Matthew 25:1 | "Then will the Kingdom of the Heavens be found to be like ten bridesmaids who took their torches and went out to meet the bridegroom. | Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, the friends of the bride, who took their lights, and went out with the purpose of meeting the husband. | `Then shall the reign of the heavens be likened to ten virgins, who, having taken their lamps, went forth to meet the bridegroom; |
Matthew 25:2 | Five of them were foolish and five were wise. | And five of them were foolish, and five were wise. | and five of them were prudent, and five foolish; |
Matthew 25:3 | For the foolish, when they took their torches, did not provide themselves with oil; | For the foolish, when they took their lights, took no oil with them. | they who were foolish having taken their lamps, did not take with themselves oil; |
Matthew 25:4 | but the wise, besides their torches, took oil in their flasks. | But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lights. | and the prudent took oil in their vessels, with their lamps. |
Matthew 25:5 | The bridegroom was a long time in coming, so that meanwhile they all became drowsy and fell asleep. | Now the husband was a long time in coming, and they all went to sleep. | `And the bridegroom tarrying, they all nodded and were sleeping, |
Matthew 25:6 | But at midnight there is a loud cry, "`The bridegroom! Go out and meet him!' | But in the middle of the night there is a cry, The husband comes! Go out to him. | and in the middle of the night a cry was made, Lo, the bridegroom doth come; go ye forth to meet him. |
Matthew 25:7 | "Then all those bridesmaids roused themselves and trimmed their torches. | Then all those virgins got up, and made ready their lights. | `Then rose all those virgins, and trimmed their lamps, |
Matthew 25:8 | "`Give us some of your oil,' said the foolish ones to the wise, `for our torches are going out.' | And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lights are going out. | and the foolish said to the prudent, Give us of your oil, because our lamps are going out; |
Matthew 25:9 | "`But perhaps,' replied the wise, `there will not be enough for all of us. Go to the shops rather, and buy some for yourselves.' | But the wise made answer, saying, There may not be enough for us and you; it would be better for you to go to the traders and get oil for yourselves. | and the prudent answered, saying Lest there may not be sufficient for us and you, go ye rather unto those selling, and buy for yourselves. |
Matthew 25:10 | "So they went to buy. But meanwhile the bridegroom came; those bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. | And while they went to get oil, the master came; and those who were ready went in with him to the feast: and the door was shut. | `And while they are going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those ready went in with him to the marriage-feasts, and the door was shut; |
Matthew 25:11 | "Afterwards the other bridesmaids came and cried, "`Sir, Sir, open the door to us.' | After that the other virgins came, saying, Lord, Lord, let us in. | and afterwards come also do the rest of the virgins, saying, Sir, sir, open to us; |
Matthew 25:12 | "`In solemn truth I tell you,' he replied, `I do not know you.' | But he made answer and said, Truly I say to you, I have no knowledge of you. | and he answering said, Verily I say to you, I have not known you. |
Matthew 25:13 | "Keep awake therefore; for you know neither the day nor the hour. | Keep watch, then, because you are not certain of the day or of the hour. | `Watch therefore, for ye have not known the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man doth come. |
Matthew 25:14 | "Why, it is like a man who, when going on his travels, called his bondservants and entrusted his property to their care. | For it is as when a man, about to take a journey, got his servants together, and gave them his property. | `For as a man going abroad did call his own servants, and did deliver to them his substance, |
Matthew 25:15 | To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one to each according to his individual capacity; and then started from home. | And to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to everyone as he was able; and he went on his journey. | and to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to each according to his several ability, went abroad immediately. |
Matthew 25:16 | Without delay the one who had received the five talents went and employed them in business, and gained five more. | Straight away he who had been given the five talents went and did trade with them, and made five more. | `And he who did receive the five talents, having gone, wrought with them, and made other five talents; |
Matthew 25:17 | In the same way he who had the two gained two more. | In the same way he who had been given the two got two more. | in like manner also he who [received] the two, he gained, also he, other two; |
Matthew 25:18 | But the man who had received the one went and dug a hole and buried his master's money. | But he who was given the one went away and put it in a hole in the earth, and kept his lord's money in a secret place. | and he who did receive the one, having gone away, digged in the earth, and hid his lord`s money. |
