Acts 9:1Now Saul, whose every breath was a threat of destruction for the disciples of the Lord,But Saul, still breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, came to the high priestBut Saul, still burning with desire to put to death the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,
Acts 9:2went to the High Priest and begged from him letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, in order that if he found any believers there, either men or women, he might bring them in chains to Jerusalem.and asked of him letters to Damascus, to the synagogues, so that if he found any who were of the way, both men and women, he might bring [them] bound to Jerusalem.And made a request for letters from him to the Synagogues of Damascus, so that if there were any of the Way there, men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.
Acts 9:3But on the journey, as he was getting near Damascus, suddenly there flashed round him a light from Heaven;But as he was journeying, it came to pass that he drew near to Damascus; and suddenly there shone round about him a light out of heaven,And while he was journeying, he came near Damascus; and suddenly he saw a light from heaven shining round him;
Acts 9:4and falling to the ground he heard a voice which said to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?"and falling on the earth he heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why dost thou persecute me?And he went down on the earth, and a voice said to him, Saul, Saul, why are you attacking me so cruelly?
Acts 9:5"Who art thou, Lord?" he asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," was the reply.And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And he [said], *I* am Jesus, whom *thou* persecutest.And he said, Who are you, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus, whom you are attacking:
Acts 9:6"But rise and go to the city, and you will be told what you are to do.But rise up and enter into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.But get up, and go into the town, and it will be made clear to you what you have to do.
Acts 9:7Meanwhile the men who travelled with Saul were standing dumb with amazement, hearing a sound, but seeing no one.But the men who were travelling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but beholding no one.And the men who were with him were not able to say anything; hearing the voice, but seeing no one.
Acts 9:8Then he rose from the ground, but when he had opened his eyes, he could not see, and they led him by the arm and brought him to Damascus.And Saul rose up from the earth, and his eyes being opened he saw no one. But leading [him] by the hand they brought him into Damascus.And Saul got up from the earth, and when his eyes were open, he saw nothing; and he was guided by the hand into Damascus.
Acts 9:9And for two days he remained without sight, and did not eat or drink anything.And he was three days without seeing, and neither ate nor drank.And for three days he was not able to see, and he took no food or drink.
Acts 9:10Now in Damascus there was a disciple of the name of Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, saying, "Ananias!" "I am here, Lord," he answered.And there was a certain disciple in Damascus by name Ananias. And the Lord said to him in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, [here am] I, Lord.Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and the Lord said to him in a vision, Ananias! and he said, Here I am, Lord.
Acts 9:11"Rise," said the Lord, "and go to Straight Street, and inquire at the house of Judas for a man called Saul, from Tarsus, for he is actually praying.And the Lord [said] to him, Rise up and go into the street which is called Straight, and seek in the house of Judas one by name Saul, [he is] of Tarsus: for, behold, he is praying,And the Lord said to him, Get up, and go to the street which is named Straight, and make search at the house of Judas for one named Saul of Tarsus: for he is at prayer;
Acts 9:12He has seen a man called Ananias come and lay his hands upon him so that he may recover his sight."and has seen [in a vision] a man by name Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he should see.And he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hands on him, so that he may be able to see.
Acts 9:13"Lord," answered Ananias, "I have heard about that man from many, and I have heard of the great mischief he has done to Thy people in Jerusalem;And Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many concerning this man how much evil he has done to thy saints at Jerusalem;But Ananias said, Lord, I have had accounts of this man from a number of people, how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem:
Acts 9:14and here he is authorized by the High Priests to arrest all who call upon Thy name."and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call upon thy name.And here he has authority from the chief priests to make prisoners all who give worship to your name.
Acts 9:15"Go," replied the Lord; "he is a chosen instrument of Mine to carry My name to the Gentiles and to kings and to the descendants of Israel.And the Lord said to him, Go, for this [man] is an elect vessel to me, to bear my name before both nations and kings and [the] sons of Israel:But the Lord said, Go without fear: for he is a special vessel for me, to give to the Gentiles and kings and to the children of Israel the knowledge of my name:
Acts 9:16For I will let him know the great sufferings which he must pass through for My sake."for *I* will shew to him how much he must suffer for my name.For I will make clear to him what troubles he will have to undergo for me.
