Luke 19:2 | There was a man there called Zacchaeus, who was the local surveyor of taxes, and was wealthy. | A man, named Zacchaeus, who was the chief tax-farmer, and a man of wealth, | and lo, a man, by name called Zaccheus, and he was a chief tax-gatherer, and he was rich, |
Luke 19:3 | He was anxious to see what sort of man Jesus was; but he could not because of the crowd, for he was short in stature. | Made an attempt to get a view of Jesus, and was not able to do so, because of the people, for he was a small man. | and he was seeking to see Jesus, who he is, and was not able for the multitude, because in stature he was small, |
Luke 19:4 | So he ran on in front and climbed up a mulberry tree to see Him; for He was about to pass that way. | And he went quickly in front of them and got up into a tree to see him, for he was going that way. | and having run forward before, he went up on a sycamore, that he may see him, because through that [way] he was about to pass by. |
Luke 19:5 | As soon as Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for I must stay at your house to-day." | And when Jesus came to the place, looking up, he said to him, Zacchaeus, be quick and come down, for I am coming to your house today. | And as Jesus came up to the place, having looked up, he saw him, and said unto him, `Zaccheus, having hastened, come down, for to-day in thy house it behoveth me to remain;` |
Luke 19:6 | So he came down in haste, and welcomed Him joyfully. | And he came down quickly, and took him into his house with joy. | and he having hastened did come down, and did receive him rejoicing; |
Luke 19:7 | When they all saw this, they began to complain with indignation. "He has gone in to be the guest of a notorious sinner!" they said. | And when they saw it, they were all angry, saying, He has gone into the house of a sinner. | and having seen [it], they were all murmuring, saying `With a sinful man he went in to lodge!` |
Luke 19:8 | Zacchaeus however stood up, and addressing the Lord said, "Here and now, Master, I give half my property to the poor, and if I have unjustly exacted money from any man, I pledge myself to repay to him four times the amount." | And Zacchaeus, waiting before him, said to the Lord, See, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from anyone wrongly, I give him back four times as much. | And Zaccheus having stood, said unto the Lord, `Lo, the half of my goods, sir, I give to the poor, and if of any one anything I did take by false accusation, I give back fourfold.` |
Luke 19:9 | Turning towards him, Jesus replied, "To-day salvation has come to this house, seeing that he too is a son of Abraham. | And Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, for even he is a son of Abraham. | And Jesus said unto him `To-day salvation did come to this house, inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham; |
Luke 19:10 | For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost." | For the Son of man came to make search for those who are wandering from the way, and to be their Saviour. | for the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.` |
Luke 19:11 | As they were listening to His words, He went on to teach them by a parable, because He was near to Jerusalem and they supposed that the Kingdom of God was going to appear immediately. | And while they were giving ear to these words, he made another story for them, because he was near Jerusalem, and because they were of the opinion that the kingdom of God was coming straight away. | And while they are hearing these things, having added he spake a simile, because of his being nigh to Jerusalem, and of their thinking that the reign of God is about presently to be made manifest. |
Luke 19:12 | So He said to them, "A man of noble family travelled to a distant country to obtain the rank of king, and to return. | So he said, A certain man of high birth went into a far-away country to get a kingdom for himself, and to come back. | He said therefore, `A certain man of birth went on to a far country, to take to himself a kingdom, and to return, |
Luke 19:13 | And he called ten of his servants and gave each of them a pound, instructing them to trade with the money during his absence. | And he sent for ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds and said to them, Do business with this till I come. | and having called ten servants of his own, he gave to them ten pounds, and said unto them, Do business till I come; |
Luke 19:14 | "Now his countrymen hated him, and sent a deputation after him to say, `We are not willing that he should become our king.' | But his people had no love for him, and sent representatives after him, saying, We will not have this man for our ruler. | and his citizens were hating him, and did send an embassy after him, saying, We do not wish this one to reign over us. |
Luke 19:15 | And upon his return, after he had obtained the sovereignty, he ordered those servants to whom he had given the money to be summoned before him, that he might learn their success in trading. | And when he came back again, having got his kingdom, he gave orders for those servants to whom he had given the money to come to him, so that he might have an account of what business they had done. | `And it came to pass, on his coming back, having taken the kingdom, that he commanded these servants to be called to him, to whom he gave the money, that he might know what any one had done in business. |
Luke 19:16 | "So the first came and said, "`Sir, your pound has produced ten pounds more.' | And the first came before him, saying, Lord, your pound has made ten pounds. | `And the first came near, saying, Sir, thy pound did gain ten pounds; |

Luke 19:21 | For I was afraid of you, because you are a severe man: you take up what you did not lay down, and you reap what you did not sow.' | Because I was in fear of you, for you are a hard man: you take up what you have not put down, and get in grain where you have not put seed. | for I was afraid of thee, because thou art an austere man; thou takest up what thou didst not lay down, and reapest what thou didst not sow. |
Luke 19:22 | "`By your own words,' he replied, `I will judge you, you bad servant. You knew me to be a severe man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow: | He said to him, By the words of your mouth you will be judged, you bad servant. You had knowledge that I am a hard man, taking up what I have not put down and getting in grain where I have not put seed; | `And he saith to him, Out of thy mouth I will judge thee, evil servant: thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow! |
