with lawless deeds):
2nd-Peter 2:9Since all this is so, the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from temptation, and on the other hand how to keep the unrighteous under punishment in readiness for the Day of Judgement,The Lord is able to keep the upright safe in the time of testing, and to keep evil-doers under punishment till the day of judging;the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment to the day of judgment;
2nd-Peter 2:10and especially those who are abandoned to sensuality craving, as they do, for polluted things, and scorning control. Fool-hardy and self-willed, they do not tremble when speaking evil of glorious beings;But specially those who go after the unclean desires of the flesh, and make sport of authority. Ready to take chances, uncontrolled, they have no fear of saying evil of those in high places:but chiefly those who walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise authority. Daring, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries;
2nd-Peter 2:11while angels, though greater than they in might and power, do not bring any insulting accusation against such in the presence of the Lord.Though the angels, who are greater in strength and power, do not make use of violent language against them before the Lord.whereas angels, though greater in might and power, don't bring a railing judgment against them before the Lord.
2nd-Peter 2:12But these men, like brute beasts, created (with their natural instincts) only to be captured or destroyed, are abusive in matters of which they are ignorant, and in their corruption will perish,But these men, like beasts without reason, whose natural use is to be taken and put to death, crying out against things of which they have no knowledge, will undergo that same destruction which they are designing for others;But these, as creatures without reason, born mere animals to be taken and destroyed, speaking evil in matters about which they are ignorant, will in their destroying surely be destroyed,
2nd-Peter 2:13being doomed to receive a requital for their guilt. They reckon it pleasure to feast daintily in broad daylight. They are spots and blemishes, while feeding luxuriously at their love-feasts, and banqueting with you.For the evil which overtakes them is the reward of their evil-doing: such men take their pleasure in the delights of the flesh even in the daytime; they are like the marks of a disease, like poisoned wounds among you, feasting together with you in joy;receiving the wages of unrighteousness; people who count it pleasure to revel in the day-time, spots and blemishes, reveling in their deceit while they feast with you;
2nd-Peter 2:14Their very eyes are full of adultery being eyes which never cease from sin. These men set traps to catch unstedfast souls, their own hearts being well trained in greed. They are fore-doomed to God's curse!Having eyes full of evil desire, never having enough of sin; turning feeble souls out of the true way; they are children of cursing, whose hearts are well used to bitter envy;having eyes full of adultery, and who can't cease from sin; enticing unsettled souls; having a heart trained in greed; children of cursing;
2nd-Peter 2:15Forsaking the straight road, they have gone astray, having eagerly followed in the steps of Balaam, the son of Beor, who was bent on securing the wages of unrighteousness.Turning out of the true way, they have gone wandering in error, after the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who was pleased to take payment for wrongdoing;forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of wrong-doing;
2nd-Peter 2:16But he was rebuked for his transgression: a dumb ass spoke with a human voice and checked the madness of the Prophet.But his wrongdoing was pointed out to him: an ass, talking with a man's voice, put a stop to the error of the prophet.but he was rebuked for his own disobedience. A mute donkey spoke with man's voice and stopped the madness of the prophet.
2nd-Peter 2:17These people are wells without water, mists driven along by a storm, men for whom the dense darkness has been reserved.These are fountains without water, and mists before a driving storm; for whom the eternal night is kept in store.These are wells without water, clouds driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved forever.
2nd-Peter 2:18For, while they pour out their frivolous and arrogant talk, they use earthly cravings every kind of immorality as a bait to entrap men who are just escaping from the influence of those who live in error.For with high-sounding false words, making use of the attraction of unclean desires of the flesh, they get into their power those newly made free from those who are living in error;For, uttering great swelling words of emptiness, they entice in the lusts of the flesh, by licentiousness, those who are indeed escaping from those who live in error;
2nd-Peter 2:19And they promise them freedom, although they are themselves the slaves of what is corrupt. For a man is the slave of any one by whom he has been worsted in fight.Saying that they will be free, while they themselves are the servants of destruction; because whatever gets the better of a man makes a servant of him.promising them liberty, while they themselves are bondservants of corruption; for by whom a man is overcome, by the same is he also brought into bondage.
2nd-Peter 2:20For if, after escaping from the pollutions of the world through a full knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, people are once more entangled in these pollutions and are overcome, their last state has become worse than their first.For if, after they have got free from the unclean things of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again taken in the net and overcome, their last condition is worse than their first.For if, after they have escaped the defilement of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state has become worse with them than the first.
2nd-Peter 2:21For it would have been better for them not to have fully known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandments in which they were instructed.For it would have been better for them to have had no knowledge of the way of righteousness, than to go back again from the holy law which was given to them, after having knowledge of it.For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.
2nd-Peter 2:22Their case is that described in the true proverb, "A dog returns to what he has vomited," and also in the other proverb, "The sow has washed itself and now goes back to roll in its filth."They are an example of that true saying, The dog has gone back to the food it had put out, and the pig which had been washed to its rolling in the dirty earth.But it has happened to them according to the true proverb, "The dog turns to his own vomit again," and "the sow that had washed to wallowing in the mire."