Acts 9:17So Ananias went and entered the house; and, laying his two hands upon Saul, said, "Saul, brother, the Lord even Jesus who appeared to you on your journey has sent me, that you may recover your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."And Ananias went and entered into the house; and laying his hands upon him he said, Saul, brother, the Lord has sent me, Jesus that appeared to thee in the way in which thou camest, that thou mightest see, and be filled with [the] Holy Spirit.And Ananias went out and came to the house, and putting his hands on him, said, Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, whom you saw when you were on your journey, has sent me, so that you may be able to see, and be full of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 9:18Instantly there dropped from his eyes what seemed to be scales, and he could see once more. Upon this he rose and received baptism;And straightway there fell from his eyes as it were scales, and he saw, and rising up was baptised;And straight away it seemed as if a veil was taken from his eyes, and he was able to see; and he got up, and had baptism;
Acts 9:19after which he took food and regained his strength. Then he remained some little time with the disciples in Damascus.and, having received food, got strength. And he was with the disciples who [were] in Damascus certain days.And when he had taken food his strength came back. And for some days he kept with the disciples who were in Damascus.
Acts 9:20And in the synagogues he began at once to proclaim Jesus as the Son of God;And straightway in the synagogues he preached Jesus that *he* is the Son of God.And straight away, in the Synagogues, he was preaching Jesus as the Son of God.
Acts 9:21and his hearers were all amazed, and began to ask one another, "Is not this the man who in Jerusalem tried to exterminate those who called upon that Name, and came here on purpose to carry them off in chains to the High Priests?"And all who heard were astonished and said, Is not this *he* who destroyed in Jerusalem those who called on this name, and here was come for this purpose, that he might bring them bound to the chief priests?And all those hearing him were full of wonder and said, Is not this the man who in Jerusalem was attacking all the worshippers of this name? and he had come here so that he might take them as prisoners before the chief priests.
Acts 9:22Saul, however, gained more and more influence, and as for the Jews living in Damascus, he bewildered them with his proofs that Jesus is the Christ.But Saul increased the more in power, and confounded the Jews who dwelt in Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.But Saul went on increasing in power, and the Jews in Damascus were not able to give answers to the arguments by which he made it clear that Jesus was the Christ.
Acts 9:23At length the Jews plotted to kill Saul;Now when many days were fulfilled, the Jews consulted together to kill him.Then, after some days, the Jews made an agreement together to put him to death:
Acts 9:24but information of their intention was given to him. They even watched the gates, day and night, in order to murder him;But their plot became known to Saul. And they watched also the gates both day and night, that they might kill him;But Saul got knowledge of their design. And they kept watch day and night on the roads out of the town, so that they might put him to death:
Acts 9:25but his disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a hamper.but the disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a basket.But his disciples took him by night and let him down from the wall in a basket.
Acts 9:26So he came to Jerusalem and made several attempts to associate with the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, being in doubt as to whether he himself was a disciple.And having arrived at Jerusalem he essayed to join himself to the disciples, and all were afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.And when he came to Jerusalem, he made an attempt to be joined to the disciples, but they were all in fear of him, not taking him for a disciple.
Acts 9:27Barnabas, however, came to his assistance. He brought Saul to the Apostles, and related to them how, on his journey, he had seen the Lord, and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had fearlessly taught in the name of Jesus.But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles, and related to them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had spoken boldly in the name of Jesus.But Barnabas took him to the Apostles and gave them an account of how he had seen the Lord on the road, and had given hearing to his words, and how at Damascus he had been preaching in the name of Jesus without fear.
Acts 9:28Henceforth Saul was one of them, going in and out of the city,And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem,And he was with them, going in and out at Jerusalem,
Acts 9:29and speaking fearlessly in the name of the Lord. And he often talked with the Hellenists and had discussions with them.and speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. And he spoke and discussed with the Hellenists; but they sought to kill him.Preaching in the name of the Lord without fear; and he had discussions with the Greek Jews; but they were working for his death.
Acts 9:30But they kept trying to take his life. On learning this, the brethren brought him down to Caesarea, and then sent him by sea to Tarsus.And the brethren knowing it, brought him down to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus.And when the brothers had knowledge of it, they took him to Caesarea and sent him to Tarsus.