Matthew 25:19 | "After a long lapse of time the master of those servants returned, and had a reckoning with them. | Now after a long time the lord of those servants comes, and makes up his account with them. | `And after a long time cometh the lord of those servants, and taketh reckoning with them; |
Matthew 25:20 | The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, and said, "`Sir, it was five talents that you entrusted to me: see, I have gained five more.' | And he who had the five talents came with his other five talents, saying, Lord, you gave into my care five talents: see, I have got five more. | and he who did receive the five talents having come, brought other five talents, saying, `Sir, five talents thou didst deliver to me; lo, other five talents did I gain besides them. |
Matthew 25:21 | "`You have done well, good and trustworthy servant,' replied his master; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' | His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord. | `And his lord said to him, Well done, servant, good and faithful, over a few things thou wast faithful, over many things I will set thee; enter into the joy of thy lord. |
Matthew 25:22 | "The second, who had received the two talents, came and said, "`Sir, it was two talents you entrusted to me: see, I have gained two more.' | And he who had the two talents came and said, Lord, you gave into my care two talents: see, I have got two more. | `And he who also did receive the two talents having come, said, Sir, two talents thou didst deliver to me; lo, other two talents I did gain besides them. |
Matthew 25:23 | "`Good and trustworthy servant, you have done well,' his master replied; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' | His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord. | `His lord said to him, Well done, servant, good and faithful, over a few things thou wast faithful, over many things I will set thee; enter into the joy of thy lord. |
Matthew 25:24 | "But, next, the man who had the one talent in his keeping came and said, "`Sir, I knew you to be a severe man, reaping where you had not sown and garnering what you had not winnowed. | And he who had had the one talent came and said, Lord, I had knowledge that you are a hard man, getting in grain where you have not put seed, and making profits for which you have done no work: | `And he also who hath received the one talent having come, said, Sir, I knew thee, that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering from whence thou didst not scatter; |
Matthew 25:25 | So being afraid I went and buried your talent in the ground: there you have what belongs to you.' | And I was in fear, and went away, and put your talent in the earth: here is what is yours. | and having been afraid, having gone away, I hid thy talent in the earth; lo, thou hast thine own! |
Matthew 25:26 | "`You wicked and slothful servant,' replied his master, `did you know that I reap where I have not sown, and garner what I have not winnowed? | But his lord in answer said to him, You are a bad and unready servant; if you had knowledge that I get in grain where I did not put seed, and make profits for which I have done no work, | `And his lord answering said to him, Evil servant, and slothful, thou hadst known that I reap where I did not sow, and I gather whence I did not scatter! |
Matthew 25:27 | Your duty then was to deposit my money in some bank, and so when I came I should have got back my property with interest. | Why, then, did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I would have got back what is mine with interest? | it behoved thee then to put my money to the money-lenders, and having come I had received mine own with increase. |
Matthew 25:28 | So take away the talent from him, and give it to the man who has the ten.' | Take away, then, his talent and give it to him who has the ten talents. | `Take therefore from him the talent, and give to him having the ten talents, |
Matthew 25:29 | (For to every one who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him who has nothing, even what he has shall be taken away.) | For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have more: but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. | for to every one having shall be given, and he shall have overabundance, and from him who is not having, even that which he hath shall be taken from him; |
Matthew 25:30 | `But as for this worthless servant, put him out into the darkness outside: *there* will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.' | And put out the servant who is of no profit into the outer dark: there will be weeping and cries of sorrow. | and the unprofitable servant cast ye forth to the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth. |
Matthew 25:31 | "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then will He sit upon His glorious throne, | But when the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then will he be seated in his glory: | `And whenever the Son of Man may come in his glory, and all the holy messengers with him, then he shall sit upon a throne of his glory; |
Matthew 25:32 | and all the nations will be gathered into His presence. And He will separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; | And before him all the nations will come together; and they will be parted one from another, as the sheep are parted from the goats by the keeper. | and gathered together before him shall be all the nations, and he shall separate them from one another, as the shepherd doth separate the sheep from the goats, |
