1st-John 2:1Dear children, I write thus to you in order that you may not sin. If any one sins, we have an Advocate with the Father Jesus Christ the righteous; My children, these things I write to you in order that ye may not sin; and if any one sin, we have a patron with the Father, Jesus Christ [the] righteous; My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may be without sin. And if any man is a sinner, we have a friend and helper with the Father, Jesus Christ, the upright one:
1st-John 2:2and He is an atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.and *he* is the propitiation for our sins; but not for ours alone, but also for the whole world. He is the offering for our sins; and not for ours only, but for all the world.
1st-John 2:3And by this we may know that we know Him if we obey His commands. And hereby we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. And by this we may be certain that we have knowledge of him, if we keep his laws.
1st-John 2:4He who professes to know Him, and yet does not obey His commands, is a liar, and the truth has no place in his heart. He that says, I know him, and does not keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;The man who says, I have knowledge of him, and does not keep his laws, is false, and there is nothing true in him:
1st-John 2:5But whoever obeys His Message, in him love for God has in very deed reached perfection. By this we can know that we are in Him.but whoever keeps his word, in him verily the love of God is perfected. Hereby we know that we are in him.But in every man who keeps his word, the love of God is made complete. By this we may be certain that we are in him:
1st-John 2:6The man who professes to be continuing in Him is himself also bound to live as He lived. He that says he abides in him ought, even as *he* walked, himself also [so] to walk.He who says that he is living in him, will do as he did.
1st-John 2:7My dearly-loved friends, it is no new command that I am now giving you, but an old command which you have had from the very beginning. By the old command I mean the teaching which you have already received.Beloved, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment, which ye have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye heard. My loved ones, I do not give you a new law, but an old law which you had from the first; this old law is the word which came to your ears.
1st-John 2:8And yet I *am* giving you a new command, for such it really is, so far as both He and you are concerned: because the darkness is now passing away and the light, the true light, is already beginning to shine.Again, I write a new commandment to you, which thing is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light already shines.Again, I give you a new law, which is true in him and in you; for the night is near its end and the true light is even now shining out.
1st-John 2:9Any one who professes to be in the light and yet hates his brother man is still in darkness. He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in the darkness until now.He who says that he is in the light, and has hate in his heart for his brother, is still in the dark.
1st-John 2:10He who loves his brother man continues in the light, and his life puts no stumbling-block in the way of others. He that loves his brother abides in light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him.He who has love for his brother is in the light, and there is no cause of error in him.
1st-John 2:11But he who hates his brother man is in darkness and is walking in darkness; and he does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes. But he that hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and knows not where he goes, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. But he who has hate for his brother is in the dark, walking in the dark with no knowledge of where he is going, unable to see because of the dark.
1st-John 2:12I am writing to you, dear children, because for His sake your sins are forgiven you.I write to you, children, because [your] sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.I am writing to you, my children, because you have forgiveness of sins through his name.
1st-John 2:13I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has existed from the very beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the Evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father.I write to you, fathers, because ye have known him [that is] from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked [one]. I write to you, little children, because ye have known the Father.I am writing to you, fathers, because you have knowledge of him who was from the first. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the Evil One. I have sent a letter to you, children, because you have knowledge of the Father.
1st-John 2:14I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has existed from the very beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong and God's Message still has a place in your hearts, and you have overcome the Evil one.I have written to you, fathers, because ye have known him [that is] from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and ye have overcome the wicked [one].I have sent a letter to you, fathers, because you have knowledge of him who was from the first. I have sent a letter to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God is in you, and because you have overcome the Evil One.
1st-John 2:15Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If any one loves the world, there is no love in his heart for the Father.Love not the world, nor the things in the world. If any one love the world, the love of the Father is not in him;Have no love for the world or for the things which are in the world. If any man has love for the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1st-John 2:16For the things in the world the cravings of the earthly nature, the cravings of the eyes, the show and pride of life they all come, not from the Father, but from the world.because all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.Because everything in the world, the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but of the world.