Acts 9:31The Church, however, throughout the whole of Judaea, Galilee and Samaria, had peace and was spiritually built up; and grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord and receiving encouragement from the Holy Spirit.The assemblies then throughout the whole of Judaea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, being edified and walking in the fear of the Lord, and were increased through the comfort of the Holy Spirit.And so the church through all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was made strong; and, living in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, was increased greatly.
Acts 9:32Now Peter, as he went to town after town, came down also to God's people at Lud.Now it came to pass that Peter, passing through all [quarters], descended also to the saints who inhabited Lydda.And it came about that while Peter was going through all parts of the country he came to the saints who were living at Lydda.
Acts 9:33There he found a man of the name of Aeneas, who for eight years had kept his bed, through being paralysed.And he found there a certain man, Aeneas by name, who had been lying for eight years upon a couch, who was paralysed.And there was a certain man there, named Aeneas, who for eight years had been in bed, without power of moving.
Acts 9:34Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus Christ cures you. Rise and make your own bed." He at once rose to his feet.And Peter said to him, Aeneas, Jesus, the Christ, heals thee: rise up, and make thy couch for thyself. And straightway he rose up.And Peter said to him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ makes you well: get up and make your bed. And straight away he got up.
Acts 9:35And all the people of Lud and Sharon saw him; and they turned to the Lord.And all who inhabited Lydda and the Saron saw him, who turned to the Lord.And all those living in Lydda and Sharon saw him, and were turned to the Lord.
Acts 9:36Among the disciples at Jaffa was a woman called Tabitha, or, as the name may be translated, `Dorcas.' Her life was wholly devoted to the good and charitable actions which she was constantly doing.And in Joppa there was a certain female disciple, by name Tabitha, which being interpreted means Dorcas. She was full of good works and alms-deeds which she did.Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, that is, Dorcas: this woman was given to good works and acts of mercy at all times.
Acts 9:37But, as it happened, just at that time she was taken ill and died. After washing her body they laid it out in a room upstairs.And it came to pass in those days that she grew sick and died; and, having washed her, they put her in [the] upper room.And it came about, in those days, that she got ill and came to her death: and when she had been washed, they put her in a room which was high up.
Acts 9:38Lud, however, being near Jaffa, the disciples, who had heard that Peter was at Lud, sent two men to him with an urgent request that he would come across to them without delay.But Lydda being near to Joppa, the disciples having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, beseeching him, Thou must not delay coming to us.And because Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, having knowledge that Peter was there, sent two men to him, requesting him to come to them straight away.
Acts 9:39So Peter rose and went with them. On his arrival they took him upstairs, and the widow women all came and stood by his side, weeping and showing him the underclothing and cloaks and garments of all kinds which Dorcas used to make while she was still with them.And Peter rising up went with them, whom, when arrived, they brought up into the upper chamber; and all the widows stood by him weeping and shewing him the body-coats and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them.And Peter went with them. And when he had come, they took him into the room: and all the widows were there, weeping and putting before him the coats and clothing which Dorcas had made while she was with them.
Acts 9:40Peter, however, putting every one out of the room, knelt down and prayed, and then turning to the body, he said, "Tabitha, rise." Dorcas at once opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, sat up.But Peter, putting them all out, and kneeling down, prayed. And, turning to the body, he said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes, and, seeing Peter, sat up.But Peter made them all go outside, and went down on his knees in prayer; and turning to the body, he said, Tabitha, get up. And, opening her eyes, she saw Peter and got up.
Acts 9:41Then, giving her his hand, he raised her to her feet and, calling to him God's people and the widows, he gave her back to them alive.And having given her [his] hand, he raised her up, and having called the saints and the widows, presented her living.And he took her hand, lifting her up; and, sending for the saints and widows, he gave her to them, living.
Acts 9:42This incident became known throughout Jaffa, and many believed in the Lord;And it became known throughout the whole of Joppa, and many believed on the Lord.And news of it went all through Joppa, and a number of people had faith in the Lord.
Acts 9:43and Peter remained for a considerable time at Jaffa, staying at the house of a man called Simon, a tanner.And it came to pass that he remained many days in Joppa with a certain Simon, a tanner.And he was living in Joppa for some time with Simon, a leather-worker.
