John 7:1 | After this Jesus moved from place to place in Galilee. He would not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were seeking an opportunity to kill Him. | After this, Jesus went from place to place in Galilee. He did not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were looking for a chance to put him to death. | After these things, Jesus walked in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him. |
John 7:2 | But the Jewish Festival of the Tent-Pitching was approaching. | But the feast of the Jews, the feast of tents, was near. | Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was at hand. |
John 7:3 | So His brothers said to Him, "Leave these parts and go into Judaea, that not only we but your disciples also may witness the miracles which you perform. | So his brothers said to him, Go away from here into Judaea so that your disciples may see the works which you do. | His brothers therefore said to him, "Depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do. |
John 7:4 | For no one acts in secret, desiring all the while to be himself known publicly. Since you are doing these things, show yourself openly to the world." | Because no man does things secretly if he has a desire that men may have knowledge of him. If you do these things, let yourself be seen by all men. | For no man does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world." |
John 7:5 | For even His brothers were not believers in Him. | For even his brothers had no belief in him. | For even his brothers didn't believe in him. |
John 7:6 | "My time," replied Jesus, "has not yet come, but for you any time is suitable. | Jesus said to them, My time is still to come, but any time is good for you. | Jesus therefore said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready. |
John 7:7 | It is impossible for the world to hate you; but me it does hate, because I give testimony concerning it that its conduct is evil. | It is not possible for you to be hated by the world; but I am hated by it, because I give witness that what it does is evil. | The world can't hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil. |
John 7:8 | As for you, go up to the Festival. I do not now go up to this Festival, because my time is not yet fully come." | Go you up to the feast: I am not going up now to the feast because my time has not fully come. | You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled." |
John 7:9 | Such was His answer, and He remained in Galilee. | Having said these things to them, he still kept in Galilee. | Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee. |
John 7:10 | When however His brothers had gone up to the Festival, then He also went up, not openly, but as it were privately. | But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he went up, not publicly, but in secret. | But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret. |
John 7:11 | Meanwhile the Jews at the Festival were looking for Him and were inquiring, "Where is he?" | At the feast the Jews were looking for him and saying, Where is he? | The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, "Where is he?" |
John 7:12 | Among the mass of the people there was much muttered debate about Him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so: he is imposing on the people." | And there was much discussion about him among the mass of the people. Some said, He is a good man; but others said, No, he is giving people false ideas. | There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so, but he leads the multitude astray." |
John 7:13 | Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke out boldly about Him. | But no man said anything about him openly for fear of the Jews. | Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews. |
John 7:14 | But when the Festival was already half over, Jesus went up to the Temple and commenced teaching. | Now in the middle of the feast Jesus went up to the Temple and was teaching. | But when it was now the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught. |
John 7:15 | The Jews were astonished. "How does this man know anything of books," they said, "although he has never been at any of the schools?" | Then the Jews were surprised and said, How has this man got knowledge of books? He has never been to school. | The Jews therefore marveled, saying, "How does this man know letters, having never been educated?" |
John 7:16 | Jesus answered their question by saying, "My teaching does not belong to me, but comes from Him who sent me. | Jesus gave them this answer: It is not my teaching, but his who sent me. | Jesus therefore answered them, "My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. |
John 7:17 | If any one is willing to do His will, he shall know about the teaching, whether it is from God or originates with me. | If any man is ready to do God's pleasure he will have knowledge of the teaching and of where it comes from from God or from myself. | If anyone desires to do his will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I speak from myself. |
John 7:18 | The man whose teaching originates with himself aims at his own glory. He who aims at the glory of Him who sent him teaches the truth, and there is no deception in him. | The man whose words come from himself is looking for glory for himself, but he who is looking for the glory of him who sent him that man is true and there is no evil in him. | He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. |
John 7:19 | Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not a man of you obeys the Law. Why do you want to kill me?" | Did not Moses give you the law? Even so, not one of you keeps the law. Why have you a desire to put me to death? | Didn't Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?" |
John 7:20 | "You are possessed by a demon," replied the crowd; "no one wants to kill you." | The people said in answer, You have an evil spirit: who has any desire to put you to death? | The multitude answered, "You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?" |
John 7:21 | "One deed I have done," replied Jesus, "and you are all full of wonder. | This was the answer of Jesus: I have done one work and you are all surprised at it. | Jesus answered them, "I did one work, and you all marvel because of it. |
John 7:22 | Consider therefore. Moses gave you the rite of circumcision (not that it began with Moses, but with your earlier forefathers), and even on a Sabbath day you circumcise a child. | Moses gave you circumcision not that it comes from Moses, but from the fathers and even on the Sabbath you give a child circumcision. | Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy. |
John 7:23 | If a child is circumcised even on a Sabbath day, are you bitter against me because I have restored a man to perfect health on a Sabbath day? | If a child is given circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath? | If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man every bit whole on the Sabbath? |
John 7:24 | Do not form superficial judgements, but form the judgements that are just." | Let not your decisions be based on what you see, but on righteousness. | Don't judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment." |
John 7:25 | Some however of the people of Jerusalem said, "Is not this the man they are wanting to kill? | Then some of the people of Jerusalem said, Is not this the man whose death is desired? | Some therefore of them of Jerusalem said, "Isn't this he whom they seek to kill? |
John 7:26 | But here he is, speaking openly and boldly, and they say nothing to him! Can the Rulers really have ascertained that this man is the Christ? | And here he is talking openly and they say nothing to him! Is it possible that the rulers have knowledge that this is truly the Christ? | Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ? |
John 7:27 | And yet we know this man, and we know where he is from; but as for the Christ, when He comes, no one can tell where He is from." | However, it is clear to us where this man comes from: but when the Christ comes no one will have knowledge where he comes from. | However we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from." |