1st-John 2:17And the world, with its cravings, is passing away, but he who does God's will continues for ever. And the world is passing, and its lust, but he that does the will of God abides for eternity. And the world and its desires is coming to an end: but he who does God's pleasure is living for ever.
1st-John 2:18Dear children, the last hour has come; and as you once heard that there was to be an anti-Christ, so even now many anti-Christs have appeared. By this we may know that the last hour has come.Little children, it is [the] last hour, and, according as ye have heard that antichrist comes, even now there have come many antichrists, whence we know that it is [the] last hour.Little children, it is the last hour; and as you were given word that the Antichrist would come, so now a number of Antichrists have come to you; and by this we are certain that it is the last hour.
1st-John 2:19They have gone forth from our midst, but they did not really belong to us; for had they belonged to us, they would have remained with us. But they left us that it might be manifest that professed believers do not all belong to us.They went out from among us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have surely remained with us, but that they might be made manifest that none are of us.They went out from us but they were not of us; if they had been of us they would still be with us: but they went out from us so that it might be made clear that they were not of us.
1st-John 2:20As for you, you have an anointing from the holy One and have perfect knowledge. And *ye* have [the] unction from the holy [one], and ye know all things. And you have the Spirit from the Holy One and you all have knowledge.
1st-John 2:21I have written to you, not because you are ignorant of the truth, but because you know it, and you know that nothing false comes from the truth.I have not written to you because ye do not know the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.I have not sent you this letter because you have no knowledge of what is true, but because you have knowledge, and because that which is false has nothing in common with that which is true.
1st-John 2:22Who is a liar compared with him who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He who disowns the Father and the Son is the anti-Christ.Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? *He* is the antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.Who is false but he who says that Jesus is not the Christ? He is the Antichrist who has no belief in the Father or the Son.
1st-John 2:23No one who disowns the Son has the Father. He who acknowledges the Son has also the Father.Whoever denies the Son has not the Father either; he who confesses the Son has the Father also.He who has no belief in the Son has not the Father: he who makes clear his belief in the Son has the Father.
1st-John 2:24As for you, let the teaching which you have received from the very beginning continue in your hearts. If that teaching does continue in your hearts, you also will continue to be in union with the Son and with the Father. As for *you* let that which ye have heard from the beginning abide in you: if what ye have heard from the beginning abides in you, *ye* also shall abide in the Son and in the Father. But as for you, keep in your hearts the things which were made clear to you from the first. If you keep these things in your hearts you will be kept in the Father and the Son.
1st-John 2:25And this is the promise which He Himself has given us the Life of the Ages. And this is the promise which *he* has promised us, life eternal. And this is the hope which he gave you, even eternal life.
1st-John 2:26I have thus written to you concerning those who are leading you astray. These things have I written to you concerning those who lead you astray:I am writing these things to you about those whose purpose is that you may be turned out of the true way.
1st-John 2:27And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him remains within you, and there is no need for any one to teach you. But since His anointing gives you instruction in all things and is true and is no falsehood you are continuing in union with Him even as it has taught you to do.and *yourselves*, the unction which ye have received from him abides in you, and ye have not need that any one should teach you; but as the same unction teaches you as to all things, and is true and is not a lie, and even as it has taught you, ye shall abide in him.As for you, the Spirit which he gave you is still in you, and you have no need of any teacher; but as his Spirit gives you teaching about all things, and is true and not false, so keep your hearts in him, through the teaching which he has given you.
1st-John 2:28And now, dear children, continue in union with Him; so that, if He re-appears, we may have perfect confidence, and may not shrink away in shame from His presence at His Coming. And now, children, abide in him, that if he be manifested we may have boldness, and not be put to shame from before him at his coming. And now, my children, keep your hearts in him; so that at his revelation, we may have no fear or shame before him at his coming.
1st-John 2:29Since you know that He is righteous, be assured also that the man who habitually acts righteously is a child of His.If ye know that he is righteous, know that every one who practises righteousness is begotten of him.If you have knowledge that he is upright, it is clear to you that everyone who does righteousness is his offspring.