Matthew 25:33 | and will make the sheep stand at His right hand, and the goats at His left. | And he will put the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. | and he shall set the sheep indeed on his right hand, and the goats on the left. |
Matthew 25:34 | "Then the King will say to those at His right, "`Come, my Father's blessed ones, receive your inheritance of the Kingdom which has been divinely intended for you ever since the creation of the world. | Then will the King say to those on his right, Come, you who have the blessing of my Father, into the kingdom made ready for you before the world was: | `Then shall the king say to those on his right hand, Come ye, the blessed of my Father, inherit the reign that hath been prepared for you from the foundation of the world; |
Matthew 25:35 | For when I was hungry, you gave me food; when I was thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was homeless, you gave me a welcome; | For I was in need of food, and you gave it to me: I was in need of drink, and you gave it to me: I was wandering, and you took me in; | for I did hunger, and ye gave me to eat; I did thirst, and ye gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and ye received me; |
Matthew 25:36 | when I was ill-clad, you clothed me; when I was sick, you visited me; when I was in prison, you came to see me.' | I had no clothing, and you gave it to me: when I was ill, or in prison, you came to me. | naked, and ye put around me; I was infirm, and ye looked after me; in prison I was, and ye came unto me. |
Matthew 25:37 | "`When, Lord,' the righteous will reply, `did we see Thee hungry, and feed Thee; or thirsty, and give Thee drink? | Then will the upright make answer to him, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food, and give it to you? or in need of drink, and give it to you? | `Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungering, and we nourished? or thirsting, and we gave to drink? |
Matthew 25:38 | When did we see Thee homeless, and give Thee a welcome? or ill-clad, and clothe Thee? | And when did we see you wandering, and take you in? or without clothing, and give it to you? | and when did we see thee a stranger, and we received? or naked, and we put around? |
Matthew 25:39 | When did we see Thee sick or in prison, and come to see Thee?' | And when did we see you ill, or in prison, and come to you? | and when did we see thee infirm, or in prison, and we came unto thee? |
Matthew 25:40 | "But the King will answer them, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you rendered such services to one of the humblest of these my brethren, you rendered them to myself.' | And the King will make answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Because you did it to the least of these my brothers, you did it to me. | `And the king answering, shall say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] to one of these my brethren the least to me ye did [it]. |
Matthew 25:41 | "Then will He say to those at His left, "`Begone from me, with the curse resting upon you, into the Fire of the Ages, which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels. | Then will he say to those on the left, Go from me, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire which is ready for the Evil One and his angels: | Then shall he say also to those on the left hand, Go ye from me, the cursed, to the fire, the age-during, that hath been prepared for the Devil and his messengers; |
Matthew 25:42 | For when I was hungry, you gave me nothing to eat; when thirsty, you gave me nothing to drink; | For I was in need of food, and you gave it not to me; I was in need of drink, and you gave it not to me: | for I did hunger, and ye gave me not to eat; I did thirst, and ye gave me not to drink; |
Matthew 25:43 | when homeless, you gave me no welcome; ill-clad, you clothed me not; sick or in prison, you visited me not.' | I was wandering, and you took me not in; without clothing, and you gave me no clothing; ill, and in prison, and you came not to me. | a stranger I was, and ye did not receive me; naked, and ye put not around me; infirm, and in prison, and ye did not look after me. |
Matthew 25:44 | "Then will they also answer, "`Lord, when did we see Thee hungry or thirsty or homeless or ill-clad or sick or in prison, and not come to serve Thee?' | Then will they make answer, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food or drink, or wandering, or without clothing, or ill, or in prison, and did not take care of you? | `Then shall they answer, they also, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or infirm, or in prison, and we did not minister to thee? |
Matthew 25:45 | "But he will reply, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you withheld such services from one of the humblest of these, you withheld them from me.' | Then will he make answer to them, saying, Truly I say to you, Because you did it not to the least of these, you did it not to me. | `Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] not to one of these, the least, ye did [it] not to me. |
Matthew 25:46 | "And these shall go away into the Punishment of the Ages, but the righteous into the Life of the Ages." | And these will go away into eternal punishment; but the upright into eternal life. | And these shall go away to punishment age-during, but the righteous to life age-during.` |