John 7:28 | Jesus therefore, while teaching in the Temple, cried aloud, and said, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. And yet I have not come of my own accord; but there is One who has sent me, an Authority indeed, of whom you have no knowledge. | Then, when he was teaching in the Temple, Jesus said with a loud voice, You have knowledge of me and you have knowledge of where I come from; and I have not come of myself; but there is One who has sent me; he is true, but you have no knowledge of him. | Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, "You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don't know. |
John 7:29 | I know Him, because I came from Him, and He sent me." | I have knowledge of him because I came from him and he sent me. | I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me." |
John 7:30 | On hearing this they wanted to arrest Him; yet not a hand was laid on Him, because His time had not yet come. | Then they had a desire to take him: but no man put hands on him because his hour was still to come. | They sought therefore to take him. No one laid a hand on him, because his hour was not yet come. |
John 7:31 | But from among the crowd a large number believed in Him. "When the Christ comes," they said, "will He perform more miracles than this teacher has performed?" | And numbers of the people had belief in him, and they said, When the Christ comes will he do more signs than this man has done? | But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, "When the Christ comes, will he do more signs than those which this man has done?" |
John 7:32 | The Pharisees heard the people thus expressing their various doubts about Him, and the High Priests and the Pharisees sent some officers to apprehend Him. | This discussion of the people came to the ears of the Pharisees; and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent servants to take him. | The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to take him. |
John 7:33 | So Jesus said, "Still for a short time I am with you, and then I go my way to Him who sent me. | Then Jesus said, I will be with you a little longer and then I go to him who sent me. | Then Jesus said, "Yet a little while, am I with you, then I go to him who sent me. |
John 7:34 | You will look for me and will not find me, and where I am you cannot come." | You will be looking for me, and you will not see me: and where I am you may not come. | You will seek me, and won't find me; and where I am, you can't come." |
John 7:35 | The Jews therefore said to one another, "Where is he about to betake himself, so that we shall not find him? Will he betake himself to the Dispersion among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? | So the Jews said among themselves, To what place is he going where we will not see him? will he go to the Jews living among the Greeks and become the teacher of the Greeks? | The Jews therefore said among themselves, "Where will this man go that we won't find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks? |
John 7:36 | What do those words of his mean, `You will look for me, but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come'?" | What is this saying of his, You will be looking for me and will not see me, and where I am you may not come? | What is this word that he said, 'You will seek me, and won't find me; and where I am, you can't come?'" |
John 7:37 | On the last day of the Festival the great day Jesus stood up and cried aloud. "Whoever is thirsty," He said, "let him come to me and drink. | On the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus got up and said in a loud voice, If any man is in need of drink let him come to me and I will give it to him. | Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink! |
John 7:38 | He who believes in me, from within him as the Scripture has said rivers of living water shall flow." | He who has faith in me, out of his body, as the Writings have said, will come rivers of living water. | He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water." |
John 7:39 | He referred to the Spirit which those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not bestowed as yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified. | This he said of the Spirit which would be given to those who had faith in him: the Spirit had not been given then, because the glory of Jesus was still to come. | But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn't yet glorified. |
John 7:40 | After listening to these discourses, some of the crowd began to say, "This is beyond doubt the Prophet." | When these words came to their ears, some of the people said, This is certainly the prophet. | Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, "This is truly the prophet." |
John 7:41 | Others said, "He is the Christ." But others again, "Not so, for is the Christ to come from Galilee? | Others said, This is the Christ. But others said, Not so; will the Christ come from Galilee? | Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "What, does the Christ come out of Galilee? |
John 7:42 | Has not the Scripture declared that the Christ is to come of the family of David and from Bethlehem, David's village?" | Do not the Writings say that the Christ comes of the seed of David and from Beth-lehem, the little town where David was? | Hasn't the scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?" |
John 7:43 | So there was a violent dissension among the people on His account. | So there was a division among the people because of him. | So there arose a division in the multitude because of him. |
John 7:44 | Some of them wanted at once to arrest Him, but no one laid hands upon Him. | And some of them had a desire to take him; but no man put hands on him. | Some of them would have taken him, but no one laid hands on him. |
John 7:45 | Meanwhile the officers returned to the High Priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why have you not brought him?" | Then the servants went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, Why have you not got him with you? | The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, "Why didn't you bring him?" |
John 7:46 | "No mere man has ever spoken as this man speaks," said the officers. | The servants made answer, No man ever said things like this man. | The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man!" |
John 7:47 | "Are *you* deluded too?" replied the Pharisees; | Then the Pharisees said to them, Have you, like the others, been given false ideas? | The Pharisees therefore answered them, "Are you also led astray? |
John 7:48 | "has any one of the Rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? | Have any of the rulers belief in him, or any one of the Pharisees? | Has any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees? |
John 7:49 | But this rabble who understand nothing about the Law are accursed!" | But these people who have no knowledge of the law are cursed. | But this cursed multitude doesn't know the law." |
John 7:50 | Nicodemus interposed he who had formerly gone to Jesus, being himself one of them. | Nicodemus he who had come to Jesus before, being himself one of them said to them, | Nicodemus (he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them, |
John 7:51 | "Does our Law," he asked, "judge a man without first hearing what he has to say and ascertaining what his conduct is?" | Is a man judged by our law before it has given him a hearing and has knowledge of what he has done? | "Does our law judge a man, unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?" |
John 7:52 | "Do you also come from Galilee?" they asked in reply. "Search and see for yourself that no Prophet is of Galilaean origin." | This was their answer: And do you come from Galilee? Make search and you will see that no prophet comes out of Galilee. | They answered him, "Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee." |
John 7:53 | [So they went away to their several homes; | [And every man went to his house; | Everyone went to his own house, |
