Acts 14:2 | But the Jews who had refused obedience stirred up the Gentiles and embittered their minds against the brethren. | But those Jews who had not the faith, made the minds of the Gentiles bitter against the brothers. | and the unbelieving Jews did stir up and made evil the souls of the nations against the brethren; |
Acts 14:3 | Yet Paul and Barnabas remained there for a considerable time, speaking freely and relying on the Lord, while He bore witness to the Message of His grace by permitting signs and marvels to be done by them. | So they kept there for a long time, taking heart in the Lord, who gave witness to the word of his grace by causing signs and wonders to be done by their hands. | long time, indeed, therefore, did they abide speaking boldly in the Lord, who is testifying to the word of His grace, and granting signs and wonders to come to pass through their hands. |
Acts 14:4 | At length the people of the city split into parties, some siding with the Jews and some with the Apostles. | But there was a division among the people of the town; some were on the side of the Jews and some on the side of the Apostles. | And the multitude of the city was divided, and some were with the Jews, and some with the apostles, |
Acts 14:5 | And when a hostile movement was made by both Gentiles and Jews, with the sanction of their magistrates, to maltreat and stone them, | And when a violent attempt was made by the Gentiles and the Jews, with their rulers, to make an attack on them and have them stoned, | and when there was a purpose both of the nations and of the Jews with their rulers to use [them] despitefully, and to stone them, |
Acts 14:6 | the Apostles, having become aware of it, made their escape into the Lycaonian towns of Lystra and Derbe, and the neighbouring country. | Having got news of it, they went in flight to the towns of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and the country round about: | they having become aware, did flee to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and to the region round about, |
Acts 14:7 | And there they continued to tell the Good News. | And went on preaching the good news there. | and there they were proclaiming good news. |
Acts 14:8 | Now a man who had no power in his feet used to sit in the streets of Lystra. He had been lame from his birth and had never walked. | And at Lystra there was a certain man, who from birth had been without the use of his feet, never having had the power of walking. | And a certain man in Lystra, impotent in the feet, was sitting, being lame from the womb of his mother who never had walked, |
Acts 14:9 | After this man had listened to one of Paul's sermons, the Apostle, looking steadily at him and perceiving that he had faith to be cured, | This man was giving ear to the preaching of Paul, who, looking at him, and seeing that he had faith to be made well, | this one was hearing Paul speaking, who, having stedfastly beheld him, and having seen that he hath faith to be saved, |
Acts 14:10 | said in a loud voice, "Stand upright upon your feet!" | Said in a loud voice, Get up on your feet. And, jumping up, he went walking about. | said with a loud voice, `Stand up on thy feet upright;` and he was springing and walking, |
Acts 14:11 | So he sprang up and began to walk about. Then the crowds, seeing what Paul had done, rent the air with their shouts in the Lycaonian language, saying, "The gods have assumed human form and have come down to us." | And when the people saw what Paul had done, they said in a loud voice, in the language of Lycaonia, The gods have come down to us in the form of men. | and the multitudes having seen what Paul did, did lift up their voice, in the speech of Lycaonia, saying, `The gods, having become like men, did come down unto us;` |
Acts 14:12 | They called Barnabas `Zeus,' and Paul, as being the principal speaker, `Hermes.' | And they gave the name of Jupiter to Barnabas, and to Paul that of Mercury, because he was the chief talker. | they were calling also Barnabas Zeus, and Paul Hermes, since he was the leader in speaking. |
Acts 14:13 | And the priest of Zeus the temple of Zeus being at the entrance to the city brought bullocks and garlands to the gates, and in company with the crowd was intending to offer sacrifices to them. | And the priest of the image of Jupiter, which was before the town, took oxen and flowers to the doors of the town, and was about to make an offering with the people. | And the priest of the Zeus that is before their city, oxen and garlands unto the porches having brought, with the multitudes did wish to sacrifice, |
Acts 14:14 | But the Apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it; and tearing their clothes they rushed out into the middle of the crowd, exclaiming, "Sirs, why are you doing all this? | But when this came to the ears of the Apostles, Paul and Barnabas, they went running out among the people, parting their clothing, and crying out, | and having heard, the apostles Barnabas and Paul, having rent their garments, did spring into the multitude, crying |
Acts 14:15 | We also are but men, with natures kindred to your own; and we bring you the Good News that you are to turn from these unreal things, to worship the ever-living God, the Creator of earth and sky and sea and of everything that is in them. | Good people, why are you doing these things? We are men with the same feelings as you, and we give you the good news so that you may be turned away from these foolish things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all things in them: | and saying, `Men, why these things do ye? and we are men like-affected with you, proclaiming good news to you, from these vanities to turn unto the living God, who made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all the things in them; |
Acts 14:16 | In times gone by He allowed all the nations to go their own ways; | Who in the past let all nations go in the ways which seemed good to them. | who in the past generations did suffer all the nations to go on in their ways, |
Acts 14:17 | and yet by His beneficence He has not left His existence unattested His beneficence, I mean, in sending you rain from Heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and joyfulness." | But he was not without witness, because he did good, and gave you rain from heaven and times of fruit, making your hearts full of food and joy. | though, indeed, without witness He did not leave himself, doing good from heaven giving rains to us, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness;` |
Acts 14:18 | Even with words like these they had difficulty in preventing the thronging crowd from offering sacrifices to them. | And even with these words, it was hard for them to keep the people from making an offering to them. | and these things saying, scarcely did they restrain the multitudes from sacrificing to them. |
Acts 14:19 | But now a party of Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and, having won over the crowd, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the town, believing him to be dead. | But some Jews came to that place from Antioch and Iconium, and got control over the people; and after stoning Paul, they had him pulled out of the town, taking him for dead. | And there came thither, from Antioch and Iconium, Jews, and they having persuaded the multitudes, and having stoned Paul, drew him outside of the city, having supposed him to be dead; |
Acts 14:20 | When, however, the disciples had collected round him, he rose and went back into the town. The next day he went with Barnabas to Derbe; | But when the disciples came round him, he got up and went into the town: and the day after he went away with Barnabas to Derbe. | and the disciples having surrounded him, having risen he entered into the city, and on the morrow he went forth with Barnabas to Derbe. |

Acts 14:23 | And in every Church, after prayer and fasting, they selected Elders by show of hands, and commended them to the Lord on whom their faith rested. | And when they had made selection of some to be rulers in every church, and had given themselves to prayer and kept themselves from food, they put them into the care of the Lord in whom they had faith. | and having appointed to them by vote elders in every assembly, having prayed with fastings, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. |
